What would you do?

My hubby and I are sailing on the conquest in Oct. We booked a OV because we have a cruise planned for the next month. We really wanted a balcony but it wasn't in the budget, however the price of the balcony has dropped considerably but only for guarantee rate. Would you chance it for a balcony or stick with OV ? Or wait and see if the price drops again for the choose your room option? Tia

On the Conquest I would definitely stick with the OV. I have been in a VERY noisy balcony cabin on the Conquest. It's located right above the casino bandstand and the music sounded like it was right in the room. The speakers are on the ceiling of the casino/floor of the cabin. It went on till the wee hours. Unless this type of cabin doesn't bother you, I'd stay put in the OV or wait and see whether the price goes down on balcony cabins where you can select your own.

I say go for the inside cabin - just imagine all the duckets you will save!

I don't do guarantees. I am way too picky abut my cabin. If you have a good OV, stay put. I love OVs and insides anyway. I also won't do balconies on Carnival anymore due to inconsiderate neighbors. I realize that there are plenty of people that do, and that's good.

However, I wouldn't risk it not knowing where you will end up. And, yes, there are such things as bad balconies like a previous poster mentioned. So if you want to move I would wait and see if the price drops enough and pick a cabin. Or if you are willing to roll the dice, take a gamble and see where you end up. There are plenty of people that have and were happy, and there are those that weren't. But there's no way I ever would. That's just my opinion, however.

As others have suggested, I too would stick with the current OV and watch for similar (or lower) pricing on choose-your-cabin balconies. The balcony guarantee has too much possibility of a lousy location.

I would definitely chance it. To me, any balcony is way better than an OV. I love the sounds of the ocean as well as seeing it

I love sleep more. I would turn quite evil if I had to stay up until the club closed due to the vibration of the bass until the wee hours or was constantly woken up by the sounds of chairs scraping across lido deck late it night and early in the morning. Same thing with the carts rolling across the tile floor of the Lido Buffet.

But I guess if you like the sounds of the ocean that much, you could always sleep out on the balcony. Just don't bring your mattress out there. Might be a little sticky and sweaty in the morning unless you happen to be out there when they start washing the balconies. Bring your soap! [emoji41]

Decide what is important to you. Others know what is important to them, but only you know what is important to you.

Personally, to me, a bad balcony is better than an ocean-view. I can counteract noise with a TV. And if you are a sound sleeper, that point may be moot.

Think about the pluses of a balcony. Sailaway, sunsets, sunrises with coffee.....what's important to you?

this is me...are we related? This is indeed why I choose my room..I research to see what's beside, above and below me. EVERYTIME. Sometimes it's not the location it's the neighbors! On the Glory in 2015 we really had some inconsiderate neighbors whose kids were around aged 7 and up used the room like they were training for some Olympic sport..they were hitting and kicking the walls, screaming and play fighting...I knew the parents were in the cabin with them letting them act like that..you could hear it through the walls. I simply called down to guest services and explained that unless they wanted a report of me being a total jerk to the cabin next door they'd send security to stop the romper room crap that had been going on for well into the 2nd day. Enough is enough. We didn't hear a peep the rest of the cruise. I'm patient and kind but sometimes I can do a good Linda Blair impersonation! ROFL

Glad to see I'm not the only one! I have no tolerance for noise when on vacation. I like to go and relax not be disturbed. Maybe we can be neighbors some day on a cruise!

Maybe it's because I grew up in NYC, or maybe I'm a sound sleeper, but I've never been bothered by noise in my cabin. I've had rooms under the galley, nightclub, lounges, lido deck, and I've never been bothered or paid attention to the noises other people complain about, so I would go for the balcony

I wish I could sleep well. If I hear a noise and it startles me awake, I am up for good. My kids tell me I can hear a gnat fart. DH OTOH can sleep anywhere and everywhere and is out like a light as soon as he hits the pillow. When he was deployed with FEMA to Haiti, they had to sleep just off one of the runways at the airport and did so with no problems. I would have gone mad.

How much extra is balcony? We have done about 6 guarantees and always satisfied.

The balcony gar is 180$ more than what we paid but the choose your cabin rate is 400 plus more! We love balconies and always get one if we can... I'm a night owl so late night noise wouldn't bother me and the DH can sleep anywhere🙄. My only concern is early morning noise and being somewhere that makes me seasick as we usually only book middle of ship...

That's a lot of money. I would ride it out. You might get an upsell call to where you can upgrade and pick your room for possibly less. But I wouldn't count on it. Wait and see what prices do closer to sailing.

  • 1 month later...

So I decided to go with the GAR. I switched on wed. And got my assigned room today (Friday) we got the lido deck!! It's the same deck as our friends and and just a little down the hall from them. So glad the gamble paid off! I'm going to surprise my hubby! 37 days to go!

I didn't notice the date of the thread. I was reading and was going to say I would take the gamble for that price. Got the end and see you did and it paid off. Good for you. That's a great price for a Lido balcony and being close to friends is a huge bonus. Double win!
