Past cruisers...do you ever....

After so many cruises, do you ever find yourself a little bored?

Though all good answers and good to hear again, I know that a lot will answer that there is so much to do. I know that many will answer no because they love cruising so much and they aren't home. And I know that some will answer that there is sun and fresh air, etc.

I personally find a lot of the activities a little silly but still LOVE it, even if I am a little at loose ends at times! What I NEED to do is relax more! I find myself walking around a LOT! My goal this cruise is to sit back and relax more and catch up on some naps! Something I NEVER do! I guess it is hard to wind down when you go so fast a furious....

Tell me how it is for you????!!!!! Or if you can identify with what I am talking about!

When I was able to predict what the CD was going to say (and they all say the same spiel), I knew it was time to try another cruise line.

I don't do any shipboard activities, never go to shows, don't gamble and basically go on the ship to completely relax and do as little as possible. I do get off in most ports but even with that, it's usually a relaxing day at the beach or at a pool at a resort.

I used to do a lot more. But it kept feeling like I'd wear myself out and need a vacation from my vacation. Or I'd come home and get sick from exhausting myself.

So these days my s&s tab at the end of a cruise usually amounts to a wine package, couple steakhouse dinners and maybe a dozen bar drinks from Alchemy.

I leave the cruise relaxed and looking forward to the next cruise that others may consider the most boring trip ever.

I like to characterize the vacation as living like a cat for a couple weeks. Where else can you get away with sleeping 16 hours, get up, take a shower, get some cocktails, eat dinner and then go back to bed?

So bored? I will never call sitting on a balcony staring out at the water for 5 hours as boring.

At home we can read, watch movies, etc. whenever we wish so on ships we do like to be entertained.

Fortunately, we also really enjoy sitting AT a bar on a barstool and chatting with others so we're never bored. :)

That's funny! I still find the jokes about eating on the cruise, the flush noise, cabin size funny even if it is trite.

I only get bored on excursions when they do such dumb things. In Roatan even if you don't want to go see the monkeys they take you there because the boss lives there and they have to pay him the proceeds of the day. Boring. On another in Belize I had been through a cave on a previous trip so I didn't go in again. I watched the people prepare lunch and it was all up. I was hungry but no one asked if I wanted to eat so I sat there waiting a long time for the cave expedition end. Finally got to eat and they said "why didn't you get it when you were sitting here?" Next time I'll ask.

People watching is fun. Sitting in the atrium listening to what people say to GS can be entertaining. (Don't tell them or they'll charge an excursion fee!)

We have been striving to perfect the "art of doing nothing" and seem to be making progress! :p

While we still do the occasional trivia and attend most of the evening shows, we are content to spend most of our time on board relaxing and just enjoying being at sea together. Aaaaaaaahhhhhh...........

Now in port, we still are pretty go, go, go as we like to make the most of our time when in a different country. As my DH would say "there will be plenty of time for motorized motor coaches later"! We still do a lot of snorkeling, walking tours, ziplining etc.

Given all the stuff that I ( and most people) deal with: work, kids, etc....,.. If I can get to the point where I feel bored, I view that as a win. I like doing activities on a ship but sitting on deck, looking at the ocean, is awesome.

So, boredom for me is a goal on vacation.

This! I don't actually get bored very easily, but I prize the "nowhere to be, no one" to see feeling of sea days. I love doing new things in port, but try to spend at least half the port days relaxing, too. We generally skip all the shows and activities in favor of entire days spent on Serenity reading, napping, watchings the water, and sipping drinks.

I am SO relieved it is not just me!

I plan like a mad woman before hand and it just seemed like the last one I took was kind of blah! The Magic was a great ship but was deader for nightlife than I had ever seen! It was just myself and my daughter and Mom. I am taking a large group of friends this time, and used to LOVE it when I did, so I am looking forward to that! I love to meet new people as well!

I think after working on ships for so many years and then the excitement of going on so many (and though I have tried different lines and probably should venture out again, I always return to Carnival for the "FUN" factor....I am not THAT old yet!) that I maybe hit burn out! I DO gamble, drink, go to the comedy shows and like to do karaoke with my friends. We are VERY active in port. But like I said, sometimes on sea days I just have a lot of trouble tuning down and not wearing myself out! I also could NEVER sit still long enough to make it through a Dive In Movie! It is when too many other things are going on! LOL! Maybe I need meds! Jk!

I have only been on 4 cruises but all of them on Carnival and evenly divided between Elation and Dream. So yes, I do tend to get a bit bored. However, I love to gamble and the casino is the best entertainment for me. So if I feel bored then the casino it is. The problem I have is I don't want to go see a show AGAIN if I saw it on the last cruise. Same for the hairy chest contest, I know it is different contestants but it just isn't as funny. This would happen on ANY cruise though. I just gamble some more and try to force myself to relax. I used to go-go-go and only use my room to sleep. Now I realize I am not wasting my time or money if I go back to my room and enjoy a little television or some time on the balcony. It is my vacation and I should enjoy relaxing for a little while. Besides, relaxing in the room is certainly cheaper than the casino. If I couldn't gamble on a cruise I wonder what I would do...hmmm? lol

Wicked, we are just alike! I have the same routine each cruise. Up at 6am (I hate getting up at 7:30 at home), coffee and pastry from the Lido, take it up to the top deck to a lounge chair. Sit for about an hour and a half, go back to room, get dressed, go to brunch, go back to room, get on bathing suit, go back to top deck to a lounge chair, read, sleep, stare at ocean all day. Go to the spa to shower (hate the small shower in the room), go to room to get dressed for dinner, eat dinner, go to casino, in bed by midnight.

On port days, I try to find a beach/resort to go to and rest. Maybe do some shopping before getting back on board.

I cruise to relax. I am NEVER bored.

A bad day on a cruise is better than the best day at work!!!!

Are you asking if we have boredom and anxiety issues ?

I leave those troubles to others.

LOL! I am sure some of my issue is anxiety! I am a single Mom, with a booming business, a large home with no help there and an active social life. And on top of that, you would think someone that just spent the last few years in chemo off and on and would know how to slow down and nap! BUT NOT ME! But really THAT isn't the question....

I am sure that SOME of it is having cruised enough to be at top tier status, which isn't important to me, but tells you at least how many days at sea I have..... but also that I think it may be the lack of changing the events up and making them not the same as they were 10 years ago! I love to take newbies and truly enjoy watching them experience it the first time. If you look back at Fun Times from two years ago it is almost the same as today or even 5 years ago! Try it!

My question was just out of curiosity as to how everyone else can unwind and find that happy medium.

Me personally I experienced a lull in my excitement levels about 15 years ago, I was a young single guy and I was starting to get tired of the same old schtick. Then something happened....I started to appreciate all the little things instead of getting on the ship looking for chicks haha. I liked the more modern pleasing bathrooms, I liked walking around the ship and and looking at the artwork that adorned the hallways. I liked the new upgrades ,food and waterslide wise. I liked being in the middle of the ocean and having a hotel room that I could go to bathroom in (the concept still amazes me more than how certain politicians still have a career). Now I cruise with the family (wife and two kids) and before that a few years just with my wife, and each and every time I get a tingle up my leg (hehehehehe). I got married on the Legend, I'm hardcore, pedal to the medal wacko. Once I see that funnel, I become a different person. But enough about me...

Its funny, we would be bored senseless if we didn't gamble on the cruise:eek: That's why I have been trying to convince my "better" half to try an all inclusive island for a change..maybe more to do besides gambling? He doesn't do trivia, we have seen most of the shows before, we used to like drinking a glass of wine on the balcony with a smoke but no smoking allowed, been there done that! Don't get me wrong I still love to cruise I just think there may be other choices out there as well.

We have 2 cruises booked for this year so lets see how that goes!

I never get bored but that is because I am a reader and always have my Kindle with me! I don't participate in too many activities except for the occasional trivia. I am naturally an early riser so I start the day with walking on the track then breakfast and a few hours by the pool. Lunch around Noon and then inside for some trivia or I find a place to read. Then time to get ready for dinner, eat and watch a show or go to comedy. Maybe check out the deck party or Dive In movie and then to bed.

I thought I would by now but I still hate to see the end of each cruise. I go into each sea day with almost nothing planned but still end up with not enough time. I'm the type that usually has to have 2 or 3 things going on at once to feel occupied, but on a ship I can sit and hour on our balcony just watching the sea go by.

I like to book to ports I haven't been to before, but we still enjoy every port we have repeated and except for Cozumel almost always find something to do that we haven't done before. Part of the trick is to cruise with different people now and then and see it through their eyes. Fortunately we know a lot of other people that also like to cruise.

I am never bored, but I enjoy reading on deck all day - sun or shade. Eating, getting in hot tub or pool if the mood strikes. Then casino, dinner, cocktail, show or comedy in the evening. I am good.

On the other hand, DH is not a reader and can only stand sitting still for a short period of time. I would bet that he has the occasional case of boredom. But he could go play bingo or something if he wants to....only I usually find him in the cabin in front of the TV!

This is why we will never buy a cottage. We had a travel trailer set up as a seasonal once in a camp ground. It only lasted a year. We like to switch things up. Different ships, different ports, different embarkation ports, as well as doing land vacations to different locations. When we vacation we like to get new experiences. Even if it is at the same location, like multiple trips we have taken to Las Vegas, we always find a new place(s) or thing(s) to experience on that vacation.

I DO want to say that I still LOVE cruising! I need to do some different ports soon! LOL! I haven't switched them up in the last 2 years! Don't want anyone to think that this isn't my passion! It is rare for a 45 year old woman to know all the stats on every ship and not love it!

I just wondered if others ever have that feeling that you have done this before with some of the same olds that are staple!

I get that same "tingle" when I get there and have formed some of my best friendships on cruises! 15 years later we still try to get together!
