Nope.

Although it is funny (at least to us) to see people get busted by the food-sniffing dogs that the port authorities employ.

Port Authority: Sir..what are you carrying in your backpack?

Man: Uh...Nothing! I swear.:o

PA: Sir...my dog is indicating you have food in your backpack. Please open it.

Man: (opens backpack, hands over banana) It's JUST a banana. I thought I might get hungry later.

PA::mad:

I always take granola bars for the ports and a few different kinds of candy in zip lock bags for in our cabin and I've never been stopped. I don't take any of the ship's food tho.

People always think it's cute when the dog sits next to them, until the guard makes them open up their bags. Ensenada has a beautiful Golden Retriever.

But sometimes the dogs get it wrong. Sis was at the port of San Diego and stopped by a Ag cop whose dog was alerted to her. Turns out sis had Lemonheads. The cop and sis had a good laugh over it.

No at non US ports. Cozumel authorities had food "sniffer" dogs at the port the last time we were there.

You can't take food off the ship in US ports either. A few weeks ago we returned to Fort Lauderdale after our Princess cruise. When we got up to the customs/immigration booth there was a pile of fruit on the agents booth. I asked her what that was all about, and she replied "some people just don't get it that they can't bring food into the country from a cruise ship". She had an exasperated look on her face as she said it.

It's really hard for many people to understand this.

There are AG booths on the freeways into CA checking for various crops. Not always open but they are there.

At times we aren't able to take backyard fruit outside our local area.

I'm an Ag Specialist with CBP, and it's stupid how many people try to bring things into the country, whether it's driving across the border, taking it off of a cruise ship, or flying. And it's even more stupid how many people don't 'fess up when we ask them about it (and how many keep lying after we've put their bag through an x-ray and we've got the item in question on the screen). $300 makes them learn a lesson pretty quickly, lol.

For example, from a flight from Italy, while talking to a passenger in the baggage claim area:

Me: (reading declaration with nothing declared) Do you have any food items, groceries, snacks, fruits, vegetables, meats or meat products, anything you are going to eat at some point, etc?

Them: Nope.

Me: Did you get anything at Duty Free?

Them: Sure!

Me: Did you get a package of cured salami or prosciutto ham?

Them: Yeah

Me:  Even though it's packaged, that's still meat. Hand it over. Next time, failing to declare will get you a $300 penalty.
