How does the NCL CruiseNext Deposit work?

Yes , C is correct . We just did this on the Dawn and I filled out the form and went to the cruise next office with it and actually ended up doing something different. They offered us 4 cruise next credits if we purchased 2. So we spent a total off $500 for 2 deposits and were given 2 extra deposits. This way you get double your money, only downside is you do not get the smaller $125 credit for each of your 2 deposits put into your onboard account.

Sorry- you simply bought 4 certificates, with the SAME per deposit value AND cost, of every one bought, 2 or more.

Only a single purchase has a different paid cost to you, $150, vs PAYING $125 for anything more.

Being your COST is more than your "CREDIT", you still are going to OWE money to pay for them. Reason why you NEVER have to purchase anything further.

I in fact use any other "credits" I get (stockholder, agent etc) to purchase Cruise Next Deposits, even a better deal!!!!!

Just and observation on this - my travel agent (maybe only them?) insists on reducing the value of a cruise next certificate by the value reduction of their commission e.g. if they got 10% commission, then by giving them a 250 certificate they would lose 25 commission so only give me credit of 225. If that makes sense!

That is so so wrong. You should get a new travel agent. Have used the certificates for years and that has never been done by our travel agent.

Thanks, I'll have it out with them! And I found an NCL document online for travel agents which specifically states that certificates don't affect commission.

I buy CruiseNext credits all the time and have never had an issue with my travel agent using them. In fact, I have booked on the ship and given my travel agents name and she got credit as if she booked it. Don't use any agent that wants to make their own rules is my advice.

I honestly wouldn't buy them if you are busy. I bought 2 and I cannot book anything since my schedule is all messy. just food for thought

So, basically, you are saying that if you don’t have time to take a holiday then you wouldn’t advise buying a voucher for a holiday deposit. :)

I'll be sailing on the bliss begining of June this year (2018). Could i Buy a cruise certificate and use it for the new ship coming in 2022? Right now it says its planning to sail June 2022 however the actual sail date could be after 4 years, but I would book the reservation in 3 years.

Terms and conditions says in one spot make reservation within 4 years, and then the next sentence says redeem AND sail within 4 years. Or is this too much of a risky move for a cruise ship thats so far out?

8. All CruiseNext Deposits are valid for new reservations made within 4 years from the date of purchase, and become null and void after expiration. Failure to redeem and sail within 4 years will result in forfeiture CruiseNext Deposit.

I have the same question as above. I agree the wording here is confusing. First sentence reads as if the certificates are valid as long as a booking is made within 4 years of purchase but next sentence says booking and sailing within 4 years.

Before I call NCL to confirm, does anyone here know?

I have two that I bought last year but am unsure if I'll be able to cruise NCL within the 4 year period. I would be able to use them however if we can book outside that period as I'm looking at 2021.

Thanks!

It's book and sail before the expiration date. You can always ask them to bend the rules for you, and in my experience the CruiseNext people are pretty accommodating. But I would be concerned that if they let you use your certificate to book a cruise that sails after the expiration date, your deposit becomes basically non-refundable. As long as you're OK with that, they might be willing to work with you.

Great. Thanks for your insights. I might just give them a call and see what they say. I would prefer to use them rather than let them lapse or try to sell them, which would require a lot of trust on both sides to do successfully I'd imagine.

Here's an issue you're going to run into though... You just bought them last year, so you have over 3 years until they expire. So right now, since you are planning to sail over 4 years from now, you can't book anything. So even if the person on the phone tells you, "Yeah, you can use them as long as you book within 4 years, but you can sail beyond that", you can't book anything yet. Meaning several years down the road, you are going to have to call again and have this same conversation. What the person tells you now will have no impact on what they tell you then.

I hope I've made sense. If not, sorry.

Yeah I hear ya LrgPizza.

I really wanted to use them to go to Europe this spring but their price point was just *so* much higher than the sale I got with RCI that I couldn't justify booking with NCL, cruisenext voucher notwithstanding.

I have a Carnival cruise booked for March 2019 that was chosen exclusively for the itinerary since it goes to Aruba and Curacao in 8 nights out of Florida- an itinerary that NCL simply doesn't do (doing this over the school break so as not to be overly disruptive for our four kiddos).

I might dump the Carnival trip in order to try to use these certificates to cruise either December 2019 or December 2020 (when they expire) and do the same old western or eastern route. Just waiting now for the itineraries to open up to make some decisions...

My parents bought one of these for us on ebay- unfortunately they didn't realize we had already paid in full for the cabin. Someone else said it will show as a credit on my on board account and I can apply it toward other expenses on the upcoming cruise. Eek - I will feel horrible if I can't use this because we may not go again within the time frame. Any insight on this

Do you have update on what were you able to do? I am in similar situation so any information is appreciated.

So I am going on a TA on the Pearl in April 2019. I want to go on another 15 night TA in April 2020 on the Getaway.  Should I book on the Pearl? How many certificates can I buy and apply them to the Pearl. My Onboard bill on the Pearl will basically be excursions. Expensive ones. I am having a difficult time figuring all this out.  TIA

Yes, you used to be able to combine two certificates into a suite deposit but they changed that in 2016.

I just recently received an email saying I could use 2 certificates for a category Balcony or higher with a cruise that is 6 months in the future.

Dated: Nov. 13, 2018

For a limited time, Norwegian Cruise Line is excited to announce a brand new offer and I thought of you first - CruiseNext Double Rewards.

Now you can apply TWO Cruise Rewards or CruiseNext deposits to your next cruise when you book a balcony stateroom or above on cruises more than 6 months out.*

Best of all, this offer is combinable with Norwegian’s Free At Sea promotion where you can take advantage of up to 5 Free Offers!

I believe (if I understand everything correctly) you can use 1 certificate if you are in an inside or oceanview room.  You can use TWO (2) certificates (for a limited time from the sound of the email I received) if you are in a Balcony or above.

I think the certificates are applied to the cost of your cruise.  Because when you sign up for excursions, don't you pay for them upfront ... even if you have a pending cruise balance ?

p.s.  I am booked on the Pearl TA 04/28/2019 also.  I used 1 certificate because I am in an inside gty. cabin.

When you are on board and you buy a cruisenext certificate, you get on board credit for the cruise you are on. When you put a deposit on a future cruise you use your certificate (sometimes 2 can be used if the special promotion is going). If you are on a cruise in early 2019, the TA itinerary may not be available to book for 2020 (I tried to book a spring 2020 TA cruise and it wasn't available in 11/2018 as they had not published it yet). You can get extra perks if you book a cruise while you are on a cruise. The certificates can be transferred to family members (and others) too, which is why you can buy them on e-bay, but they must be used when you put down your deposit, not after you have already booked the cruise.

This is correct, but I find it funny that they are presenting it as a "brand new offer" when it has been ongoing for over a year now.

You receive a $250 credit per certificate towards the amount due at final payment, and counts as your deposit for mini-suites & below or reduces your required deposit by the credit amount for suites & Haven.

Hysterical to me that they are acting like this is new. It's been this way for a couple of years at least, from what I understand. Plus, the current promo is actually that you can use two certificates on a balcony or above on ANY 7+ day sailing, whether it is 6 months out or not. This promo has been running since at least July:

DOUBLEUP!
Use up to 2 CruiseNext deposits when you book a Balcony or higher category. This promotion is applicable to all open reservations booked by November 30, 2018.

Forgive me if I missed it somewhere in here, but...

If I have a cruise currently booked for the Encore in December of 2019 and I buy 2 Cruise Next Certs on the Bliss in December of 2018. Can I apply those certs to my current booking without having to "rebook"?I couldn't find it in this thread so I figured it might be easier to ask...

I believe you can as long as you do so prior to final payment.

Yes. You just wouldn't be able to double-up and use two certificates at once on a balcony or above at only 3 weeks out unless the promotion to double up at any time was going on.

Edit: The Double-up promotion is currently going on for balconies and above on any sailing booked by Dec. 31.

This is actually not correct, they also told me that while on board ship but when I got home and went to make final payment for my next cruise I was able to apply the certificate as a payment method along with a credit card for the balance.

I was 3 months from sailing at the time and had paid the deposit 6 months earlier.

Just got off the pearl this last Sunday but while on board did the following, we  bought 8 - $250.00 cruise next cert. , they charged the account $2000 then gave $1000 in on board credit to account (leaves account with a $1000 owed balance after the credits are applied ). Then signed up for a 7 day cruise in a balcony next June. The benefit for signing up for another cruise while onboard is you get the top category at the lowest category price for the type you are reserving, this does not include "sailaway" rates. so we get a mid ship balcony for the forward or rear price and got to use two certificates for our deposit. Cruise Next stated that ANY RESERVATION WITH A BALANCE can use one per stateroom.

We are sailing with roughly 20 other "couples" so we will end up transferring the other 6 certificates to the first six that give us the $125.00. and they will get $250.00 off their cruise for the $125.00. Realistically we end up potentially saving $650.00 roughly , the 250 from the cruisenext and roughly the 200 each for mid balcony upgrade from rear or forward price.

Generally the Boston to Bermuda sells out during summer months out so seldom see any price drops, if anything they generally creep up in price as sail date gets closer.

We also got all the "free " packages (except double latitude points) where as the other couples that signed up online are only getting choice of two "freebies" Not sure if that was a benefit of signing up onboard or a latitude rewards benefit though. Wish I had known about the casino voucher for 25 extra  missed that one.

On another note,

this was approaching the Gatun locks, the rowboat beat us in line lol

The Pearl drops down a line which they bring to the shore where the mule(electric locomotives) attaches their 1"steel cable for ship to pull up and attach to the ships cleats.
