What are your must haves, traditions, and secrets on a Royal cruise?

Recommended Posts

Two items I find invaluable are magnetic hooks (for hanging things on the walls)

More than a few cruises under my belt and I just picked up a great idea with the magnetic hooks! Always looking for places to put my "stuff"! Just ordered a few. Thanks, CC!

I forgot to add a must do. We have pre-dinner drinks at the British pub (Duck and Dog or Bull and Bear, or which ever). That is pretty much every night.

We also enjoy the typical entertainment that they have in those venues and stop in there before we retire for the night to see who is playing.

Early dinner is a tradition for us. We tried late seating once and it was not for us.

More recently since we have become diamond, we head to the diamond lounge for a couple more drinks before going to the shows or the casino for our evening entertainment.

Tradition is good, but so is new stuff.

I'm afraid I'm part of the problem: My Kindle goes with me everywhere. And is loaded with mysteries set aboard cruise ships.

Please understand, that I am not against Kindles. We bought one for my 95 year old mother which she loves. However, they don't work for me as I speed-read everything (always have) and for some reason this process doesn't work for me on an Kindle. Still, I really miss the ship libraries.

When we have a few down minutes after breakfast, we get the daily trivia sheet from the library and sit on our balcony asking each other the questions and then do the sudoku and word search.

We also bring a kitchen garbage bag to put our dirty laundry in after wearing.

My first two cruises had the library, and we did use it a few times, but we were often the only people in there. I don't think it was a popular space.

I always take a picture of my husband inserting the seapass card into the cabin door on one evening, typically formal night. I make sure to get the cabin # in the photo.

It started out as a joke, sort of a "Come into my room..." (complete with wiggling eyebrows ;)) but has turned into a tradition.

For pictures, we always take a pictures (close-ups) of the cabin number, sea pass cards, Itinerary and the front page of the compass daily. That way we know exactly what was happening each day.

When was the last time you used a Kindle? The latest ones have really fast processors and can keep up with fast page advancements

We ALMOST ALWAYS use the stairs too - for the same reason. We've found that it truly does keep the weight gain down. Exceptions might be when we're on lower decks in formal wear going to the Diamond or Viking Lounge.

Same here!!!

To boot, I hate when people take the elevator for just one floor. Especially when going down! Come on...going down one flight? Gravity is in your favor! LOL

My wife and I do a couples massage every cruise.

I personally watch as my foot hits the deck for the first time at embarkation. At that point, I know I can let go work and have fun!

I love turning off the cell phone and putting it in the safe for the duration of the cruise! No more tether!

I watch every sail away. I just love watching final preparations and then we depart. In Cozumel, I also love the pier runners and late returns from Senor Frogs stagger back to the ship.

Piano bar, piano bar, piano bar!

Watching a movie on the outside screen (weather permitting).

I would say we try and go with the flow so to speak, not worry about the little stuff and look forward to meeting new friends.

In regards to stairs, if I am out & about alone, I do the stairs, however if DH is with me then even for 1 deck it is the elevator as his right knee is bad and difficult for him to climb or descend. He can do it but has to take it very easy. Not everyone is agile and stairs can be difficult for some.

They're a delicious coconut and toffee cookie. If you Google royal Caribbean coconut ranger cookie, you can find picks and the recipe.

(One of the few desserts on rcl that i actually enjoy.)

ABSOLUTELY! It just angers me when you see people (especially kids) take up space on an elevator to go up or down 1 flight.

There have been times where elevators have been so crowded that I purposely step off and walk up/down 7-8 flights just to make room for people who actually need to use the elevators due to physical limitations.

Agreed.

There's an old saying when it comes to elevators: Up one, down two". In other words, you should not take the elevator if you are only going up one or down two. (assuming you are healthy). :D

I didn't realize they had toffee in them. No wonder they are so good.
