Call me nostalgic, but I'd love to see a Carnival MadiGras and Carival Carnivalle Wouldn't mind a new Jubilee, Destiny or Celebration either. Just not the same as the other guys please.

Best answer I've seen! Also what was so wrong with "Destiny" that they needed to rename her "Sunshine". If Cunard (owned by Carnival) can use the same names more than once, why not CCL?

I agree. Especially with Carnival Destiny!

That was the first passenger ship to exceed 100,000 grt, and then to rename it Carnival Sunshine.

Still bothers me.

i agree with the nostalgic names. I think mardi gras was the first carnival ship ( a pre-owned ship ), and carnivale was the first "purpose built" ship for carnival, so maybe mardi gras ii and carnivale ii would be in order. After that, i would be surprised to see any "duplications".

Either way, i won't be sailing any of the new boats. Just too big imo. Maybe they'll name the next one megafloat! Lol

like!!!! ;):):d

Back in the early 80s I was a crew member on the Tropical, when it was brand new, as a casino dealer. When Carnival came out with the Holiday, the Fantasy and the Ecstasy, they held an employee contest to name the ships. A friend of mine named the Holiday. I wonder if they still do that? Fun times...

Same with HAL. So many of their ships have had the same 'dam name!

With respect to the Destiny/Sunshine, if things had gone better with her, Triumph would now be the Sunrise and Victory the Sunset.

Since they managed to see the error of their ways on this front, it only makes sense for Carnival to have a new Destiny.

If this is going to be deemed the Solaris class, the next three names are:

Carnival Solaris

Carnival Aurora

Carnival Cosmos

I guess they had to wait over ten years before admitting failure passing on the Pinnacle class, and giving the big ship market to RCCL as a gift. They have finally come to their senses. Let's see if that holds true by NOT squeezing as many passengers as they can into a sardine can. This is what makes RCCL so special. Carnival has failed on the big ship market since the Destiny, so that's 20 years now.

Personally, I still prefer the smaller ships, but that nail is pretty much in the coffin.

Well, actually SPLASH, but the Concordia killed that one.

In retrospect though, with all the reasons they wanted to kill the name Destiny with all its failures, keeping that name would have sealed its fate. Even changing its name, it kept the wrath of Neptune since its relaunch.

  • 1 year later...
Interesting - the Wikipedia page for Costa has them taking delivery in 2019 and 2020 for these ships. I wonder if "Vista 3" is going to Costa instead - there are two more Vista-class ships due to P&O Australia in 2019 and 2020.

I actually think the 2022 ship will be Carnival Mardi Gras to commemorate the line's 50th anniversary. Maybe the 2020 ship will be something like Carnival Fiesta, although with the lead ship being two years ahead of the 50th anniversary, who knows. It could still be something like Carnival Reflection or Carnival Spectacle to keep with the "Vista" theme.

I just noticed your old post. I am quoting you so you can get credit as the 1st to guess if you are correct. Vista has a Horizon MDR. Horizon has a Reflection MDR. Carnival Reflection. I like it. :-)

Hmm, looks like I am not the only one who had data mined the various trademark applications. I think you are very close. I believe at lease two of these will be used on the new CNG class ships, but instead of Cosmos(I thought that as well a few years ago) I now have have it as Galaxy on my list.

As for Vista III, based on what I've seen I think it will most likely be the Carnival Reflection but Carnival Mirage is also a less likely possibility.

Here is a hint they will have the trademark application in long(in most cases years) before the announcement is made often in a pending state. Its just the owner of the trademark will not be changed reflect Carnival until the public announcement and that makes it hard to find especially if its pending, but it can be done!

All that said, Carnival can still call it whatever they what. While its fun to made what I think is an educated guess, it is still totally meaningless.

Lets not forget this post were I did correctly predict Horizon before it was publicly known. Although the rest of the list has changed since then.

I had a Ford Galaxy many many years ago. A lot of fond memories. The back seat was big enough to, er, umm, never mind.:o If Carnival was to name one of their future ships "Galaxy", I wonder if Ford would have any objections?
