Ohio couple Claims to Have Been "Held Hostage" on RCL Cruise

Recommended Posts

Make an off the cuff comment to your spouse that is overheard by security in an airport and see what happens to you. Even if there is no more to the story that what we have read the response does not particularly surprise me and I am not so sure that I think it was an over reaction either. Some things you just don't joke about.

Better yet, how about to a TSA agent. DW had stuffed her carry on so full for the trip home, she almost had to sit on it to zip. Well, TSA spotted something in X-ray that spurred their curiosity and pulled it for further inspection. Just as the agent was about to open it, DW without thinking says, "Careful it might explode." As soon as the words left her lips, she panicked and started trying to explain what she meant. The agent was mature gentlemen and spent more time trying to calm her down than actually searching the bag. He seemed to be having a good chuckle as he released the bag to her. I wish I had it on video.

Then why post and comment about it darling ?

One wonders !!

.

Excuse me? So I shouldn't post and comment on a story that I think fellow cruisers would find interesting?

ten bucks says as soon as they were confronted by Security they went ballistic on the defensive and overly emotional rather than staying calm and explaining themselves.

as for the sheer idiocy of leaving a weapons magazine( and not the kind with pages) in your luggage?! who DOES that?!

90% of the time things get out of control due to how people (over) react to a situation(Baltimore riots, anyone?!) and make things worse by their attitudes towards the people with the authority.

I tend to agree. However, I can see how a magazine could get left in a pocket and forgotten about. Unfortunately, my wonderful retired police officer/ hunter used our suitcase on a hunting trip. He always unloads all his guns before packing them. Unknown to us, one bullet had slipped under the lining and was stuck in the track for the handle. Of course we did not know it until security called him to guest services before sail away and took him down to meet with the Port Police. They all had a heck of a time finding it, only after completely emptying the suitcase and running it through the X-ray again were they able to finally locate it. He was polite the entire time and after they let him back on (he missed muster as they detained him for so long), we never had anymore issues. The great news is that it fixed the handle that wouldn't work properly!

They're already gearing up for their lawsuit, as she had her first nightmare last night about the event. I bet these people think they have won the lottery... and sadly, they probably will be "rewarded" handsomely.

What kind of nightmare can you have about being confined to a cruise ship cabin? SMH...opportunists

Methinks we have another "hooka herb" story here. (Newer members can search it if you don't know the story).

Actually I'm surprised a one post wonder about it hasn't appeared on these pages yet. They usually do.

The way they are furiously using social media to boost the profile of this makes me think their reaction at the time was less than easy going.

Being from the UK, the idea of someone boarding a cruise with a gun cartridge scares the hell out of me.

OK, I'll apologize in advance, but my first thought was, "Have you seen what's on TV in an RCI cabin?" We just got back from a cruise and all we had were mostly shows in Spanish or shows in English with Spanish subtitles obscuring half the screen. Even then there were only a couple of channels. The rest were shopping talks and other advertising channels and the CD's morning show. All kinds of torture. The channel with the forward facing webcam was the most interesting. Hopefully, they had a couple of iPads.

:)

Two words to remove from your vocabulary while traveling. "BOMB" will get you questioned and detained almost anywhere, but particularly on a plane or in an airport. "OVERBOARD" will most certainly cause you problems on any ship. The ship has a moral and legal responsibility to protect you from yourself.

Follow the old saying "First engage your brain before putting your mouth in gear."

I too remember the hooka herb story and you're absolutely on target. There is no way these people were moved from a suite to an inside room and guarded until the first port without some extreme behavior on their part. NO FREAKING WAY. Sadly, we won't get the real story because Royal will of course be on lockdown to comment on it due to legal issues.

Well, I just looked and apparently they are members of CC and posted on their roll call. I'm surprised they haven't blown up CC blasting about this.

What do you expect from people from OHIO?

P.S. I was born in Ohio (didn't live there long), and my wife and in-laws are from there.

No need to INSULT the good people of OHIO! There's just as much ( or more ) STUPID in Texas!

There are suicides and murder-suicides on cruise ships every year. RCI is right to keep their attendants alert.

yes i agree. because if his wife did jump overboard im sure by the time they got back to land he'd have a lawyer on retainer blaming RCCL for negligence,

why didn't they stop herrrrrrr...

I live in Ohio (unfortunately) and knowing the side of town they live in, I'm not surprised.

How about the one where the couple had some "party-favors" in the bottom of a false can stashed in their dive bag? That was a fun read. Not sure of the title of that post, but it was about 2 years ago.

Thats the same thread Tbone2k is talking about and it has long since been deleted from this site. I was actually on that cruise! It was April 2012 on a Freedom cruise. She had been talking to us on the roll call for months and we all wondered why they never showed up to the M&M. After we got back to Port Canaveral we found out why :D They were escorted off the ship before we even left PC.

The times that we live in makes your statement even more true. Not many people have common sense, and I have not found the aisle in the supermarket that sells it either.

LOL , I live on the other side of Columbus . Just because they list their address as Hilliard they could have a Million dollar house in some places of that area. You just assume because its the west side the are poor scum of the earth ??? You list your address as Columbus I could assume you are from some the worst parts of C-Bus .
