Like alot of calls with CAS, this one was a little vague. There seems to be concern with what has happened recently. Like I said in my other post, they are worried that the damage is already done. This tells me that there must of been some high rollers cancel or threaten to cancel. Not only do these guys gamble alot, they spend alot of money onboard. Perks mean alot to gamblers. We expect to be taken care of, and appreciate everything we get. B&L at Cagneys is big. 2 or 3 specialty dinners with bottles of wine during the week, an excursion, the concierge stopping by my aft balcony room, etc are all appreciated. All these things added up together would be less than 3 or 4 hundred dollars, but its the idea that NCL is showing appreciation back. My gut is that the $99 vip package will be given back to the Golden and VIP CAS players without anyone ever knowing.

Thank you for sharing. I am under 1000 points from VIP and sent an email to CAS letting them know I would be cancelling my upcoming cruises. I hope you are correct and they add back in the perks we had.

I haven't had this much fun watching a squabble since CCL introduced FTTF. Of course that was sharing a "free perk"( no cost to the line) like most CCL loyalty program perks. (Casino perks deliberately omitted here - premier cruises are terrific.)

Looks like there is at least one SC - 11030 and maybe a cat SE open on your sailing.

Yes, I see that a SC opened up - but at $8,099 pp it's not in the cards I'm afraid. Prices on this sailing have more than doubled since we booked, and it wasn't cheap even back then.

No, we've been in a mini before and we'll struggle through . I was just reacting to the sudden letdown from the suddenly raised hopes. And I sincerely believe that if NCL spent the time and effort to think this out and announce it, they should at least give it a trial. I don't know how the marketing folks involved keep their head in the game when their efforts are summarily axed at roll-out. Doesn't bode well for future effort.

I'm just curious as to if the majority really wanted it cancelled or not. So I created a poll. Go vote on the poll so we can see actual numbers. Just curious.

No need for discussion on the poll thread as there is plenty on this 25+ page thread. Lol.

I don't think the CC base is an accurate representation of cruisers - considering how many suites are on a ship compared to the number of total cabins, and how many people here talk about booking suites, I think CC has a skew towards the higher-end rooms. But it can't hurt to be curious and have your poll :)

Sorry that I just spent 30 minutes catching up on this thread, only to find out that the program has been suspended.

Although I'm sure a lot of discussion went into the creation of the program, like a lot of things that NCL does, it's likely that they never considered the practical application of the program and what would really occur when implemented. There are many situations where there seems to be a serious disconnect between what happens, is decided or communicated on the corporate level and the actual situation on-board.

I partially agree with you, but think that most of here are either big fans of cruising, loyal NCL cruisers, or people who book higher end rooms.

Well said. I wonder how the crew members especially those who work at Cagney's felt about this.

While I was initially upset over this new program (although after posting in another similar thread, I was pretty resoundingly trashed so opted not to comment on this one), so many on here made rather convincing arguments that in the end changed my perception of it. However, I am amazed at the back-tracking by NCL. Whatever the differences of opinion on here, what this has shown is that Cruise Critic is a force to be reckoned with in the cruising industry. NCL evidently very much listens to its loyal customers and has shown concern in keeping us happy. And although I was happy with NCL overall as a cruiseline before, now I will say my respect for them as a corporation interested in their passengers has certainly gone up as well.

Cudos to NCL for listening and making the changes (of course we'll have to wait and see what happens with CAS).

My experience has been quite different. I have been involved in many roll calls where people have stated their cabin numbers or we have done cabin crawls and the number of high end cabins has been minimal in comparison to the numbers of people on the roll call. Perhaps those who book suites are just more vocal in regards to cabins. A lot of that seems to be in understanding and sharing information about the amenities and perks that come with those bookings. Rarely will you see a post asking about the little extras that come along with an inside or oceanview cabin.

My guess is this.... They cancelled the VIP upgrade due to the fact that they are going yo do something with the CAS program. I think they ran together. Cancel the CAS perks and there is more space in Cagneys. Fill that space with the VIP program and make extra money.

But it was a bad financial decision to change the CAS program. They have realized that and had to cancel the VIP program to ensure there is room for CAS.

i sail suite and i acutlaly wanted it

it's a numbers game for me

half the price even if i were to book 2 balcony rooms for 90% of the service. i'd do it in a heart beat. sure i might have to rush to get the 99$upgrade passes, but whatever, not l ike it'd ruin my cruise if it wasn't available.

i'd still get 2 cruises at half the cost.

Another reason it was cancelled.

I'll be honest. I am thrilled It was cancelled. Let's be honest...those of us that sail in suites (The Haven especially) do so to escape the masses. The perks make it all the more doable and enjoyable to do so. If you want those added perks, pay to sail in a suite, or cruise until you reach platinum (or cruise with cas benefits)

Maybe most people in high-end cabins don't subscribe to roll calls.

I am one who would have never even known about all the Haven perks if it wasn't for CC. That is why I booked my last Haven suite on my last cruise. (And for my next one). So many people I have spoken to who have cruised, even NCL, don't know about the Haven, and all the perks.

Perhaps that is true. I still maintain though that Cruise Critic membership does not skew towards high cabin categories. I believe there is an accurate representation of cruisers here on CC and that they are folks who book various different categories, including inside, oceanview and regular balcony cabins. Most just don't post about it, nor will the topic of this thread have any interest to them, so you won't be hearing from that portion of the cruise critic population.

Suite cruisers can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Quite the contrary, I was looking forward to saving a HUGE amount of money by booking a balcony on my next trip!

Cagney's breakfast/lunch and priority boarding/embark are the main reasons I book a suite on NCL. Would love to have saved the $ and booked a balcony.
