Cruising On The Super Bowl Sunday

Over dinner we were speculating what events and where the viewing options were for the Super Bowl. Specifically we were interested in the Magic, wondered if they would continue with the traditional Welcome Aboard Show or show the game instead.

 

Since it's a late afternoon start would any of the pre-game show be on the big screen on the lido deck?

 

Let me know if you've cruised in recent years and what your experiences were.

We take a cruise every year that coincides with super bowl. Carnival does it the best out of the major cruise lines we have been on. RC and princess were not enjoyable at all. They showed the game everywhere but that was about it. Really missing a lot of opportunity to generate revenue for their bottom lines.

 

But Carnival does it right, lots of decorations, lots of great game day food, tons of drink specials. They even had party favors and were taking photos throughout the party. But being a gambler, I loved the fact that were taking prop bets through the casino as well as offering the super bowl pool squares game.

 

Needless to say we are booked on the Valor leaving the Saturday before super bowl. :)

Super Bowl Sunday

When: February 7, 2016 and*February 5, 2017

 

The game (as well as pre-show) is shown in various locations around the ship. The main venue will be inside the main show lounge and/or on the Lido Deck, at Carnival's Seaside Theatre (featured on select ships).

 

Bar service will be available as well as complimentary snacks throughout the game.

 

VIP Seating Challenge

‘Sailgating’ Games (Ladder Toss, Washer Toss and Bean Bag)

 

EA Sports Bar pool (featured on select ships)

 

NFL Trivia/Prediction Challenge/Sport Challenges

 

Specialty cocktails (named after winning teams)

I was on the Fantasy during the College Football Playoff Semi's, and it was very enjoyable. They had the game on the big screen on Lido, and on every TV at the bar. And a certain bar was the viewing section and had the flags up for all 4 teams. Would love to be on board for the Super Bowl!

Spicy Breaded Chicken Fingers

Tempura Fried Shrimp, Sauce Remoulade

South Western Spring Roll with Salsa

Hot Dog on Bun (Sauerkraut, Relish, Mustard)

 

We are on the Sunshine for the big game. No kitty food ? Big Black Cats just love to feast on Mountain Donkey.

wonder if they will change formal night if not rather watch a good game vs formal night.. lol

 

Our formal night on the Glory also coincided with SuperBowl Sunday. We just found out they are moving formal night to the 8th. Sounds like a plan - no need to waste all those dinners with an empty dining room.

Our Elegant night on the Splendor will also coincide with super bowl. How did you find out they will be changing it? I'd like to know if it will be changed on the Splendor too.

NFL is fixed so what's the point (Vegas and NFL never lose).

 

Even though the Panthers should dominate, Peyton will be allowed to win with the Broncos and retire a winner.

 

And in return, the Patriots and Brady will be allowed to win in next year.

I was on the Dream for it last year. Recommend going directly from muster to Lido to snag a good seat if you plan to watch it on the big screen.

 

Do you know if the casino did anything special for the Super Bowl on embarkation day? I know they do squares and prop bets, but I am thinking they won't be able to with the game starting so soon after embarkation.

Elegant night will be on the second night (first sea day) of our cruise. they never have it on the first night, since a lot of people dont have their luggage yet.

For anyone else on the Conquest, I asked John early this morning about our formal night as well. Conquest's formal night will also be on the 8th.

 

I'm mildly curious to see how many people actually go to standard dinner seatings that night. I'm personally undecided on if we will-I suspect since we are late dining it will depend on how close or good the game is since no one in our group is truly a fan of either team this year.

We will also be on the Conquest and am glad to hear that the first formal night will be on the 8th. I am sure the guys in our group of eight will skip dinner in the dining room if the game is entertaining. We have any time dining so we still have some options.

We were on the Ecstasy in 2014 for the Super Bowl and booked our cruise next year on the Triumph specifically for the Super Bowl again. It was like a big party the last time...the entire cruise. We had a great time. That's why we are doing it all over again.
