Has anyone watched the Superbowl on a Royal Caribbean ship before?

I will be on the February 1st sailing on the Allure of the Seas which embarks on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean on Superbowl Sunday. Has anyone watched the Superbowl on the Allure or a Royal Caribbean ship before? If so, what should I expect? Is it a big Superbowl party?

We were onboard 2-3 years ago and they set up a "tailgate" party in the theater. The game was shown on big screen TV and they served hot dogs, burgers, chips, etc at the back of the theater. Very nice and a lot of fun.

We were on the Serenade last week and all of the bowl games were shown on the big screen at the pool. For the Sugar and Orange Bowl they actually had the sound on (instead of island music) - it was fun and about 80 degrees - even after dark!

I was also on the adventure for the Super Bowl, but three years ago (yay giants!). The one thing that isn't the same - no ads, it was the same three commercials for European ESPN over and over.

Edit: Sorry Maggie didn't see you already said that!

A few years back my hubby watched it in our cabin. No commercials though.

I remember those days. During a football game when they would cut away to commercial, the feed would stay, the camera would scan the seats, and you could hear the announcers go over things concerning the game that they were going to discuss/point out after the break. Unfortunately (for me anyway... I enjoyed that behind the scenes banter), those days are long gone. Royal apparently now uses the same network feed we get when we're watching a game from home.

To answer the previous post... didn't notice the limited number of commercials last time I watched a game onboard this past middle of November. May not have been paying that close attention.

Yes, I was on the Allure last year for Super Bowl Sunday, they televised it on the Aft TV screens, people were out there watching but, there was no organized party to speak of.... It was my birthday so I was more interested in celebrating that! also a lot of people were on their balconies that were over the promenade watching as well.

We were on Oasis in 2010 and they showed the Superbowl at the Aqua Theater at the aft end. It was really great. They set up a couple of bars and decorated in the team colors. Lot's of fun. Nothing like a beer, the Superbowl, and the sunset in the background!

We were on the Serenade many years ago for the Superbowl (Pats won their 1st superbowl on an Adam Vinitari field goal in the final seconds).

The crew seemed surprised by the number of people interested in the game. The sports bar staff was calling and BEGGING for help. But Royal stepped up - by the 2nd quarter they had more staffing and had set up food (hot dogs, nachos) and opened an alternate venue (I think the theater) to help with the crowd.

There were commercials at that time, and depending on what feed they got that was the language the commercials were broadcast in. So we had the normal sportscasters and then Spanish commercials. Trying to figure out what was being advertised was almost as much fun as the game. I've been on several other superbowl cruises on Princess and Carnival - I don't remember if they had commercials or not.

Last year we cruised Superbowl Sunday. The showed the game just about everywhere there was a TV and even set up a TV in the casino. The did offer a football pool in the casino as well. You picked a spot on a board then once they game started they assigned numbers. We watched the game in Studio B on a big screen. On your way in in the On Air area they had buffet tables set up with hot dogs, burgers & nachos and was playing the game in there as well.

We were onboard for the NBA finals one year and for the World Cup last year....different ships, but the ship made it into a party atmosphere. For the NBA finals they had food and snacks -- it was fun. Since I am not a World Cup fan, I did not go into the venue they had it in....but everyone loved it and the mood on the ship was great.

We were on the Freedom several years ago, the year the Patriots were undefeated. We watched in the cabin for awhile and then went to dinner .... since 'of course they would win since they hadn't lost a game all season', right? WRONG! We finished dinner and went to where they were showing it at some lounge, can't remember which to catch the rest of the game when they LOST AT THE VERY END!!! AAARRUUUGGGHHH!!! Couldn't believe it! New York fans were wild! (and some not so very nice, I might add ... 'just sayin' LOL!) Out in the middle of the ocean I swear I could hear my die hard Pats Fan Son in Law screaming from his house in FL!!! One Super Bowl we won't forget! Enjoy and have fun! :)

I remember that game. I was rooting for the Patriots. That was in 2007 and they went 16-0. Being from Michigan, I will always root for Brady (unless they are playing my Lions...lol)! The Pats had a great offensive line that year...Randy Moss and Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk, Laurence Maroney. Not sure if another team will do that again.

Can't wait for Feb 1st!!

LOL!! Big G .... I just wish I had had a video of me with my hands on my head yelling 'NOOOOOOOO!' on that play! Couldn't believe it! Jason 008 .... yes, GO PATS!!! We're originally from the Boston area (South Shore actually) but have been living in Atlanta Metro area for the past 10 years. Will always be a Boston fan! Hoping for a Super Bowl win this year! That same son in law that was in 'mourning' for a week after that game moved to Denver a few years ago for his job. They have 2 girls, ages 7 and 5. Last year when the Pats and Broncos played his oldest wore a 'Manning' shirt and the youngest a 'Brady' shirt .... was really cute.

On Majesty of the Seas (which is retired, I believe), it was nearly impossible to watch anything. The signal kept cutting off. Needless to say, the TV was nothing more than a part time luxury.

I'm sure you get better reception on other ships.

I've probably been on during superbowl about three times including last year on the Liberty. There will be organized parties, showing the game, serving hot dogs, popcorn, etc in various venues. That food goes so quick, probably before the game even starts. Last year when we boarded we were at the pub and pretty soon, saw them setting up a football pool (forgot exactly what its called) in the promenade. A big board (they had many) and for $20 (if I recall) you put your name in the square. The casino was running that. They really made out great doing that. I hadn't remembered seeing that on the other two cruises.

The lounges get very crowded so get there early. As someone mentioned, you will not get to see the superbowl commercials at all.

We were on the Explorer a few years ago It started out great They had the theater all decorated in team colors and divided down the middle with the Patriots fans on one side and that "other" team on the other side Although I must say their fans were gracious in their teasing

GO PATS!!!!

Aha! Thanks. It was one of the things the cruise organizers used in the speal to us: that we were one of the last to use the retiring ship.

Turns out it was my first cruise so my expectations were almost non-existent. Except for the TV, the ship was great.

I guess i'll be even more surprised when i'm on Liberty Of The Seas next week or so. Good times.

GO PATS!!!!

That's funny the other team[emoji12] QB EM[emoji49]. Thankfully no Manning insight this year. It is going to be like taking candy from a baby next Sunday especially after that Sat. dog fight of a game, so we are headed back to AZ to for redemption. [emoji41]

AZ here we come. Looks Seahawks!

The game will be on the big screen and tv's. It is fun hanging at the pool drinks and the game.

Happy cruising all!
