Casino smoke

Years ago CCL did have a non smoking ship but according to the beards it was the least profitable ship in the fleet so it went back to smoking they put profits over people's health.

Gary

While I am not a smoker, my husband is (and I have to say a very considerate smoker). CCL is not in the business of people's health. They are in the business of making a profit. If people were that worried about their health (which is their own responsibility, not a corporation's) then they should have made that non-smoking ship as popular as possible so it would still be a non-smoking ship.

The reason it is so bad is because smokers are being pushed out of every area. From what I understand, it has gotten worse since the ban on balcony smoking. Maybe folks that complained all the time about being able to smell a whiff of cigarette smoke from their balcony should have thought about what might happen inside where there is quite a bit more than a whiff of smoke.

Just sayin'.

I will first say, I am no ones judge. I am an ex-smoker, quit 20 years ago.

That non-smoking ship was a very long time ago when smoking was socially accepted. There was more smoking people then, not so much now.

I'm not sure where everyone lives but here on Long Island you can't smoke anywhere.

I think if the cruiseline tried the non smoking ship again it would be a huge hit.

It is a shame that people get so upset over the little bit of room that smokers are allowed these days. If you don't like the smoke, cruise elsewhere. There are plenty of cruise lines that do not allow smoking in the casino.

That's my thinking exactly. When Paradise went smoke-free, the smoking ban wasn't as big a thing back then. Now almost everywhere I go is smokefree, which makes the smokey ships even more noticeable.

I just got off the Freedom where the smoke was horrendous. I would love to sit and listen to the band on the Promenade, but I always avoid it because of the smoke. I could smell it in the main theater also, and most times I was in my cabin it reeked. This was the worst I've ever seen it. I wish Carnival could come up with a better solution.

Was on the Pride two weeks ago and you could hardly breathe in the Casino, and anywhere leading to the Casino. We were on her about 7 months prior and it wasnt like that. They need a better air filtration system for the Casinos and enforce the no smoking areas of the Casinos. Its only fair to both non smokers and smokers.......

The answer is for carnival to provide some ventilation in the casino. You don't see Vegas casinos with clouds of smoke. They have monster air cleaning systems.

What they said!!!

Even the hole in the wall bars I go to sometimes, have excellent ventilation systems.

If you are truly that easily bothered. Vacation elsewhere. Stop being so weak. Deal with it! And you're wrong. I'm not A smoker!

ah play nice. I never said non smokers didn't have rights, I just want a better system. I don't smoke don't care who does just looking for solutions so all crusiers can enjoy the casino.

The Paradise was non-smoking from 1998 through 2003. Not THAT long ago, IMHO. The tide was turning against smoking throughout that period and more after that, so I agree with you there.

So... you can't smoke in your own home if it's on Long Island? :)

I very much doubt a non-smoking ship would be a hit on anyone's cruise line, but if you've got a few hundred million to spare, you can buy a ship or two, start your own line and try it out. Or if you've got a a billion or two (or forty, in CCL's case), you can do a hostile takeover, declare yourself chairman, and change their policies.

I am not a smoker and I deal with it at the casino. The cruise ship industry will all come together some day and ban smoking from the casino too. It will happen just as soon a money hungry attorney files a class action suit against the ships and wins!

Smoking area on top of the ship (geeee ---> a natural free ventilator)!

People are going to gamble no matter what: until then we all just have to suck it up :D

Slightly off topic....

I am not a smoker anymore. But I think it is silly that when you go on different ships, the smoking areas on outside decks are different on each ship?! Why on one its okay to smoke on the forward port side on the pool deck, but on the next ship, you have to go to the starboard side on the 11 deck. If they were the same from ship to ship, everyone would now where to avoid.

(examples only-I don't know if those locations are correct)

I think it would be nice to have a separate casino for smoking...to play, you have to smoke :) Of course if more people won in there, the others would say it was a conspiracy

Not everyone, just the ardent non smokers who seem to believe everyone should change or sacrifice except them. I hear it a lot. I cant go in the casino, I cant be on my balcony, I cant do this I cant do that. Nothing makes them happy, no compromise is enough.

Of course, I remember when smoking was everywhere, even airplanes. Amazingly, there weren't a lot of people walking around waving their hands or whining about the smell.

That's because, way back then, they didn't have all the knowledge available about how bad second hand smoke is for people. I use to smoke, it stinks! I'm apalled all those years ago that I smelled so rank. The sacrifice you are asking for is our health.

You obviously are used to smelling like smoke and thinking its normal, but most of the country is not (according to statistics), It is not just a "whiff" of smoke on the balcony, its sitting inside an envelope of smoke, constantly. You should be a smoker because you just don't get it, we do not have a choice but to INHALE the smoke of a smoker near us, we need to breathe so we need to inhale. If I spend the same amount of money for a balcony as you BUT I cannot sit or use my balcony because of the obnoxious smoke 24/7 how is that understandable?

Its a smokers choice to smoke and not care about their own health BUT they have no business or right to make that same decision for me by blowing the smoke in my airspace for long periods of time (like on a balcony) or gathering in masses so that the air is now a fog (indoor spaces), open your eyes and use common sense. So the smokers need to move outside, in the fresh air so their smoke disappears, just sayin....

I admit to liking the casino however lately I spend less and less time because of the smoke. We go down early am as its pretty smoke free and if there is a smoke free time we utilize that. However even if one area is smoke free it drifts over and we eventually leave.

I figure the premier and cruise selects just might have to many smokers so we keep trying to use casino discounts.

Not asking smokers to quit but has any cruise line ever considered two different Casino rooms on board in different areas of ship one being smoke free?

It would be nice if Carnival got "on board" with the land-based casinos that have gone totally smoke free. My last 2 land-based casino visits were to smoke-free casinos and I enjoyed it so much more without all the smoke.

I do the same thing as you by going to Carnival's casino early in the morning before it gets smoky. Once it gets smoky, I have to leave and find something else to do. Carnival does not enforce its policy of smoking only being allowed while playing. I see smokers all the time just hanging out smoking in the casino without playing. Non-playing smokers seem to like to congregate in front of the large windows that look out over the water.

I was on the Freedom repo cruise in Feb and the smoke was really bad, the casino staff would check to make sure that only players were smoking and not just spectators. With that being said, Carnival needs a better way to clean the air in the casino area and the area directly surrounding it. Half of the casino bar, the side that is on the outside of the casino was smoke free. Also, there was an activity each night at the casino stage and it was really smokey there too.

I understand, it's a money thing about not eliminating smoking in the casino 100%, but they need to do a better job taking care to minimize the smoke in the area, because us non smokers like to gamble and drink too.

The reason they allow smoking in casinos is that smoking like gambling and drinking is a compulsive habit. So a drinker, smoker is more likely to be a compulsive gambler and more money. That doesn't mean they are bad people but just more likely to pay more money to the cruise line.

To reduce the smoke in the casino they should put a cigar bar on every ship where you could smoke and be served drinks 20 hours out of the day with music and comfy places to sit and relax....er....wait a minute......nevermind.

So 17.8% of the population smokes. I wonder what happens when that 80% of non-smokers stops going into the casino? It's getting closer to that!

You know I thought it larger than that but did a quick search and saw the same statistic.

Then I tried to search for a percentage of cruisers that smoke as I wondered if that would be a higher percentage but didn't not see anything.

Anyway maybe we can move the casino to the lido deck where there is plenty of air and we can work on our tans while we play the slots[emoji33]

We spend less and less time in the casino because of the smoke.

Carnival thinks they are doing something wonderful by making one area smoke free. Wake up. Smoke travels everywhere.

I hate the smell and the way it makes my clothes smell. Carnival will never wise up because they don't want to offend the smokers.

Maybe once their revenues go down their eyes will open. But that won't happen.

I was thinking the same thing! The other thing that you had to put up when they allowed smoking on the balconies was the possibility of a chain smoker in the cabin beside yours, that sat on the balcony for hours smoking and hacking! Coughing up a lung, hacking, spitting is not something you want to hear when you are trying to enjoy your balcony. I have had to experience that quite a few times, not fun!
