Is Thermal Suite Pass Worth it?

We are traveling next month on the Getaway with our young children (3 and 5). This is the first cruise for any of us. As much as I love my family I definitely need alone time to relax and get some quiet and peace of mind.

I was thinking of getting myself the weekly pass to use the Thermal suite but i don't want to drop almost $200 if it's going to an environment that is loud and not relaxing. I know the pass doesn't include additional services (massages, etc). My husband definitely doesn't need something like this so it would be just me purchasing.

Thoughts?

I noticed your other thread about being in an inside with a family of four. This would help with the crowding because while you are at the spa you could shower and get ready. The showers are usually more spacious than cabin showers.

When DH and I cruise we always get the spa package but I will tell you that on some of the older ships it can be kind of a letdown from the newer ships - more facilities, heated loungers, etc.

DH generally showers there and I use the cabin as we also get insides most times to save money for other things. We cruise a lot so we have been to most of the ports many times and sometimes do not get off the ship.

I to, am irritated by the people who get in the thermal pool or the loungers and scream at each other to be heard over the sounds of the rushing water. It is clearly identified as a quiet zone. I have never complained but ear plugs or a visit to the front desk will be in my mind on my next cruise.

There are plenty of white towels to make yourself comfortable as well as robes to use in the spa. Most people either read or nap or just relax. There are plenty of showers, changing facilities, hair dryers, etc. in the separate male or female areas. There also may be hot tubs in the male or female area but the therapy pool is unisex.

We generally go to the therapy pool first, then the heated loungers, then the regular loungers to read. DH especially spends a lot of time there (while I am in the casino, lol).

We've also been debating this pass, but I was wondering if you can just get a daily or single use pass? If so, does anyone know the price? I didn't see it online to book in advance if there is. It would be nice to use, but with only 2 sea days (and plans to get off the ship in every port), I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Thanks y'all :)

If you want to pre purchase the pass for the Thermal Spa then you would have to purchase it for the entire length of the sailing. Once onbaord you woud be able to purchase passes by the day.

Yes, you can buy a single day or mulit-day passes to the spa. Since the rates are subject to change and vary depending on the ship. NCL doesn't publish the spa rates online.

Thank you, luckyinpa.

Has anyone that has sailed on the Getaway recently purchased single passes and can tell me the price? Or any ship for that matter...I understand they change and vary ship to ship, but it would at least give me a price estimate. Thanks!

One day passes are not always available. It depends on if the weekly passes are sold out.

Unless it has changed, 179.00 under your reservation and 199pp onboard. ;)

Maybe a totally dumb question but what do you wear in the spa if you have the spa pass? I assume a swimsuit?

and what do you wear from deck 14 spa rooms up to the spa? :) i'm pretty sure walking around in just swimsuit is not what they have in mind. or even a robe lol

Here's the thing, it's a relaxation area. If people are being loud, tell the staff, and they will tell the people to quiet down.

It's literally the only place on the ship that enforces quiet and relaxation.

You might get a stink eye if you talk to the staff about loud passengers, but that's a small price to pay for peace and quiet.

How to get your money's worth with a spa pass:

On a sea day, I would head down to the spa early in the morning, after sunrise and breakfast. Heated tile lounger if it's available, or the thess pool if it isn't. Sometimes I would alternate between the two, and then shower/dress for lunch. I would head back in the late afternoon before dinner to alternate between the sauna/steam room, and then lie in the forward facing chairs to watch the sunset.

On port days, I would go straight to the spa after getting back on the ship. The time in the thess pool and the tile loungers seemed to recharge me from the day of exploring/beach/shopping, etc. The larger showers in the changing rooms are wonderful, and it gave my husband the cabin and bathroom all to himself. After dinner, we'd go to the spa together late at night.

These trips weren't more than 30 minutes to an hour, but they were always the highlight of my day. I am not a "party by the pool" type of person. I cruise to relax, and loud music/screaming kids/obnoxious drunks aren't my style. The spa is the only place on the ship to get away from it all. Even the library had a large group playing card games and dominos, so it was a challenge to find a quiet spot.

The pass is expensive, but I viewed it as an excursion since it was similar in price. It was the best "excursion" I have ever paid for.

Now, I was on the 10-day Gem out of NYC, with 6 days at sea, so I had plenty of days to use the spa. For this 7-day that we're going on in two weeks, I am waffling on whether to by the passes. I know that I want to, but I also want to spend that $$ on Little French Key.

Decisions, decisions.

How late is it open? This is sounding better and better! What a nice way to end a night!

Hi! reading lots lof helpful posts that a weeks thermal pass cost if booked online in advance of embark is $179. Does anybody know the cost of a pass for 14 day cruise? This answer will help me decide if I need to upgrade my cabin to a spa balcony.

thanks!

If anyone was in the SPA thermal suites - during EPIC's FALL TA cruise of 2014 - when three VERY LOUD men - during that wonderful 4.30pmish forty winks moments - proceeded to shout to one another a full conversation and one in particular was so loud, ladies around me almost cried. People tossed and turned - When one poor lady finally gave up her coveted heated tile lounger and left - enough was enough..

My husband knew what was coming. He could sense my body language so well - he slowly crawled under the towels and hid (coward!)...

SO - if anyone wonders who the wee Scots wummin was - that took it upon herself - to stand up on the lounger - amidst around 150+ TryingToRelax resting souls - and scream back "HOI YOU" "YES YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!!" "WITH THE FOG HORN" "WERE YOU BORN WITH THAT OR DID YOU HAVE IT SURGICALLY IMPLANTED" -

SHUTTTTTTTTTTTTT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

and then... for two weeks .... there was peace - there was kaching spa sounds, there were waves, there was tinkling water... there was no longer one VERY VERY VERY Loud Foghorn....

well - that wee wummin - was proudly me...

Aye - cannae mess wi' a Scotswoman during 40 winks time - we need our energy for partying!

I just added the thermal pass for Jade 14 nights - its not a great SPA by any manner of means - but at least has a very small thallostherapy pool and tiled loungers in the co-ed plus individual saunas etc in single sex areas. Even being limited facilities - I was more than happy to buy the online pass. Be warned you need to be quick. I was charged £131 GBP - pp. (14 nights) They go on sale 100 days before for suite guests - 90 days for others. Midnight USA time 90 days, I got up crack of dawn to buy - the ten days beforehand it showed as "These passes are no longer available for sale" - that is the message shown between 100 days and 90 days. At 90 days - I kept refreshing the page around 5am (our time) and bang - got them - they sold out pretty quickly....

We prefer an actual SPA cabin - had a SPA mini on Epic and loved it - have a SPA balcony on Getaway - Jade has no spa rooms so a pass it was.

Hope this helps.

It is open until 10. :)

is it fair to say on a 4pm sunday cruise that you really cannot use the spa on that day? all the talk of tours etc made me wonder. how long is the spa open to the public to 'tour' and when is the raffle held?

When I bought our passes during sail away, many passengers were already using it.

It usually opens after the muster drill, so you have several hours to use the spa that evening. They may continue bringing people through to tour the area, but the facilities should be fully operational for spa pass holders.

They don't do the raffle in the thermal suite, and I'm not sure if any of the prizes involve the thermal suite. Just spa treatments.

ah this is good info to know. sounds like the public at large just cannot be walking through the thermal. which is what i envisioned.

wouldnt mind winning a massage at the regular spa but unsure i want to put the time into a tour and return visit.
