Kids in hot tubs?!?!

Agree with the OP about babies barely our of diapers allowed in the hot tubs. I'm not in agreement with that. Don't think I'll be using the hot tubs at the main pools anymore. Sigh.

Agreed. Also, noting the earlier poster referring to enjoying "adult beverages" in the hot tub, children are not the only possible polluters. Even if the water is changed daily, cruise ship hot tubs have to be seen as human broth pots.

It would be a good idea for you to go on a luxury line - oh wait, the kids still get in and monopolize the hot tubs. best choice would be to put a hot tub in your back yard.

You can always tell who the parents are because they have a Wow when somebody god forbid mentions that their " little darlings " shouldn't be allowed to be at a certain place. Would you bring your kids into a bar?

First off I have kids, second I wouldn't allow them into a hot tub marked adults only. It's just rude to not follow rules and declare that because you are on vacation that the posted rules don't apply to you or your family.

Its not all kids that ruin it for others, its the ones that don't have their parents watching them and letting them run free. The hot tubs are small enough the way it is, pools too, but if you want to bring your kids along on vacation then parent them like you are at home (or maybe this is what you do at home and have lack of parenting)... I left mine at home just so I could spend some time with the wife without kids... I don't need yours hoping in and out of the hot tub splashing everywhere, spilling my drink etc.

Here's the thing - as a parent, our top 3 vacations are beach vacations, WDW, and cruising. Cruising wins out as the easiest and cheapest with kids. Before kids, we would go to B & B's, adult all inclusives, ski homes with just adults, beach homes with just adults, major cities for museums, dining and bars...

You get what you pay for - you can't have caviar for the price of canned tuna. Cruises attract families because they are a relatively inexpensive option, with little work involved.

Kids should never be in adult hot tubs, but the majority of the hot tubs on the main stream lines are for everyone. Personally, I'm not getting into any of those science experiments, but to each his own. DH and I can invest in a spa pass, and know we have a refuge from kids - still way cheaper than taking a higher end cruise not as welcoming of families.

I have a group of mom friends currently on a girls weekend - to Vegas. If I were young and single, I'd much rather go there than on a family friendly cruise line.

My kids love the hot tubs and unless there is an official rule against it, I have no problem with them being in there. They're being charged just as much as you are so why would I take them away from something thy enjoy? I'll follow rules, but that's enough

Kids should really not be allowed in any hot tubs. It's an adult oriented feature, I mean, what do kids want with it anyway? What, they've been working hard and need to unwind? They've got sore muscles? Honestly there is so much kid oriented stuff on these cruises, especially Breakaway class, they get it all made just for them and it's totally free and we, the adults, are expected to pay extra to get away from them? (Which I do, for lack of a better option). Give me a break, we just want to chill with an adult beverage and soak a while without little kids splashing in our faces and ruining the whole experience. It's hard enough to compete with other grown ups for a spot in the hot tubs, never mind kids who act wild and stay there forever.

And furthermore, do they have a maximum age for who may use the hot tubs?

I guess if we are going to make that argument then I won't expect to see adults on the waterslides as those are kid oriented features.

There are a-holes of all ages, kids and adults alike. If they are lessening your enjoyment of a particular place calmly call them out on it. That includes kids. Most people, kids included, will oblige. If you really honestly just can't stand the sight of children but love to cruise, try a cruise line that doesn't have a kids' club.

The official rule would be that there are signs that say adults only on many of the hot tubs (at least on the two main ones next to the adult only pool on the breakaway). There are some designated ones that are family friendly.

Yeah, til your 6 or 10 year old drowns in a 5 foot lukewarm adult hot tub. Go ahead play Russian Roulette with your kids' lives - That's a free feces show of "Glad it wasn't my kid dying" and "let me take a picture of this, to post on Facebook" on a cruise ship sailing.

Why would they drown if they are swimmers?? I think that some parents who have non swimming children think that hot tubs are safer then the pools, which is not true.....but if your children can swim, they are no more likely to drown in a hot tub then they are in a pool or bathtub.

He's right it really is annoying how people let their " little darlings " have free reign of the cruise ship. Let them stay in the children's area 24 7

Hot topic I guess. I have to say I have been on many cruises and I have never experienced rowdy children in the hot tubs. I don't mind children being in them as long as they are being good. If I saw a child splashing or jumping I would ask them to stop. I do agree though if the hot tub says adults only, children should not be in them, as we need our children to learn how to follow rules. I think this is the problem, too many parents don't follow rules and then their children learn bad behavior. As a teacher at a middle school I can tell which children have never learned that the rules apply to them. It's all about the parenting:rolleyes:

Why would you think an adult hot tub is safe for kids, especially for those that don't know how to swim?!?! An adult hot tub on NCL Breakaway is like what, 4-5 feet water deep and the adult pool is 7 feet deep? And you're going to let a little kid swim in hot tub of that nature with "Swim at your own risk" posted all over and ship swaying side to side in the ocean, not think nothing bad is going to happen?!?!

Sheesh, no wonder the cruise line has those signs up and wash their hands all of this- There's parents that actually think it's okay letting kids that are not even teenagers yet, swim in adult labeled pools / tubs. Then they're 1st ones crying that their kids took too much water in their lungs and it's the cruise line's fault for having the tub/pools in the 1st place...[emoji57]

I knew I'd get some helicopter parents making ridiculous statements. I tried to get a Vibe pass as I usually do, but they were sold out by 12:45. At least twice, we (adults in hot tub) spoke to children and parents reminding them we were in the adults only tub. One five year old, unaccompanied, did not speak English so it took a minute or two to translate. NCL gets a B+ on enforcing the hot tub separation.....Look, I love seeing kids having fun, diving, dancing ....just not in a hot tub. Have that fun in the kids area.

Totally agree. If there are no restrictions, hot tub away.

There are areas set aside for adults only. The OP can go sit there. If kids are around, then make a decision whether to make a scene or just accept that some people don't always follow the rules. Like going over the speed limit. Or jaywalking. Or carrying that muffin ashore when the signs say no food taken off the ship.

Totally disagree. All passengers are equal and should have equal access to ship's resources. These are all fun cruises for all ages. If you are looking for a booze cruise with drunk coeds you should look elsewhere.

On the Getaway they are not Adult only. As the OP clearly stated.

6&8

Which OP are you reading? I'm pretty sure the OP did mention that there are some signs that say adult only. I know for a fact that on the breakaway there are adult only hot tubs as is the pool. Bottom line is some people don't follow the rules and allow their kids in the hot tubs even if they say adult only. I don't normally go in the hot tubs, but if I wanted to then I would not hesitate to make the kids leave.

My last cruise on the breakaway this past may, a women thought it was ok to not only allow her kid (maybe 5-7 years old) in the hot tub, but also thought it would be funny to get pictures of the brat eating an ice cream cone in there. And when he dropped it into the tub, her and the kid started cracking up laughing, and got out. Some people are truly clueless and CLASSLESS,

If the Getaway is truly the Breakaway sister ship - it's the 3 hot tubs that are around the adult pool. Meanwhile, there's a kid section with a 3 feet deep pool that's about same length/width as the adult one and a water park that bigger than 3 hot tubs combined. That's not counting the water slides.

Sheesh, what more do parents want for their kids - You got an entire area for your children, you think the other adults without kids are going to go in that area? You think the other adults want to put up with or babysit your kids in areas that clearly marked both "Adults only" and "Swim at your own risk"?!?!

Not directed at you Moby0215 - these parents / guardians have some serious audacity, subjecting complete strangers to their rule-breaking like their above it when clearly they're not. Just because one pays the same adult full fare /DSC for child(ren), does not mean under-18 gets full run of the entire cruise ship and disturbing others in areas clearly marked "Adults only"!!!

If something says Adult Only it is really for the cruise line to enforce if people won't abide on their own. If the cruise line won't enforce their own policies that is a service issue.

If something does not say adults only, then as far as I can tell it is open to all ages. The expectation is that everyone, regardless of age, behaves in such a way that doesn't negatively impact those around them. And that statement goes for both children and adults. I've been in hot tubs and pools and there have been children that were 100% well behaved and had no negative impact on my enjoyment. on the other side of the coin there have been adults that were obnoxious, drunk, or otherwise a bit out of hand and disturbed those around them. But I have also been in hot tubs and pools with rambunctious kids and it is annoying, and I have been in there with other adults just relaxing and quietly enjoying themselves. To me it is more about behavior than it is about age.

Motley, if you want a party cruise suggest you try Bimini Superfast/Resorts World. Runs Miami to Bimini (only 40 miles). Drops you at their resort which is brand new and has a nice casino. Beautiful beach. Free trolley into Alice Town to the night clubs and bars. that is 100% a party ship to the max. If you want to party with a young, rambunctious crowd that is where you will find it. They constantly run deals and promos, so you can do that a bunch of times for less than a 3 night "real" cruise. Just a suggestion if you really want a party vibe. 4000+ pax cruise ships are not meant to be "girls gone wild" and you are going to have a bad time if that's what you are expecting on a megaliner.

I think you're confusing my post with one that is saying that I would somehow let me NON swimming children be in a hot tub or a pool alone. I would not. My children can swim, heck they're 11 and 14. What I was referring to was someone saying that a 6 and 10 year old would drown. The parents of those children, who surely must not have been able to swim, were irresponsible in allowing their children in ANY body of water without close supervision.

My point is, why can't children that know how to be around water be in a "non adult" hot tub. I am not letting my children EVER be in a hot tub that is labeled "adult only" and they both know how to swim. So why can't they be in "a hot tub"?

But we're not talking a general / non-adult / for everyone tub - we and the OP are talking about hot tubs clearly labeled on the inside "Adults only" and underneath / next to that metal plaque is "Swim at your own risk" plaque. Big difference....
