Symphony of the Seas' Blocks Are in the House!

Recommended Posts

This is interesting.... this flyer is advertising itineraries on the Symphony out of Rome but in reality the sailings will be out of Barcelona going to the same ports as above with one sea day. The dates are also a bit different, instead of June 14 (Thursday), it would start on June 10 (Sunday).

If it's like Harmony the main embarkation was Barcelona but they also had embarkation from Rome. We did this last summer. Maybe they are doing the same.

So where's the extra 4K GT of space? And of course they had to make it a foot longer to claim biggest ship.

On that ship one extra foot of length calculates to almost 2K of GT. If i understand the calculations. :o

Sure if it's in the middle of the ship, but that extra foot can also simply be a foot long piece of steel tacked on to the bow. Adding a foot onto a established design of the hull is probably not a simple thing. I have a feeling something on the ship got enclosed or they are measuring something differently from Harmony, or, it could simply be a typo.;p

It looks like the aft ends of Decks 7-14 have been extended to include four extra balcony rooms (two on each side of each deck).

You can call it Symphony now. :D

I hope they don't have any below the water issues with the new terminal. Those seemed to be the cause of delays in PC.

Refresh my memory on that John. I remember watching the construction cam when they had it.

USA Today quoting Bayley as saying the Solarium will be "quite a lot" different than the ones on the earlier Oasis Class ships.

Also from that article -

The new details about the ship came as Royal Caribbean prepared to break ground Wednesday on a new terminal at the port of Miami that will be able to accommodate ships as big as Symphony.

I imagine someone knows exactly what spot of land they are using. I am guessing the ships will not enter the channel or use the turn around basin?

Lots of old pilings from previous docks. Impacted the section over by Grills. The safe thing about PC was they had the Terminal up and running months before Oasis showed up. I think it's pretty ballsy to schedule both Symphony and Allure to dock there so close to scheduled completion. Shiitake happens. ;p

Many would say Harmony Solarium was quite a lot different from the earlier Oasis ships. ;)

From an article at

http://www.travelagentcentral.com/

It's slightly longer, a tad wider," and with more staterooms than other Oasis-class vessels," said Michael Bayley, the line's president and CEO. "We've added a couple of features. We've changed the design in Solarium quite a lot, so it's changed the ship ... and added a little bit of weight."

I hope that means they put a POOL back in the solarium and took out the misters that Harmony has....what a waste!

That was my thought as well, my friend has already booked April 27th on Symphony. I'm considering booking it while on Adventure in April, if I wait that long. I do remember when FLL built terminal 18 Navigator went there first and there was a lot of confusion and difficulty handling a ship that large for awhile. I thought I read the first couple of Freedom cruises from Terminal 1 at PC were a little chaotic as well. Here is hoping.

If you are not a fan of the ports - why not make those your own personal "sea days"?

While I am a big fan of staying on the ship in port, it is not the same as a sea day.

Limited activities, limited eating choices, no casino, no shops, no breeze

Just my opinion
