Princess ship bottlenecks

After coming off the Golden last week, I finally had an epiphany on how to get from one end of the ship to the other. :p The worst bottleneck I have seen yet was on Promenade deck at the intersection of the casino/piazza/bar. They put up those sale tables on the deck at the edges of the balcony, and then crowds of people stand in front of the tables, filling the space. Coming out of the casino are people walking to the aft of the ship who meet crowds of people walking to the front of the ship, complicated by scooters, walkers, strollers, etc. all creeping along as if on parade. To add to the fun, the photographers take over the little area in front of the casino, and lines form with people wanting to get their pictures taken right where the scooter parade must pass by. If some entertainment is taking place in the piazza, then the rails are thronged three-deep with people hanging over to watch. It's a nightmare.

However, I realized that instead of going up or down a deck or two, I could swing to the right and go behind the elevators to get into the next bottleneck, the madhouse outside Explorer's, etc. The only problem with my scheme is when the photographers have taken over the area around the elevators, too. One solution might be for people to look around and ask themselves, "Am I blocking traffic?" (I know, that's never going to happen.)

Wow you are bringing back memories. I just go with the flow. It seldom takes me that much longer but I do believe going up 1 or down 1 floor helps depending on what is above or below. I really do dislike the photographers taking up the passage space, especially by the mid ship elevators or whenever they block the Piazza stairs.

The bottlenecks are horrible on the grand class ships. That is one thing I enjoy about the Celebrity Equinox, with the exception of one day near the shops (the BIG sale day) the bottlenecks were nothing nonexistent. No bottlenecks on royal Caribbean either, at least not like on Primcess

Go outside on the Promenade and walk around the mass of people inside...

I've walked outside on the Promenade Deck whenever I really need to get from here to there quickly.... sort of like an "expressway" with the added benefit of fresh air.

Otherwise it's simply "go with the flow" inside... a relaxed pace, with the sounds of entertainment, laughter, and people enjoying themselves.

Hmmm... I guess it's all about the perspective one cares to take.

On the RCCL voyager and freedom class ships the royal promenade can get very crowded with pax at times particularly if they have the sale tables out or some performance going on. There is no alternative on that deck to get around it. The lower deck will take you through the casino and the three decks above the royal promenade will take you through cabin hallways. I have found the Princess ships to be easier to get around when going from bow to stern.

One of my complaints about the RCCL voyager class ships is that on the royal promenade deck where all the shops, guest services, cafe etc are located, there is no window to look out. It could be a huge storm outside and you would not know it. One of my favorite places is the piaza bar where I can sit and watch the world go by with a cold drink and maybe some food from the IC. It is so relaxing.

Totally agree. You might as well not be on a ship at all.

I've never found it a problem, but i'm never in a hurry when I'm on vacation so there's a few people ahead of me, no big deal. I know i'll get there. A traffic jam on a ship with about 3000 guests a few times is to be expected.

Let me know how that works on the Royal and the Regal.
On the Regal you can walk outside at the front elevators/stairs and walk outside almost 750 feet all the way I the aft of the ship. The Royal will eventually have the same modification. The Regal's interior Promenade deck did not feel as crowded as on the Grand class ships. There is a different layout that appears to be an improvement.

If we have to walk from one side of ship to other (Princess theatre to Vista Lounge), we always go up to deck 8 and walk across . No traffic and can walk at our own pace.

Good idea if you're handy to a set of stairs or elevator - especially after a show in the Princess theatre when you live in an aft cabin.
