How long before Carnival goes to the wrist bands

I think it would be great if they offered it as an option, I would pay a couple bucks for it...easier than digging the card out every time as I don't wear mine on a lanyard. I've seen too many cards blow out of those in the wind on deck.

Same here....it if was an option (which I think it should be with the cards) I would definitely use it. I wear a Fitbit everyday so I'm accustomed to it and I'm not a lanyard user either.

The wristbands may provide a fractional benefit to guests, but the real benefit is in the data gathered by the company. That data is pure gold. It tracks movements, congestion in venues, etc. So I say in 3 to 5 years you'll see wristbands on Carnival.

I believe you misunderstand the technology, a wristband by itself does not do any of these functions (i.e tracking passengers).

 

What you are describing can be accomplished RFID technology, BUT RFID technology just as easily be incorporated in a "sail and sign" card and negates this argument for wristbands.

Yes, but cards with RFID technology incoporated remind people of credit cards (bills that you'll have to pay); a quick flick of the wrist (band) and many don't think about the cost - it's not money or a credit card - it's a wristband!

 

The other benefit is generally everyone will wear their own wristband (with a few exceptions) but in many families, one person is carrying all of the cards.

 

Kids will wear their own wristbands - and so could be tracked how much time in and out of Camp Carnival - how much time in shops, etc. They'll incorporate the check in / check out for camp into the wrist band (as they are currently doing on DCL) and the muster station stuff.

Does anyone think carnival will go to the wristbands like Disneyworld? I think the disney ships are making the move as well as RCCL. If you dont know what I'm talking about basically its a band that opens your door has all your info so you can make purchases it very convenient and less likely to be lost then the current SS card. What do you guys think.

The S&S cards make nice little cruise souvenirs for those of us that collect them. I hope Carnival doesn't switch to wristbands. I like having the card, so I say "No thank-you" to wrist bands.

 

 

I agree I like the card, I save them or put them in a scrapbook when I get home.

Yes they are rubber with an RFID tag and completely removable and adjustable.

Those type of wrist bands the kids would not mind at all. They hate wearing the regular ones at night and in the water.

Wouldn't that negate the use of the SS card to power the lights? Arent they "inserted" now?

I was thinking the same thing, except you can fold up some paper and it will also keep the lights on.

Magic, Breeze, Vista and possibly Sunshine. I believe this may have also found its way to other subsidiaries of Carnival Corporation.

I will say that when my family went to Disney the bands where very convenient but I can't see Carnival doing it. I would enjoy the wristbands onboard though.

I must say that I was not impressed with the overall Disney Cruise experience but the wrist bands were REALLY great. And I am not one to accessorize with items other than jewelry (ie I do not wear my card around my neck and take it off on formal night).

 

The kids could easily unlock the door, you checked in/out of kids clubs with a match up of the parents band, charge privileges. I works REALLY well.

The biggest issue with using the bands as ship's ID comes in with the fact that the ports do not (or will not install) the technology necessary to use them to allow people to access the normally secure port areas to get back to the ship. A card will still be necessary, since is shows the passenger name, ship, and dates of travel. Wristbands do not show this information, as it's imbedded in a chip that must be scanned.

 

I doubt that getting all ports to install the necessary equipment (the SAME equipment world-wide) really isn't feasible.

I disagree. Everyone had bands. And we checked on/off the ship just like a sign and sail card. It was just MUCH easier.

Maybe it was a test? We were just on the Dream & Fantasy the past September (3 cruises total) and on none of the cruises were there bands for anyone other than the kids clubs ones.

I'm okay with and prefer it to the bar staff writing down numbers if it's scannable. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten someone else's s&s number and I have to correct them. I'm not sure there are others that are as honest. With what we spend I can't tell if every charge on my s&s charge is mine because we lose bar receipts or they get wet
