Lack of Dreamworks on Anthem of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Sorry but I'll still disagree with you. There are still plenty of entertainment options on board. They may not appeal to you yet they are there and even if they weren't they still have that right to pull them. You never mentioned the comparison to taking away the smoking privileges. They marketed (it was in all their literature) that up until the day of the announcement which gave people only 3 months notice (I think it was about 3 months). Again, those in the US could cancel and those in the UK would face penalties. Even those in the US were really stuck as airfare was most likely not cancellable for many.

I totally get your frustration and yes I agree that in many of these similar situations Royal has been neglect in providing proper notice or allowing people to cancel without penalty but at the end of the day they can and will make these changes and us as consumers have no recourse.

If there was any recourse to be had, that anti Royal cruise lawyer would have been all over this and many other situations in the past. The only way to tell Royal how displeased you are is with your pocketbook and not sail with them anymore.

It's possible that I'm missing something. What entertainment options are there for 3 and 4 year olds since the pulled Dream Works?

The rides all have age/height restrictions and it's probably not appropriate for those kids to go to We Will Rock You - besides, I love my youngest one more than anything, but nobody wants to sit next to a 3 year old during We Will Rock You. It can't be a fun experience and probably disrespectful to everyone around.

My 9 year old is entirely different, but a 3 year old- not good.

As for smoking, there are places to smoke- there's an area with a glass canopy, balconies and your cabin, I believe the casino and other designated areas around the ship.

We're pretty comfortable with the idea that we can cancel, but it's ridiculous that those in the UK are stuck.

They somehow manage to send direct mail to everyone when they want to. Why not send something out to all future passengers letting them know that there was a mis-print/change in plans, whatever?

Tell those passengers that DW won't be on their sailing?

They can send it via email, but they haven't (and won't).

BTW - one more (possible) example of Royal intentionally withholding information is the Bermuda Dredging situation.

I'm sure they know something about that, since they're finding a portion of that. But once again, no communication.

It's pretty obnoxious.

I agree that the only way to show them is with your wallet, but it's pretty sad. What happened to Customer Service?

"Balconies and your cabin"!

Are you sure?

I stand corrected. No smoking in the staterooms or balconies.

But there are places where smoking is permitted on-board.

I've unsubscribed from this thread, I can't take it anymore. Good luck with your efforts. Tell me what the FTC says about your complaint. Why don't you contact the attorney in Miami who sues cruise lines, while you're at it?

Just thought I'd add my thoughts, I've read through all the posts in this thread as I'm booked on Anthem at the end of October, I definitely saw Dreamworks advertised in the UK brochure and am sure it was specifically mentioned on the cruise I'm booked on (October 27th transatlantic). I think it's pretty disgraceful that they have misled so many people about this and even though I'm 40, love the Dreamworks films so was quite looking forward to seeing something on board, I am sure that Watchdog would be very interested in this story if someone hasn't already contacted them I think it is definitely worthwhile, also the ASA and maybe ABTA too.

My family and I have just come back from sailing on the Anthem. We were unaware that the DW was not actually on the ship, one reason we booked the cruise was my son would enjoy the DW. We asked on board after a few days when the DW was going to happen only to told then it was only for cruises out of America. We got a brocher from guest services and it was clearly showing it was to be on board.

SInce we have got home we have contacted RCL only to be told that changes can be at any time, we have been offered wine and strawberries for our cabin if we cruise with them again as a way of compensation.

I have just phoned RCL sales line to enquire about a cruise in October out of Southampton only to told by a HUGO that Dreamworks is on board as stated in the brocher and its fantastic as he has been on the ship. So have tonspent a few grand to get the £30 compo.

On separate note we got home with our CD for the photos only to find it was blank. Check it before you leave.

The main pools are not heated unlike the smaller one and the hottubs.

The ship and the whole experience was fantastic, but things like the above just marr the experience.

Would contacting Abta do any good

Ps. You can smoke on deck 14 and deck 5 next to the art gallery.

Just WoW to the above two posts!

It's pretty bad when someone says that they experienced DW onboard, when clearly they did not, especially when that person is on the RCL sales line!!

RCI still has not gotten it right! Ugggghhhh!

I think it would be great if both of you sent this to watchdog, ASA and ABTA!

I'm in the states or I would report to them.

I also encourage those that are onboard or just coming off is their cruise to please provide feedback via comment card. I'm told that those are now electronic, but I'm sure they have regular comment cards at guest services for those that are less computer literate.

The comment cards will go straight to RCI offices rather than someone on the front lines manning the phones.

If there's one positive from this, it seems that it's plausible that DW may be in place when the ship comes state side.

Otherwise, I would be pretty really annoyed!

I am happy they have finally been able to get that out there publically. That action is pretty much what ABTA would have required of them under the 'Code of Conduct' and it appears that, ABTA member, RCI have complied.

FINALLY! So now a few few follow-up questions:

Now that they've acknowledges that they were in error. Do they intend to offer compensation to those that booked as a result of the error.

And my other follow-up question is for US-based TA's: have you received similar guidance for those booking Anthem cruises out of Cape Liberty?

I was thinking that if not, it may be an indication that DW will be available on US based cruises.

The Trade Marketing flyer, "NEW! Anthem of the Seas FAQs" provided on the Travel Agent RCI website states that DW will not be on Anthem of the Seas.

This flyer was published on May 1, 2015.

The March 10th US consumer flyer did not feature DW onboard Anthem.

The Anthem of the Seas E-brochure did not show DW in text or image.

Dreamworks just announced as part of a huge upgrade for Majesty who is now staying in the fleet at Port Canaveral. Maybe they got all the stuff originally destined for Anthem?

It's probably not the case, but it all seems so random!

Based on the post a few entries back, it seems that RC has admitted their error.

I'm not sure that will help many of those that booked under false pretense.

I wish DW would come to Anthem stateside, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards.

  • 4 weeks later...

We have had compensation offered first it was a bowl of strawberries and a bottle of wine. They have now increased this to 10% off another cruise and the strawberries.

So in order to get the compensation we have to spend a few grand to get it, we contacted the travel agent but because RCL have been in contact direct they don't want to know.

Where to go now?????

Have you made it clear what you want and why you think you are entitled to that compensation based upon the facts relevant to your situation? Often, a company will start with a "nuisance" type compensation offer but if you make it clear what you want and why you are entitled to more compensation you are more likely to get an offer acceptable to you.

Hi, you're not the first & likely not the last to have this problem. I agree that a future cruise discount is useless if you feel misled by RCL & unwilling to spend more money with them.

I suggest an email to RCL UK clearly stating why the Dreamworks experience is so important to & what you expect to be a suitable resolution to the problem.

You may get some on board credit or you may get even more p***ed off with their intransigent attitude.

Email to CMasters@rccl.com

CC to sleven@rccl.com agoldstein@rccl.com mbayley@rccl.com rfain@rccl.com

Good luck and most importantly try not to let this sour your cruise.

Still wondering if we'll see the DW characters during the Summer 2016 season when she's in the states and when there are going to be lots of kids onboard because school will be out for the Summer.

Unconfirmed rumour from the ship is that D/W will be on once it gets to the States. I am on board next month so will try and get some info.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

They probably could make the change during the TA.

In the new brochures we got in Rome a week ago, whilst on board. All Dreamworks references for Anthem have been removed including Stateside cruises from November till April 2016.

Part of that has to do with timing and when the content is sent to print and the other factor is how quickly and easily they change their minds.

Marketing people like to call this being agile, but the reality is that they're still trying to figure things out in a new market on a new ship with new services.
