Summit - Indulgence and Rooftop Terrace

Has anyone been on Summit and experienced "Indulgence"(need to reserve early?) and also the Rooftop Terrace? We sail end of August and look forward to seeing what the renovations were. Glad that Bistro on 5 will still be there as we enjoy our lunch there the first day very much. I understand it is changing to a sushi restaurant. In April we were on the NCL Breakaway and their sushi restaurant was empty pretty much all the time except later in the evening.

Any info is appreciated.

The rooftop terrace was nice. I did the movie/dinner thing-- we were docked and I still needed 4 blankets!! Didn't do indulgence.

They were definitely available tickets for it, though.

Is the rooftop terrace accessible for a mobility scooter? Or is it accessibly only via stairs?

David

To the best of my knowledge (sailed her in April) it is only available via stairs at this point in time. Granted, I was not looking for other options but I did not notice any elevators or other ways to access the roof.

The roof top terrace cannot be reached using an elevator. In May, I tried to climb the steps up to the terrace. They were very steep and the wind was very strong. Never got there. Thought it would be a good entertainment during our 4 days at sea on a one week cruise. The in cabin movies were not interesting. The Indulgence event is so secret that I haven't met anyone who has attended. The Captains Club host told me that it was really good with lots of food. More food on a cruise? That isn't a big attraction.

We were on the Summit in December 2015 and went to Indulgence. We were a group of 6, and it was fun. The drinks flowed freely and the food (tapas type) was plentiful.

The entertainment could be categorized as an interactive European cabaret. You'll either like it or hate it. Our DSIL left after about 30 minutes - it just wasn't his cup of tea. The costumed entertainers came around and spoke with us (in character) and invited us to dance with them.

It definitely was a very unique offering and something that I've never seen offered on any cruise line. We had a good time, but YMMV.

Here is are my recent observations on Indulgence from our Summit cruise two weeks ago.

My wife and I had some extra on-board credit this trip so we decided to try INDULGENCE. This entertainment does have a $25.00 per person charge I believe to attend. It was held in Cellar Masters in the late evening. Cellar Masters is closed earlier in the evening by putting red velvet curtains across the entries to hide the interior. When you arrive, you are escorted into a dark, red-lighted interior where you will see members of the entertainment staff, singers, and dancers wearing fanciful costumes and arranged in interesting settings. They will perform several different routines during the evening and when not entertaining they will interact with the guests by conversation, posing for pictures, etc. During the course of the event the kitchen staff and servers from around the ship pass out very nice small bites, like sliders, sushi, etc. great desserts like cheesecake-pops, and specialty cocktails. It was very enjoyable and my wife and I would recommend that you attend. It is limited seating so make your reservations at Guest Services to make sure you get into the event. You will enjoy it!

Hope this information helps. Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda

we were on the summit in May and I believe there is a wind tunnel on the rooftop terrace.

we also did the "taste of film" . the ship was docked, it was like being in the middle of a hurricane.

We stayed for the entire film, and then, when we came down and walked across deck 11....... over the pool area........ no wind..... NOTHING>

.

I suggested they don't do that again up there if the wind is bad.

I also wanted to correct some out of date information abou the lack of accessabilty to the rooftop terrace. The Summit now has an outdoor "elevator" which is located next to the stairs leading to the rooftop terrace on deck 11. It is open sided and I watched two ships officers testing it on our recent cruise. It lifted them to the next deck smoothly and efficiently.

Sounds much like a repeat of when they installed the lounging beds, on M class ships, had hanging curtains/rags (think underworld in Phantom) in the upstairs lounge (blocked panoramic views), and had the heavily made up cirque like characters roaming around....to interact with passengers..most of whom did not want to interact,,,,it was overall kind of creepy.

There was no extra charge, special food or flowing drinks,,,just the characters,. The lounge became a ghost town and not much time passed before the took down the rags and removed the beds...

Always give Celebrity credit for trying new ideas..this one not appealing to us,,

Did they have the silent (headphones) event..that sounds like a possible fun time????

Standing on the aft and looking back at the ship/staterooms, etc...which side of the ship is the new elevator located?

Elevator is on the starboard side (right side looking forward from the aft of the ship) above/in front of room 1100. I saw someone successfully using it on a scooter last week with someone helping him get in at the top. I'm going to try and post a picture that doesn't show the lift clearly but if you are looking for it you can see where it's located.

The one rooftop activity I wish we had attended was the wine & cheese event while docked in Bermuda. We didn't see a lot of people up there when we passed through but it looked really nice and was perfect weather!

Hi,

I had gone to the indulgence show two years ago in August- It was actually the first time that indulgence was introduced. While I have mixed opinions about the "show" we were in a Celebrity suite and it was free. I am going on the Summit again in a few weeks with family and thought my grandchildren age 10 and 12 might enjoy it. Do you recall if children are allowed to attend?

Thanks

We were invited to Indulgence on the last "chick" evening on Summit earlier this month. There was nothing risqué about it, but I don't think grandchildren of that age would enjoy it. When we walked in, they had heavy hors d'oeuvres similar to what you get in Qsine, and free flowing alcohol, similar to what you would get at a Captain's Club event. It was similar to a Roaring 20's atmosphere. Since we just finished dinner in Blu (how much food can one eat ) and had the Premium Beverage Package, we stayed for about 45 minutes then headed to the Sunset Bar for a nightcap.

In mid-May, they still had tickets available to Indulgence right up to the day of the performance.

I have absolutely no desire to be part of that. I already get free drinks and free food and I find it creepy to have entertainers hanging around, performing right in front of me, being forced to talk to passengers. I guess for people that are into production shows or performers, it might be appealing.

We attended Indulgence this past May on Summit. I thought it was strange and since we had late seating dinner, I was too full to eat and drink much more. The entertainment is a bit weird, but since they are still doing it they must be making money on it (?)

I don't think I would go again.

If you look all the way to the front of deck 12, you can see a jumble of railings where the outdoor lift is right next to the stairs. Sorry the picture is so large - first time trying.

Whew! Thank you! For some reason, I had it in my mind that the elevator was off of the Sunset Bar and next to the aft stateroom balconies.

More food and drink - not sure I will need that at Indulgence. Other than the entertainment I cannot see us joining in. We were invited to a wine tasting one afternoon on our last Celebrity cruise. Many many types to sample but after a lunch and three days of unlimited wines we were not able to really enjoy it. And we had to pay. Got talked into it one night at a specialty restaurant and have passed on it.

I don't think the Indulgence party we attended would be very interesting for most young people based on my experiences with my three children when they were growing up. I also don't think that the performances or costumes were particularly risque, in fact some of the numbers were a repeat of numbers from the stage shows on-board, I just know my three kids would not have wanted to spend time here vs. doing other activities on the ship. My wife and I really enjoyed it.

As to the ships crew being forced to talk to the guests that was not what I experienced. My wife and I spoke with several members of the show and entertainment staff for periods ranging from 3 or 4 minutes to 20 minutes or so with one of the dancers. They all indicated that they like this party because it gives them a chance to talk with different people from around the world. It is not something they are "forced" to do. We talked about their homes, future plans, how they came to work for Celebrity and other similar topics.

On a completely different topic, I agree with the comments of K-Chart, the elevator was on the starboard side next to the stairs leading up to deck 12 on Summit.

Yes, they did have the silent dancing with headphones activity on our Summit cruise on June 12-19.

Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda
