First time Celebrity cruiser

This will be our first time on Celebrity (Constellation). Our first two times were on RC Freedom of the seas. Can anyone explain the difference we will notice? For example I just read that Celebrity has a dress code. So jeans aren't allowed at any time? What about deck shoes with shorts. Does Celebrity have an eating area that is buffet/cafeteria style for eating? RC has the WindJammer. Hope we didn't make a mistake booking this cruise. We aren't the fancy shmancy type people. We don't mind dressing for dinner but like to be in shorts and sundresses for daytime.

Thank You, Tammy

Short and sundresses fine for during the day. Can even put on an coverup over bathing suit for the Oceanview cafe. They also have great burgers, etc outside on the pool deck. You just can't wear shorts in the MDR for dinner. Enjoy!

Here's the dress code. As you'll see, jeans are fine for casual evenings and designer jeans are ok for "Chic" evenings:

What is the onboard dress code?

Formal Night gets a modern luxury reboot. Say goodbye to Formal Night, and hello to Evening Chic. It’s your time to shine—your way. Get glamorous. Get chic. Be sophisticated. Now, on up to two nights on every cruise, Evening Chic activities have been introduced, and Evening Chic attire has replaced Formal attire. While dressier than Smart Casual, Evening Chic is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire.

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

• A cocktail dress

• Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

• Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater

• Optional sport coat or blazer

Evening Chic means that you can get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you would like to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you absolutely should.

All cruises that are 7 nights or longer will feature two Evening Chic nights. Any cruise 6-nights or shorter will feature one Evening Chic night. All other nights of the cruise will feature Smart Casual attire. Celebrity Xpedition will continue to feature casual attire for the entire cruise.

Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise.

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

• Skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

• Pants or jeans with a sport shirt that has sleeves

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours. The dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening.

As for buffets, that is one of many choices for dining. Explore other options here:

Enjoy your cruise!

The buffet on X is the Oceanview. Depending on the ship you are on, it might not be as extensive as what you are used to on RCI; however, it has some awesome additions.

There are made-to-order waffles in the morning and made-to-order sandwiches at lunch.

At breakfast, there is an eggs Benedict station with several interesting variations.

Around 5pm, they do a very nice selection of sushi.

As someone else mentioned, the pool grill does yummy burgers and hot dogs. Nothing like getting one hot off the grill. The pool area also has the aqua spa cafe, which has lots of fresh offerings. The Cafe Bacio has free pastries and treats.

During the day, people will be dressed like you would see people on RCI. At night, they might be a little more dressed up, but there will be a wide range.

Relax and enjoy your cruise!

and two other items: 1- fresh made pizza in the buffet as opposed to the cafe promenade on RCI.. and it is a lot better on X... 2- all of the ice cream served onboard is made fresh onboard, flavors vary

Others have already answered most of your questions. As cruisers who have done both Freedom and X M class we think the biggest differences you will notice will be in activities, service and volume level....

Much less to do on Celebrity in terms of shows and organised activities. No constant information being broadcast. Low key activities such as trivia, peace, quiet, rest and relaxation.....This is not a negative to Celebrity it is simply showing the different ambience to expect on each ship...on X there is no flow rider to ride or watch people fall off, no crazy golf to conquer or ice show to peruse...But there is that peace, quiet, rest and relaxation....

We do find service much better on Celebrity than Royal...and that is generally across the board...MDR to bars..

You are going from quite a large RC ship to quite a small and older X ship so do some homework, find out about the speciality restaurants and the layout and you will enjoy. Do not get on Connie expecting 'Big' or you will be disappointed.

Personally given the option of Freedom or Connie I would choose Connie every time for that R and R feel. However, if you want activities on board Freedom would win every time.

Dress code on Celebrity - Wasn't aware they enforced anything. Have been wearing a sports coat and black jeans in MDR for years. Nobody cares what you wear during the days except swinsuits are tacky in the restaurant areas.

Buffet far more extensive on X with lots of cooked to order choices. We would often walk out of the buffet on RCL and shake our heads.

as to the rest there are about 2100 passengers on Connie. Much smaller and it is quieter with announcement only regularly one time a day. Relaxing.
