The Entertainment Director (Leon de ste Croix) called the seas "frolicsome". There is definitely some movement but not nearly as bad as last year.

We had our first meet and greet today at noon in the Yacht Club. There were about 20-25 present but the layout of the Yacht Club was not really as conducive to meeting people as iin the Commodore Club. The time was also changed from what was originally planned (don't know if anyone missed it because of this).

Not to waste any time, Gavin, the port presenter, is giving the presentation on New York tomorrow. I understand that the tour I want is waitlisted but I will go speak with them tomorrow.

Hi Scrapnana. Thanks for your posts.

What tour were you hoping to book? If I'm reading the itinerary correctly, you are due to dock in NYC on Sunday, Jan. 18. Expect the City to have the usual holiday crowds for the three day weekend (many schools and businesses will be closed on Jan.19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day - a Federal Holiday). But no doubt Gavin mentioned that in his port lecture.

Anyway, if you can't book the tour you wanted, just ask here for suggestions as I'm sure there are New Yorkers who could offer alternatives based on your interests.

Meanwhile...looking forward to reading your posts, and best wishes for a pleasant voyage. -S.

On the noon announcement the captain said we had 40 knot gale force winds. The temperature was 13C/55F. Winds should decrease to 30-35 tomorrow and the temperature will increase to 14-15C/58/59F. We are heading south to just north of the Azores and will then turn west. Captain Clark promises smoother seas within a couple of days.

There are a number of people who are queasy. I try to refrain from telling them it is not as rough as last year.

I have found deck 8 (I am below the Pavilion Pool area) to have more creaks and groans than on deck 7. I have also heard heavy footsteps (not sure why as there cannot be many people out on deck - maybe they were moving deck furniture).

First Captain's Cocktail Party and formal night tonight.

Thanks, Salacia, for your suggestion.

HI Kathi,

I hope you have a great cruise. I wish I was on it with you. Say hi to Maggie for me.

I am enjoying reading your blog. Is there much difference from last year?

Again have a great time.

Except for a few structural changes (the canopy by the Lido Pool, a couple of tables taken from the Lido, the space taken from the Casino (chairs and tables directly under the staircase by the forward lifts are gone and machines are there), and the shift in the stores (the bookstore - my favorite shop - is even smaller and now on deck 3), she is still the same. The step on the starboard side of the theatre still creaks if you step on it wrong.

They do bring coffee/tea to your table in the Lido. They have moved the soft serve ice cream machines and (as far as I can tell) there is no ice machine in the Lido any more.

Kathi - - Have they changed from using trays in the Lido buffet to large plates?

Enjoying your blog and posts on here.

Still trays in the Lido!

Thanks to you both for reading my blog!

Dress Code Update --- Tonight was our first formal night. I saw three people not dressed for that. One was sitting in the starboard section of the Queens Grill in a sweater (no tie or Jacket) and there was a couple in the theatre for the show in khakis and plaid shirts, I did sit and watch people as they were walking from dinner and at the dancing in the Queens Room. So the dress code is still intact but the number of formal nights is decreasing. The 2013 World Voyage had about 50, we had about 35 last year, and this year's World Voyage only has about 28.

We discussed this at dinner and we all agreed the formal nights/dress code were important in our continuing to book with Cunard. This sets Cunard apart from other lines.

The Ice machines are either side of The Lido at the back where Tea/Coffee making facilities are.

Ice Cream machines are situated in the rear sections just before the mid section of the Lido

Hi Kathi, sorry I did not do such a great job at the M&G. I am still feeling the movement and have been in our room much of the time. I could not hear the Captains noon announcement yesterday so am glad you explained it here. I will keep my fingers crossed for calmer seas (I know they have not been too much, but for some reason, I am feeling it more this year).

I saw the ice cream machine on my one out of room experience yesterday; it was near the yogurt and porridge area. I thought at the time that that was a strange place for it.

Been to the laundrette this morning and no problems there. 3 washers and 3 dryers and no arguments or fights. Just noticed in todays programme that they have erroneously listed another CC M&G. I hope others realize the error as it is not listed on our schedule. Next one is scheduled for 23 January the sea day after Nassau.

Early this morning was calmer, but now the wind and waves have picked up a tad.

Captain gave an announcement earlier praising the crew for all their hard work since embarkation. Great work!

Barbaa,

Glad you are feeling a little better. We have been worried about you!

As to the washers and dryers, there seem to be three of each on some decks and 2 on others. I popped in to see what was on deck 8 today and there are only two. The washers were both empty but I am sending out my wash since I am only on for 11 days.

I am going to look for the ice machine as I was told by someone else today there is stll at least one in the Lido.

Update --

We were about 190 miles north of the Azores today before we turned west to cross the Atlantic. Force 8 (35 knot) winds today with a high of 58F/14.4C. We did have some fairly smooth periods today and they were able to put on the first performance by the Royal Cunard Singers and Dancers. More promises for even calmer weather tomorrow.

I do hope that people will continue to post here when Cunard drags me off kicking and screaming --- errr, I mean when I disembark.

Thanks Kathi...been missing seeing anyone. Doing a bit better although those waves look a bit daunting today. Trying to get out a bit today. Saw people learning some dance steps in the Queens Room, tested the casino (lost using my card and won using hubbys);), checked out the ships store, saw lots of people gathering for lunch in the Golden Lion Pub and caught sight of a few people. Heard Maggie had a party and hope all had a good time. Tonight is another formal and I may be able to test that out...I hope. Have had room service up until today and it has been correct each time with the one exception of the steak---we ordered well done and it came medium; otherwise was pretty good. Visited the purser's desk to check that our OBC was correct and it was!:) They are very professional and helpful too.

I don't believe there is a dentist on board, but I will try and ask.

So if you're on board for the full world cruise what would happen if you had toothache or lost a crown? Can happen.

Cunard (or a port agent) will give you the address of a dentist at the next port. I know!
