Just off the Mariner....confirming there was NO block party on this cruise[emoji20]

What a shame, it was such a good idea for meeting people if that was what you wanted to do, you could also opt out.

On our Voyager cruise, we were out on the balcony one day (5) and it turned out that the people we had been chatting to for all that time were in the cabin next door!...how weird was that? Still keeping in touch too :D

Keep up the Block Parties Rssc! :)

Yes Larry,

I don't remember when the Block Parties started but certainly by 2007 . . . .

Peggy

A well known TA had some large groups in 2003/2004/2005. At the time Radisson was not all inclusive. One of the cruises all of her pax were in the same hallway pretty much. We had our in cabin alcohol set up but drinks in the bar were not included. Originally we all invited each other to our cabins for pre dinner drinks. Maybe the Todd Cosmo will ring a bell with some of the passengers. That's the start. Someone told one of the CD's - I think it was Jaime Logan.

We had a terrific block party on our "European wonders" cruise two weeks ago. We were way down on deck seven, so it took a long time for captain Daniel Green, CD Chris Stewart and the rest of the crew to get down to us, but we had a wonderful time meeting our neighbors. The Russian ballroom champions, Ilya and Ysennia, were in the cabin next to us and we not only had a wonderful time chatting with them, we ended up going to all of their shows on the trip. One night with 10 foot swells when the ship was really bouncing, they performed a flawless show. The block party still lives on the Voyager!

Sad to say...no block party...CD Chris said it was because of the port times for this cruise (later departures several days) for this port-intensive 11-night cruise.

Looking forward to them on Mariner SA Grand Voyage in January :-)

Just sailed Mariner in July/August and we had a block party. We just started sailing Regent in '09 but I remember more block parties than not...and all I've attended have been very fun, completely worthwhile. I know it's a challenge for the crew, but greatly appreciated by this cruiser.

Keep it up, Regent!

PS - if it wasn't for the block party, I might not have seen our butler Ryan from a cruise 2 years back - and he remembered us. THAT is the kind of service that keeps us coming back, too.

Boarded the Navigator today and in the Passages it shows the Block Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 31st.

Good to hear that there will be a Block Party! That should be fun:o

O-Kat, to my knowledge, dressing for Halloween is not a Regent thing. It would be different if it was a school holiday and young children were onboard.

Vitacura, we were on this cruise last year and Halloween we had an overnite dock in New York. The staff decorated the Sette Marie restaurant and there were various other decorated areas over the ship. I had taken some fancy Halloween hair slides that I put on and were well appreciated by fellow guests. We had a very special Halloween evening on Navigator.

Have a wonderful cruise, we rated it as our best cruise ever. Jean.

Interesting! It is quite unusual that a Regent ship would be docked in the U.S. on a U.S. holiday. Kindly advise what "fancy Halloween hair slides" are as I am not familiar with them. I am assuming that this is something that you attach to your hair that could be construed as a Halloween costume????? Was there anyone in costume that night? Just curious:-)

We were overnight October 30th until 31st, so technically would that be classed as a local holiday? For some reason I had thought it was the Halloween night we were overnight. We were able to enjoy the decorations in many areas.

The fancy Halloween hair slides are sparkly diamonte hair slides or clasps as you may call them for long/longer hair. The shape was like a bat.

Happy Halloween to all, Jean.

They placed some carved and decorated pumpkins outside La Veranda this morning. Halloween tea time and a trick or treat block party where costumes are welcome later today. (No costume for me!) Lots of Halloween themed/decorated desserts and menu items being offered today.

Please let us know if you see anyone in costume. Typically, mainstream cruise line passengers tend to dress up (have seen a few passengers new to Regent wear strange things to dinner -- saw two couples that would wear lights and other weird things in their hair every night.). It is nice that there is a small celebration for Halloween. IMO, Halloween isn't exactly a "holiday". Many people in the U.S. avoid it (for religious reasons) and it is unknown in many parts of the world.

Have a great time at block party and good Halloween night and food. Brings back good memories. Hope you keep us posted on your travels.

In actuality, maybe due to commercialism, Halloween has now spread to other parts of the world - I was in London two weeks ago and Halloween is now celebrated there, and no less than Fortnum and Mason was festively decorated for the holiday. As a child, Halloween was never celebrated on the UK, it was Guy Falkes day celebrated in November.

In the States, in regard to money spent, Halloween is now only second to Christmas and is almost considered a "National Holiday" with regard to activities - even conservative Wall Street offices which do not decorate for any holidays are now decorated for Halloween.

We have been on a Regent ship for Halloween and it was nicely decorated and some of the crew wore costumes, as did some of the guests. There were Halloween themed activities, including the afternoon tea. Also, some guests came prepared and had decorated their doors for the holiday.

gnomie :)

According to history, some western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom as well as of Australia and New Zealand and it is now about candy, dressing up and parties rather than what it was historically. Fortunately (IMO), it is not known in most of the world. Reading the newspaper today reminds me why it is not one of my favorite days (although it was a lot of fun in the 'old days').

In terms of the ship, I look forward to learning how the festivities were on the Voyager or Mariner. We have seen people that decorate doors for holidays but this is something that seems to come from mainstream cruise lines (along with wearing your door key around your neck:D). There was likely a lot of partying on NCL, Carnival and Royal Caribbean last night. Just hope that everyone was safe.

We were on the Mariner until last week and visited Spain, France and Italy. And in every city, Halloween festivities were evident. Stores decorated, costumes and candy being sold...Halloween parties were advertised. We even saw the TV news from Spain and Italy channels and reporters were interviewing people on the street about their trick or treating plans. There was a huge banner even in Piazza Navona....yes, Halloween has spread thru Europe not just the UK.

Thanks for the update. I guess craziness is one thing that spreads easily around the world. Wish that peace and goodwill would spread as quickly (not meant as a political comment).

Not many dressed up for Halloween last night on the Navigator. The cruise director and her assistant were the only crew I saw in costume, perhaps there were others. As for guests, there were about a dozen wearing half masks, such as the ones prevalent in Venice, and only two in a full costume with cape and hat during dinner in compass rose last night. Will try to see if there were others dressed up while I watch the filming of the block party when it is shown.

There were a handful of door decorations done by guests.
