Hi Peter!

We're leaving here around 11:00 am and going down to see her at the pier!! Will be on her next year doing the same cruise!

This is a round trip from San Diego. She just came from Hawaii right?

Got confused with the report.

Denise:)

Oops! Bad editing on my part - I changed the text I had for her previous cruise which was to Hawaii and missed deleting that. Sorry for the confusion.

5pm is typical for HAL ships leaving San Diego, though the port schedule shows the next few HAL departures times at 4pm. I was down at the pier just after 1pm today and all seemed to be very quiet. It doesn't take much to load the Maasdam compared to most other cruise ships.

I don't see any reason to knock HAL if they did wait an hour for passengers arriving on a late flight for this extra long voyage. There is plenty of time to get to Cabo.

All guests were onboard when I left at 3:25 pm. All luggage had gone on as well. The fuel barge was still on the south side.....so I assume that was the delay in departure. 4 pm is the normal departure time, except for Hawaiian itineraries. That may change in the future to 4 as well. They will not wait for passengers with the first port 2 days away in Cabo. You should be on board 1 hour before sailing any way.

That bunkering barge has delayed departure from SD before

The barge was alongside the Maasdam when I was there shortly after 1pm. How long does it take to transfer the fuel? i did notice that several crew members were struggling with a suspended window washing plaform. Would that delay sailing if stuck hanging?
