How does the NCL CruiseNext Deposit work?

In my experience, it doesn't work like that. If you buy a CruiseNext deposit, you can ask the future cruise rep for a voucher for this casino offer. At the casino when you redeem this voucher, they will give you $125 in slot play credit, for which you only be charged $100 on your onboard account. There is no cash involved for you to take out and put back into your account. They're letting you buy $125 worth of slot play for $100, that's the deal. And then I'm pretty sure you have to play all $125, it has no cash value until you actually risk it (and win).

I don't know if you can get two casino vouchers if you buy 2 deposits, three vouchers if you buy 3 deposits, etc. I think it may be a one time deal, once per person per cruise.

I didn't know buying a Cruise Next deposit had any connection to getting $ 125.00 for slot play. I thought they charged you $ 250.00 and credited $ 100.00 to your on board acct so in reality you only pay $ 150.00 for the Cruise Next. Someone please explain this casino offer and where you saw it?

I got it from cruise consultant on board. You tell her you want the casino cash option. She gives you a form and you take to the casino. $250 is charged to your on board account for the Fcc but you have $125 in casino cash to play. if you plan on spending $100 in the casino anyways it's a good deal because essentially it's an extra $25 above the obc they normally would give you. I hit a hand pay on my last $2, but just have easily been my last $2 of "free" play. I made sure to tell my cruise consultant about the happy ending.

And important to note you can only use one certificate per cruise per stateroom...so if you buy four you have go on four cruises..or have four staterooms....or transfer them to someone else...or any combo of that.

True.

However they are running a promo where you can use 2 certificates for one cabin, for cruises sailing upto April 16. ( I am not sure of the dates.)

If I book a specific cruise while onboard, how much do I need to put as a deposit? Just $250, or $750 as usual?

The reason I'm concerned is that, despite having good credit and a lifetime relationship with Bank of America, I only have a $1,000 limit on my NCL MasterCard. If they pull the entire $750, I don't have much left on the limit - unless they can run it as soon as I book, and then I can move money over.

The certificate is all that is needed for the deposit of a future cruise.

One of the big reasons people buy it - reduced deposit.

My next thought is : You really should be getting a few more credit cards. There are great signup bonuses and traveling with such a limited line of credit is risky.

By the way, do you know that if you use most of that $1000 line of credit at any given time, your credit score will drop. But, if you had a $5000 balance on a $10,000 card it would be just fine.

You could call and ask them to raise it, but I would suggest getting another card and hope it comes with a higher limit.

Thanks! I have $26K in credit on 4 other cards, so I'm good. We had to rebook our cruise because my daughter had to be in nursing school orientation the week we originally booked. They refunded our original fare to the card the next week, but I had to pay for the new cruise the next business day. I asked for an increase to pay for the new dates, but they declined, citing problems that date back to the recession. We've had a perfect record the past three years. I have let Bank of America know how I feel.

I have been using the CruiseNext Deposits for some time. I really like them. They are very easy to redeem and if you cancel, get reinstated (basically your CruiseNext Deposit gets put back on your account within a few days). You can see them on your Lattitudes account lookup and your travel agent can access them pretty easily (my travel agent actually comments that they are a really good deal and that more people should take advantage of these). Basically, I buy two at a time (personal choice).....then use them and buy two more and so on. Also, no matter how many guests are in a cabin and what type of cabin you reserve (I have used them on solos up to balcony), your $250 CruiseNext Deposit covers your reservation without the need to pay additional fees to book. You can use more than one for the same cruise only if you are booking multiple cabins or you get some promotion which allows two when you book a higher level cabin like the Haven. Other than that, its one Deposit for each cabin you book. Also, I don't believe you can use them on cruises that are less than 7 days. I know they work for cruises 7 days or longer. They are good for three years. You are still eligible for whatever promotions and OBC are being offered at the time you actually book. I recommend them to anyone that believes they may cruise on NCL for the next three years (we generally take at least one a year) as a good value.

Thank you so much! So helpful. I think I will just buy one this time, since it's just my husband and me on the next cruise. Although I suppose it would not hurt to have one for a spur of the moment idea.

Recently, I was on the Jade and they offered even more credit if you booked the new cruise while on the Jade. Maybe that will be offered in March. You cannot use the certificate if you already booked the cruise, must be used at time of booking. I plan on knowing what cruise I want to do next time I cruise so I can book my new cruise while at sea.

This is a bit misleading. Some Cruise Consultants try to get you to book your cruise on the ship telling you that you get a better benefit. This is not correct. You can get the same benefits at home that you can on the ship. Its just a hard sell technique so the Cruise Consultant gets the credit for booking your cruise (although mine told me a TA I assigned could also get credit). Basically, they are sales persons and they want to sell you a cruise.

I keep a few on hand and replenish them when I get low. I just used a CruiseNext Deposit for a last minute booking for the 11th of June on a discounted guarantee cabin. Worked perfectly. I was within the 90 day payment window, so I applied one CruiseNext Deposit and paid the balance on the cabin at once. Just wanted everyone to know, the CruiseNext Deposit still works as payment for last minute bookings when you are within the payment in full window.

I planned to use two Cruise Next certs on a free CAS casino offer (Star Dec 2017) but found out there were no more free cabins available on the sailing. So I picked out a sailing in October - that's when I found out that TWO Cruise Next certs can only be used on a sailing more than six months in advance. It's ok, I still plan to use the cert.

I also was told (per current promo) that two Cruise Next certs can only be used if purchased before April 15th. I only have four cruises under by belt but I love those Cruise Next certs.

I just posted this on NCL's Facebook account. I can't get anywhere w a supervisor or the representative, as they can only go by what they're told. Has anyone had this issue about the CruiseNext vouchers?

----------

How often does the CruiseNext voucher/credit program change? When I bought my vouchers (9/20/16) I was told I could use two credit vouchers (one per person) until the end of 2017 on any cruise 7 days or longer. I have since used six (6) credit vouchers on three other cruises, no problem. Today I try to book a cruise for 11/2017 and am told I can't use two because the program has changed. (WHAT??) This doesn't sit well when you're sold a bill of goods and they change the program. How about if you "grandfather" the passengers that purchased during said promotion? Why would anyone purchase these CruiseNext vouchers when the rules change and therefore cannot qualify for the new program ie: cruise out of NY only; purchase a balcony or higher only, etc. As a soon-to-be Platinum member, I expect you abide by your polices and stand by your word. How is this okay, NCL?

So am I understanding this......

I am sailing in October with my family. I have been chatting with girlfriends about planning a "Girls Cruise" on the Sky next year for an all-inclusive weekend. If I buy CruiseNext certificates while with my family, I can transfer them to the four cabins I will probably book with my girlfriends? If I think I will get four cabins, I should buy four certificates? Is that the best plan?

Then, if I think I will spend $100 in the casino, I can up that by using the credit? Just for slots... or are games included? Can I share my casino credit with my DH?

ETA: Just read in the Terms about CruiseNext Lite for sailings under 6 days. What's the deal with those? NCL website doesn't seem to say much.

Historically, these have been one per cabin.

Also fully transferable to other people.

They have run promo's saying you can use two of them. No idea if they give you something that outlines that promo, or how then know which is which.

As to buying 4 for your friends - think through it. You can do it. But, if the cruise never happens, what will you do with them? And, will you be paying for them and when will your friends pay you back?

If the CruiseNext Haven & Suite certificates are in increments of $500 but the OBC remains the same as the standard CruiseNext, why would anyone buy the Haven ones? I was told by NCL, on the phone so in hindsight I have zero proof or ability to force the issue but they said both the standard and Haven certificates can be used on Haven suites.

Someone here posted that these certificates can only be used for future cruses not yet booked but NCL stated a certificate I buy next month could be applied to a March 2018 cruise already booked, just not paid in full.

CruiseNext certificates serve two purposes - to cover the minimum deposit required for the room and to reduce the amount due at final payment. Standard certificates cover the deposit for mini-suite and lower rooms and give a $250 credit towards final payment, while Haven & Suite certificates cover the deposit for suite and above rooms and give a $500 credit towards final payment. You can apply standard certificates towards suites, but in these cases you would be responsible for paying the difference between the $250 credit and minimum deposit out of pocket. Minimum deposits vary based on category of room and what promotions they have ongoing.

↑ Either way, the $ has to be paid so if I do it now or 4 months from now, matters not.

My only observation was that if I didn't want to lay out the extra $1000 for the Haven certificates yet I still wanted the OBC of $500

I would just buy the standard ones. That way I'm only really "out" the $500 right away and the $250 each certificate takes off is basically

the port fee and tax for one guest.

Please clarify how this works:

1. I wish to purchase a single, standard, $250 certificate. Which is correct?

A. I pay $250, receive a $250 "gift certificate" for a future voyage and also receive $100 non-refundable credit which I must use on that present voyage.

B. Same as A., except that I can use the $100 non-refundable credit either on that present voyage or on the future voyage.

C. I can use the $100 credit to offset the purchase of the $250 certificate so that I need only pay $150 for the $250 "gift certificate."

I hope that "C" is the correct answer. I will have $50 in non-refundable credit on the present voyage. I would like to combine that $50 credit, and the $100 of non-refundable credit which accompanies the certificate. Therefore, I would like to pay $100 (have a $100 charge added to my present voyage bill) and receive a $250 "gift certificate" which I may use on a future voyage within four years. May I do this?

My apologies for starting on this awesome forum with a question. Unfortunately, I have nothing to contribute yet. Despite traveling quite extensively, I'm about to go on the first real cruise in my life.

So here is the question. We've booked two cabins for me and my mother on Breakaway next month. At the time of booking I knew nothing about these CruiseNext certificates. Now, I can see there are people selling them at a discount. I reached out to one seller, here is what he said.

Even if you paid they will refund you 500$ on the same credit card you use to buy cruise or/and you can also use towards the onboard credit. 5 minutes to transfer. Call Norwegian. Easy and quick.

Is it true and they will really apply the certificate as a credit or OBC to the already booked cruise? The T&C says "A CruiseNext Deposit can only be applied to a new reservation and otherwise has no cash value and is not redeemable or exchangeable for cash"

Thanks!
