Past cruisers...do you ever....

I feel like any escape from work and the norm is the way to go...I choose cruising because I love it, I love the casino...we've done land based casinos...I can cruise for close to free and pay the same amount I would've lost in the casino for 4-5 days. I get more out of it. I love waking up , having someone else doing the cooking and cleaning. I love the same ports over and over because if you look hard enough you can find something new and exciting each time. I do the Stingray city tour over and over because I just simply love it. In Coz I I love using the same tour company for different excursions. On board I bypass all the picture opportunities, I love to look at the art but I never buy it, I like to take in a show or see a comedian once in awhile...stretch out on the Serenity deck if I can find a spot and just chill. If I could just win the Powerball I'd probably live onboard :)

We have only been on three cruises, all Carnival, all out of Galveston (Triump 5 day x 1, Magic 7 day x 2).

Since the last two on the Magic had the full Cloud 9 Spa, I wasn't bored. My wife was bored by the end of each one mostly due to the two sea-days to end the cruise. The kids...had a good time right up to the end.

However, the "process" of cruising (the booking, reserving parking, packing, the 3.5 hour drive, going through security/check-in, the schlepping off and on the ship at each port like a sheeple) became routine in a hurry. We cruised 3 years in a row, the last in 2014. We have booked the Breeze this June, but will likely be canceling within the week...and that does not make me all that sad.

All that said, I know if we had cruised last year and were going again this year that it would progress beyond the routine to the mundane...and then why bother? We like cruising, but we also like land vacations. I also like "stay-cations" where I will golf once a day for a week at my top 5 local golf courses (my wife...not much a fan of the last!).

Cruising is the only way we vacation. My kids are so spoiled now by it, that if I even suggest doing a vacation of staying at 1 place the whole week, where we stay at a hotel, and don't see other countries or islands, they don't even want to go, saying how bored they would be. Haha!! I try to pick ones that go to different ports, but personally I don't care which ports we go to so long as I can relax.

I do sometimes. I need to learn to relax. This is when I read a book or take a nap. Sometimes it's good to be bored!

This. On our cruise on the Breeze, we spent every sea day on the Lanai deck, sunning, listen to some music (quietly as to not disturb others) and chatting with neighbors. We ended up there because the Lido deck was way too packed but ended up really liking it. It was the most relaxing cruise we've ever had.

We have a very c'est la vie cruise attitude. If we want to just relax on the balcony, or deck, we do. If we want to go and do something, we do. If we want to go to bed ridiculously early or stay out late, we do. Releasing the pressure of having to do all the things just because they're available really helps! Just chillax a bit. You might like it! :D

We vary our cruises which keeps things interesting...We choose our cruises based on the ports and/or the ship itself. This year we are going to try a Windjammer type cruise and are also going back to Carnival, hoping for more of a FUN time on the ship and not too concerned about the ports.

One mistake we made was to cruise on the same ship (Celebrity Equinox) two years in a row. We had wonderful service and food and although we visited different ports the second year, the activities, bars, shows, etc. on the same ship did seem repetitive.

We considered switching to a Caribbean all-inclusive resort this year, but since we live in Florida we are able to enjoy nice weather often. Think we would be bored sitting on a beach most of the day.

LOL! I am sure some of my issue is anxiety! I am a single Mom, with a booming business, a large home with no help there and an active social life. And on top of that, you would think someone that just spent the last few years in chemo off and on and would know how to slow down and nap! BUT NOT ME! But really THAT isn't the question....

I am sure that SOME of it is having cruised enough to be at top tier status, which isn't important to me, but tells you at least how many days at sea I have..... but also that I think it may be the lack of changing the events up and making them not the same as they were 10 years ago! I love to take newbies and truly enjoy watching them experience it the first time. If you look back at Fun Times from two years ago it is almost the same as today or even 5 years ago! Try it!

My question was just out of curiosity as to how everyone else can unwind and find that happy medium.

I am interested as well. I also LOVE to take newbies because it's almost like experiencing it yourself for the first time again through their eyes. And every cruise I vow to slow things down, not try and do EVERYTHING and rush from here to there, but it never works. I always end up wanting to cram in as much as possible every time! lol

I don't do any shipboard activities, never go to shows, don't gamble and basically go on the ship to completely relax and do as little as possible. I do get off in most ports but even with that, it's usually a relaxing day at the beach or at a pool at a resort.

I used to do a lot more. But it kept feeling like I'd wear myself out and need a vacation from my vacation. Or I'd come home and get sick from exhausting myself.

So these days my s&s tab at the end of a cruise usually amounts to a wine package, couple steakhouse dinners and maybe a dozen bar drinks from Alchemy.

I leave the cruise relaxed and looking forward to the next cruise that others may consider the most boring trip ever.

I like to characterize the vacation as living like a cat for a couple weeks. Where else can you get away with sleeping 16 hours, get up, take a shower, get some cocktails, eat dinner and then go back to bed?

So bored? I will never call sitting on a balcony staring out at the water for 5 hours as boring.

Funny how some say that they are never in their cabins anyway. We spend a lot of time in the cabin and I am usually on the balcony with a book. We don't do shows either and never go to the clubs.

Not yet! We enjoy new people, new ports and experiences. The good thing is we are not so hard to please, don't ask for much. If anything specific on the particular ship annoys us, we just go do something else.

We only cruise about every 3-4 years. My DH loves ruins, so we tend to go places that have them. This is our first time on

Carnival as we normally do RCI. This coming trip is to Alaska and my #2 son, daughter in law, granddaughter and the other grandparents are going. So we will have to work hard at being bored. :D

Bored? No! Even if all of my fellow guests were those whom I disliked and none of the activities appealed to me, the endless fascination of watching the changing sea and sky would be enough to keep me well satisfied.

I'm on the balcony with a book as much as I can stand the heat (aft extended). But what amazes me is how few people are on their balconies. Unless they're like me with the chairs pushed back and not leaning on the rail so you can see them.

Sometimes I feel a little bored simply because I'm not interested in some of the game shows, hairy chest contest, etc. However, I just grab my ipad and read or work jigsaw puzzles or talk with my friends. I don't have to be doing something all the time. I just enjoy being on the ocean in the sunshine.
