Crown "smoking lounge"....really...??

So "flame" me if you must.....but as a cigar smoker the policy on the Crown is really not so good for us. We are not allowed to smoke up on the pool decks, only in the lounge off the casino, which would be just fine, if it were large enough and had a decent ventilation system. It's so very small, and there is no ventilation in there, our loved ones can't stand being in there with us, the smoke is so thick it sticks to everything on you. Up on deck 16 I was not allowed to smoke with the other cigarette smokers. Personally, I'd rather smell someone smoking a nice cigar than a cigarette any day. There other ships (Sapphire, Golden) have great lounges with good ventilation. It seems this was a total afterthought....and on superbowl Sunday, it was not enough room for everyone. Just sayin......:(

I agree, cigar's smell much better than cig's, When I was on the Grand, the cigar room by the casino was mostly cigarette smokers , so I went to the top deck by the 1five club and smoked my cigars there. Nicer chairs and open air.

It has nothing to do with the smell of a cigarette versus cigar and everything to do with fire - a mortal enemy of cruise ships. A cigar is a much bigger tobacco product and as such has more fire active when smoked. That increases the chance of an ember starting a fire. Hence the ban against cigars and pipes.

As for your loved ones not wanting to be in the bar with you maybe they are trying to tell you something. As for clothing, I can always tell who they are by the smell coming from their clothes. You may not be able to smell it but we non-smokers always can.

I would disagree. It has everything to do with the fact that you can smell a person smoking a cigar outside at least 1/4 mile away when the wind is blowing away from you and you can also smell the stink on their clothing as they walk by.

I will not say anything more for fear of being banned from CC.

OP - the simple solution to breathing fresh, unadulterated air is to stopping smoking and potentially killing those around you. I'm sorry but my dad died from stupidly smoking cigars and I can't stand to hear people killing themselves whine.

Definitely agree about that but only us non smokers would understand it. ;)

I think it is crazy that there is no outside place for this.

There are certainly places where there is enough apparent wind

from the ship moving that any smoke/smell would be carried

away.

I hear you and even though I don't smoke, I'd probably be able to get DH more into cruising if smoking cigars was allowed on the lido deck with the cigarette smokers.

My main complaint with the Speakeasy on the Crown is that there are too many cigarette smokers in there.

Speakeasy on the Crown, Emerald and Ruby are the same. Not as nice as the ships that have a Churchills. Problem is it is not a lounge but a room with a bartender that makes an occasional pass through. We were last on the Ruby for 17 days and DH could not enjoy a cigar because we could not get a seat. Filled as said with cigarette smokers. This I didn't understand as Speakeasy is located in the Casino which allowed smoking most nights (cigarettes not cigars). Normally on a 17 night cruise DH would have had 3-4 cigars.

I agree, and I am a smoker..However, I smoke outside all year, every day..and I can smell it from another car..So I found out the furthest area on the ship, and that's where I will be going..

It would be nice if all the different Cruise lines followed Celebritys Smoking Policy. No smoking inside the ship along with No smoking in the Casino and all Balconies.

I wish they would ban it all together too.....nothing worse then a Princess casino

(smoker's lounge). I like to gamble but only do it on non-smoke nights..sure they would possibly make more money.....just too unhealthy, annoying and miserable other nights.....and the smokers always look the picture of good health and serenity. :)

And I can't stand people dictating to me how to live MY life!!! There are things that nonsmokers do that endanger other people's lives but no one feels that it's acceptable to bash and harass them! Enough on this subject. Obviously I am a smoker but I make every effort to be considerate of others. But when I am in a designated smoking area my opinion is that if smoke bothers you DON'T GO THERE!!!

What, pray tell, do non-smokers do to endanger the lives of others by virtue of their being non-smokers that goes unremarked?

Smoking, be it cigar or cigarette just imposes too much on the people around you....I smoked 3 packs a day for 15 years before giving it up so understand where you are coming from....However, just being in an area that smoking is allowed...like the casinos in Vegas is bothersome..and they have very good ventilation.....while I don't believe secondhand smoke to be as dangerous as some claim my issue is more that the smoke smell gets into your clothing and the odor of the smoke itself (cigar smoke is not better ...to us worse actually because there is more of it) ....and non smokers are very sensitive to it. maybe Princess could put in some quiet hi speed fans in the ventilation system in the smoking lounge to pull the smoke out faster but, you should probably just count your lucky stars that it is still allowed onboard at all

Cigar smoke has a better scent to it but is actually harder to be around because there is MORE smoke.....you just can't see the problem BECAUSE you smoke and don't find it and irritating....

They probably could but it would be like a wind tunnel in there and also increase AC costs. It would at least keep some of the smoke from leaking out when the doors were opened.....and that wouldn't be all bad.

I can envision only one fix which would totally work but it wouldn't be to popular for the few remaining people who do continue to smoke.

What you need is a double door airlock system combined with a negative air pressure system within the room. You set up the airlock system so that only one door can be open at a time. The negative pressure within the room ensures that air flow is always into the room. You also need to have anyone within the room wear a disposable suit over their street clothing so that they do not stink so badly when they leave the room. Also, they would be required to take a shower when they leave the facility. I have worked in high hazard laboratories where we did this on a daily basis so I know that this will work. A bit unwieldy but it would work.

Considering what all this would cost, the ship could consider the room as a profit center by charging the cigar smokers a hefty price for the use of the facility.

Ok......The main complaint here seems to be the smell. Then I repeat what I stated before...DON'T GO TO THE SMOKING AREAS!! It's that simple. Also, I am very sensitive and react to many kinds of perfume and cologne. That's why we avoid the MDR. Too many people wearing too much perfume. I have severe reactions and have decided to avoid areas where people wearing to much perfume may be (i.e. dressing for dinner). I haven't (nor will I) start a thread complaining or asking for perfume to be banned because I don't like the smell and react to it.

I am a smoker but have smoked outside for more years than I can count. I fully expect to have to go to an outdoor area to smoke. I would not go on a cruise if that cruise banned all smoking on board. Are you kidding me?!!? Talk about extreme!

If smoke bothers you that much contact the cruise line and suggest they begin to offer "Non Smoking Cruises" and take one of those. You can be sure I will not be on your cruise.

I am a smoker, I do not deserve to be exiled, ridiculed and made to feel like I am horrible person because of the life choices I have made. A cruise ship is a small area for so many people that have different life styles. If I allow perfume, drinking, etc. ruin my vacation than I need to reconsider my travel choices. A little kindness and tolerance of others goes a long way.

Yes it does. But when you have a family member or friend die of cancer after smoking for years, you lose your tolerance of smokers and tend to avoid smoke filled areas. Lets change your statement to reflect how I feel.

I am a non-smoker and I don't deserve to be ridiculed and made to feel like a horrible person because I object to your smoke.

I'm sorry that you lost loved ones to cancer because of smoking. So, why blame ALL smokers for THEIR deaths. As I stated before...if the smell of smoke bothers you don't go to the areas where smoking is permitted. Simple solution.

I have wondered why the cruiselines don't create fireproof smoking lounges (they used to do this on dirigibles) with HEPA filtration? I am quite allergic to smoke, but have no objection at all to something like this as there would be little to no residual smoke to waft into other areas. My guess is the reason they aren't doing this is they plan to eventually ban smoking altogether onboard and don't want to add an interim expense.

Not quite that simple. What about all the smoke that drifts out of the casino into the Piazza. We don't go near the casino but get blasted with it every time we get even close by. It's become the new indoor smoking room.....for cigarettes at least and Princess doesn't seem to be the least bit interested in correcting that problem. As Ryndam2002 posted, maybe they are planning to eliminate it altogether & don't want to add to the expense.
