Colo Cruiser Posted April 26, 2015 #326 Share Posted April 26, 2015 The penthouse suite would tend to put a different perspective to things!:D I look at it as "you can't see the forest for the trees". :p
FawnRiver Posted April 26, 2015 #327 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I know I'm in the minority here But ships have to stay modern. This design is just keeping pace with most new ships with the aft room design. And of course there's the fact that I got the new Penthouse suite on Lido for my upcoming Med cruise;) with the full wrap around balcony! I agree with you, Princess has to maximize profitability. But my bias comes from being a Carnival shareholder :)

Will be interested to hear if Teen and Youth Centers on decks 12 & 14 have an adverse effect on new aft suites since they are so close. Am considering one for a future Alaskan Land & Sea cruise. caribill Posted April 30, 2015 #329 Share Posted April 30, 2015 That's true. In this case, they said they were getting their information from the shipbuilder's website: "From the Fincanteiri site, italian translations confirm International Cafe will be added, Horizon Court restructured, Universe Lounge remodeled, Casino remodeled, and up to 200 cabins added (likely some in the place of the Universe Lounge)" Jim The revised Island deck plans on the Princess web site do not show an IC. I tend to believe the Princess web site over the Fincanteiri one.
caribill Posted April 30, 2015 #330 Share Posted April 30, 2015 I don't think there will be a zillion more passengers Not a zillion more, but a couple of hundred more in less public space and with the same size dining rooms.

Cruzin-K Posted May 12, 2015 #332 Share Posted May 12, 2015 I really wish someone would post more photos. I can't wait to see what the aft looks like when this is all done, especially the balcony cabins on Baja Deck ;)

How would the dry dock affect the cruise? There are only 23 people here on CC that talk about it. The general population don't attend CC and probably know nothing about any changes. I wondered the same thing...despite being discussed regularly on CC many are not aware of the changes and probably many other passengers, travel agents and Princess reservation agents are unaware of the changes. Only time will tell if the changes will affect sales but the deck plans show me that it will be a different ship than I've enjoyed so much. If the itinerary & price are good then maybe but it wouldn't be my first choice.

And a good percentage of passengers will be taking a cruise on the Island for the first time and thus will never know what used to be there. Cruzin-K Posted May 14, 2015 #340 Share Posted May 14, 2015 I found this Photo on instagram.. Hope this link works https://instagram.com/p/2lsPpdkgBl/ Oh Wow! If those are the four balconies on Baja Deck, they look like the balcony will be in a box. Odd! I guess the view will still be great off the back, but it just looks weird :(
Kineticoh20 Posted May 14, 2015 #341 Share Posted May 14, 2015 Still looks like quite a bit of work with not much time left. I sure hope they finish in time for the May trip:eek:

Let's hope she gets finished on-time. ;)

dmwnc1959 Posted May 14, 2015 #344 Share Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) I have not seen that on Princess. If the work is not complete, they continue the work during the cruise(s) after drydock. When was the last time Princess Cruises had this much work done on a ship; one that involved adding 110 new staterooms, significantly altering the aft superstructure, closing off and repurposing several major public spaces and venues, and changing so much to an already existing ship? And it's not just Princess Cruises: if I'm not mistaken it was this exact same shipyard, sitting in that exact same drydock, in which the conversion/refit of Carnival Destiny happened. That ship was three weeks late in being finished - resulting in the cancellation of what were suppose to be her first two cruises post-drydock - albeit her refit and conversion were a little more extensive, but they had already allotted two full months for her completion. If Fincantieri isn't done, there's not much Princess Cruises can do but cancel cruises and fine the shipyard. Edited May 14, 2015 by dmwnc1959
CruisingCoral Posted May 14, 2015 #345 Share Posted May 14, 2015 I find it so odd that Princess hasn't posted any updates on the dry dock. Almost as if they're hiding something. Lol

Lol No more odd than promoting the changes to the Island & then after the changes were questioned they stopped "promoting" them. ;) Guess they realized there was no reason to "promote" changes resulting in a less desirable ship except for a few passengers in the new cabins? dmwnc1959 Posted May 14, 2015 #349 Share Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Thank God I'm on the third cruise post dry dock;) Lucky you. Despite (because of?) all of the commentary I've read from passengers booked on the last cruise pre-drydock and the first cruises post-drydock, I'd never intentionally book those cruises, especially if it involved international air travel. This is a huge undertaking, much grander and significantly more complicated than what was done to Grand Princess where her 'handlebar' was surgically removed and she had a few spaces enhanced or added. Time will tell; as mentioned before, we don't know when that picture was taken, but we do know she has just one week remaining, including a post-refit sea trial. And I had asked this before, and no one seemed to know, but with this significant build-up and added weight to her stern, will she be getting a ducktail? Edited May 14, 2015 by dmwnc1959
dmwnc1959 Posted May 14, 2015 #350 Share Posted May 14, 2015 On a side note, and as noted in another thread, it looks like the funnel casing has been reconfigured eliminating those fake jet engine looking thingys. This screen grab taken about 15 minutes ago (I think there's smoke coming from the funnel):
