Boozing

No, but I've seen a few folks that should have a drink or two and unwind a few notches.

This topic has been coming up ever since the drink packages have come out. Just like this thread there have always been mixed answers, I think people see what their biases allow them to see.

Where's the LIKE button LOL :D

just back from our B2B on summit:

week 1 - big single group - lot of booze ....

week 2 - assume UK guys (and girls) drinking very very much...., sleeping on pooldeck in the end - extended the smoking zone close to poolbar at deck 10, smoking cigars at the pool bar at certain times.....

looking back to the last cruise - lot more drunk people seen, may be loctation driven, as the last was Alaska....

"assume" so you don't really know where they were from, nice bit of European stereotyping there my friend.

I've been on two Celeb cruises (3 come February) and never noticed anyone who had really been over served. (Maybe I'm just lucky.) Some people obviously had quite a bit, but if their good time doesn't affect my good time (which it didn't), who cares? Yet on previous Carnival cruises, which didn't have drink packages, I noticed security taking people away who had obviously overindulged. Should we conclude that drink packages make people behave better?

No, I don't think the drink package has made much of a difference.

Where we did notice a heavy drinking difference was during the Elite happy hour, many times there were people weaving to the elevators when happy hour was over - people trying to get as many free drinks in them before going to dinner.

Assume means: I do not know if all out of the big drinking community are out of UK :) - some, I've spoken to are: Dublin, London, Manchester....enough UK my friend ?

So you saw people behaving like they'd had too much to drink. You apparently spoke to SOME of them, and then ASSUMED the rest of the drunks were from the same part of the world? Because.....why? If you didn't speak to the others, what would you base that assumption on, if not stereotyping? Also, just curious...did you seek these people out to talk to them or is just a big coincidence that the ones you happened to chat with were the very same ones who were later sleeping on the pool deck, etc.?

p.s. Dublin is in Ireland, so it's not part of the UK. ;)

I've sailed a lot on both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean and have never noticed trouble or issues from people who have had too much to drink. It has always surprised me as some of the drinks are made with a LOT of spirit in them :)

I have to admit that we are not ones for staying up too late - midnight would be good for us so maybe we miss the 'second half' of the evening when everything kicks off??

I didn't notice any obviously drunk passengers on our past Celebrity cruise but then again, I likely wouldn't care if I did encounter them. No more than I care what people wear to the dining room. My focus is on relaxing and enjoying myself when I'm cruising, not observing other passengers "class", nationality, alcohol consumption or dress. Cheers!

We did the same back to back as you and I am of course a UK girl who was with another UK girl and 2 UK guys :p We spoke to quite a few of the singles group in the first week and they were great. One or two might have had one too many at times but they were just having a good time generally, and if you can't do that when you're on holiday then when can you do it?

In the second week - we ate earlier, drank earlier and probably ended up going to bed earlier on the whole but we did not fall asleep on the pool deck and although we all smoke, I didn't see any smokers going past the designated area with the orange seating  I didn't actually think that there were that many from the UK on the ship in either week, so why you would assume that those who drank too much were all from the UK is beyond me.

Absolutely on our last 14 night Caribbean it was ridiculous. Fighting occurred and on guy kicked off the ship. Another able bodied racing a scooter he "borrowed" around the pool deck.

My response is strictly based on our last three Celebrity cruises that offered the unlimited drink package.

October 2013 - Silhouette 13 night port intensive Adriatic - typical Celebrity demographic who sail longer itineraries - no noticeable difference in passenger behavior as a result of over drinking.

March 2014 - Silhouette 7 night Eastern Caribbean- much younger demographic and a lot more singles than we've experienced on our annual winter cruises - drinking on sea days out of control on pool deck causing us to avoid the area.

September 2104 - Infinity 12 night France, Spain, Portugal - typical Celebrity demographic who sail longer itineraries - no noticeable difference in passenger behavior as a result of over drinking.

Uh.." You take a cruise (much less a short one) and don't expect spring break to break out. I would suggest better research on your part.

That and I'm not from Ireland (UK? :) )

AND I've been known to indulge too much and my college days are 40 years ago. My wife is still lovely.

Over the last 2 years we've noticed a significant uptick in people who have obviously been overserved.

An excerpt from our letter to Celebrity after our January 2014 Eclipse cruise is provided:

We were at the Sunset Bar one evening enjoying the ambiance of the location, sharing with new friends our days adventures when it became impossible not to notice the behaviour of 2 young ladies (for lack of a better description), and their gentleman escort. Their voices were way too loud, their language profane, their behaviour vulgar. It was evident they were drunk to the point of not caring how they impacted others around them. My wife asked the bartender to address the situation, but after he did nothing I had a very brief, very blunt conversation with them, and they left the area. Clearly not only our group were impacted as two couples made a point of thanking me for my intervention. There are two issues relative to this situation, firstly Celebrity must provide adequate supervision to make sure guests are not impaired. This is a safety issue for all of us. Having people not in control of themselves on a ship increases the risk for all of us. Secondly, other guests such as myself should never ever have to be faced with dealing with this type of behaviour. If Celebrity is going to allow people to drink to the point of impairment, conduct themselves with no respect for others, then Celebrity needs to manage the consequences. In short, we bought and paid for a Celebrity cruise experience, if we wanted a Carnival experience, we would have bought a Carnival cruise.

Celebrities response was to agree this shouldn't happen, apologize profusely, but would make no commitments that it wouldn't happen again.

No commitments it wouldn't happen again????? Surely you didn't expect that did you? There is no way X could EVER commit to that you will never see an inebriated pax again......

With all due respect, better research is not necessary. We have taken a 7 day Celebrity Caribbean cruise every March for the last 10 years and have never experienced a "spring break" demographic until this past March. The complimentary drink package apparently enticed those who don't normally sail Celebrity to switch allegiance.
