Adonia

Thinking about booking Adonia 21days October 2018.

Have been on Oriana ,Oceana,Arcadia ,Ventura,Azura and Britannia but as this will be the smallest ship we are planning to cruise on was wondering how others have found it compared to the bigger ships. It's the itinerary that we like. Any information would be appreciated,

Particularly interested in information regarding Penthouse Suite or balcony cabin size of bathroom. Thanks.

We did the penultimate cruise on Adonia before she was sent off to the Americans. We had one of the Penthouse suites at the stern. The cruise was lovely, it went into much smaller Caribbean ports than we had ever visited before. The fact that there were a lot less passengers meant you tended to recognise more of your fellow passengers on a day to day basis. Admittedly the ship, looked a little tired at this point but as it has had a full refit for the US market it should be more spruced up now.

The only pointI would make is that the stern suites catch all of the black output from the funnel so the deck on the balcony tends to be quite dirty. The suites themselves are very palatial and we loved ours. The suite has two bathrooms the smallest of which is bigger than the average balcony cabin bathroom.

I hope you book Adonia and enjoy her the way that we did.

Adonia is a wonderful ship.

We've been on her twice, both times in a Penthouse Suite.

They are huge inside and out. Lounge area has a settee, two chairs, a small table, a 4 seater dining table and a large cabinet housing the TV etc. The bedroom is also large and has a canopied bed, two small bedside tables, a huge bank of wardrobes and a dressing table area. The bathroom is nice, but not huge. It's large, but only has a bath with a shower over. There is no separate shower. I think it has two sinks, but it may only have one. There is also a separate cloakroom near the entrance door.

The balcony is also huge. When we went they still had the wooden furniture, but I'm sure that will have been updated by now. It did have a 4 seater dining table with 4 chairs, two steamer chairs and two small tables.

To be honest I don't remember the soot being a huge problem. Virtually all ships have this happen at their aft end so if you want to avoid it don't have a cabin at the aft of any ship. I simply wiped the handrail down every morning with some tissue - it wasn't a big issue - I was on holiday and, therefore, have all the time in the world!

She did not look tired to me or my husband. In fact, considering her age, she looked extremely good. Her atrium is especially beautiful, although they have now replaced the red carpet with a pale gold one which my husband is upset about! :D

She doesn't have a Theatre, only a show lounge, but it is quite adequate. Andersons Bar is lovely - like a gentleman's club. There is a pianist there every night. She does, of course, now have a Glass House - a great addition, although it has replaced Sorrento (the italian select dining rest.) so there is only the MDR, self-serve buffet and Ocean Grill. (This is where Suite passengers can have breakfast if they don't have it in their Suites.)

We love her, but if you like lots of places to go, a nightclub, a casino, etc, etc. you will not like her.

She has a gentle, laid back atmosphere, IOHO, which we enjoy very much (she's my husband's favourite along with Britannia!) and we are booked on her for the 4th August and can't wait to get back on.

Highly recommended. :)

I agree with Cruise Puss. We too have had an aft suite on Adonia which was lovely, the largest suite we've been in on any P&O shiip and that includes the large suites at the back of Oceana. We never had a problem with soot on the balcony either. We thought the entertainment on Adonia was fantastic even though there were only 5 performers who did everything from the usual musical offerings to afternoon plays on a sea day. Love Anderson's lounge, very comfortable seating. The library is wonderful, a beautiful decorated glass ceiling, and the library is huge. We are already booked up for next year but after than we'll be straight back on Adonia. We have had one of the forward suites on her too. It was large, not quite as large as the aft ones but almost. The only thing about the forward suites is that when the ship is at sea it can be a bit windy on the balcony although it is configured in such a way that there is shelter, both from the sun and the wind.

I've only been on Adonia once, but had she not been loaned to Fathom I would have been on her far more than that, as I thought she was lovely. The afternoon plays were a particular highlight. Being smaller, she can visit ports that other ships can't and there's less chance of having to tender. Also there aren't enough passengers to overcrowd the smaller places, as can happen with a larger ship. (So long as other ships aren't also in port at the same time, of course.) A big plus from the smaller number of passengers was how quick and smooth embarkation was.

Well I am on her next week, on her first cruise back with P@O. We wanted to book a suite but they were sold out very quickly , I think because of the half price offer that we and others received.

We are in a balcony cabin, B deck midships and I will be taking lots of photos. And will report back how I find her.

But....I have never been successful in uploading them to CC as a decent size....if anyone can help with advice on that would be very welcome! Mine always end up as little thumbnails!

If you are looking at the TA you might find that there are a couple of Pax you might know. We did a similar itinerary in 2016 on Adonia just before she temporarily left us and you may remember we left Soton on the same day as Britannia and encountered pretty rough seas for the first few days. We didn't have a suite but the balcony cabin was adequate for our needs with a standard size bathroom and balcony similar in size to A deck on Azura. There is no casino though so that means you might not loose your husband to the roulette wheel so easily. We loved the itinerary and she really is a very intimate little ship

Hello my friends hello, lovely to hear from you, hope you are both well.

So far I can't locate Roll Call for this cruise perhaps too early yet. Oh no Phil, No Casino :') Scott says that means he will have more time to spend with me  Isnt' that a lovely thought ;p

We are on Azura this December 14 night to Caribbean,Moises and Hannah joining us.

Thank you Zombatar,Cruise Puss,annieuk,jh1809,Mysticalmother for providing all of th enformation that I was exactly looking for. Mysticalmother, I look forward to viewing your photographs dosent matter if it is thubnails or not just good to see them thank you.

As it is only Select Price available at the moment does anyone think that the price for this cruise for Oct 2018 will eventually include a Saver Fare. Can't decide if to book now or wait and see if the Saver Fare appears.

Thanks again everone.

The problem with waiting re Adonia is, that the only cabins that may be left on Saver fares may be on A Deck, which can suffer from noise from the deck above - it's the Lido Deck. You would not get your pick of cabins if you wait. If either of the above don't matter, then wait.

Another possible point is that I'm not sure that Adonia fares drop that much. She was always very popular before she temporarily left P&O and her cruises do tend to sell out.

I can't really help for uploading photos but there is a detailed "Stickie" I think. Or something if you click on the photo symbol.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing you photos as we are on in four weeks time in a B deck midships balcony. First cruise on Adonia for us. :D

Thank you Crus Puss, I think you are absolutely correct. As we are intending booking the Penthouse Suite and the one we wish to book is still available I think we had better just go ahead and book it. Normally we book on the first day the cruises are released but as both of us have had that many up and downs healthwise since last year we had not looked at any future cruises.

Thank you again.

You are probably right about suite prices as there aren't many on Adonia but if you want an indication on prices for select balcony grade compare the 2017 TA price to the 2018 TA price. Both have similar itineraries but the price has dropped considerably on the 2017 TA since it was released

Hi Phil, yes I was quite surprised to compare the 2017 cruise with the 2018 cruise. At first I thought that perhaps that there had been a special offer on the 2017 cruise especially with the large amount of OBC being offered but then stared to think that perhaps the 2017 November price had dropped also but was unsure. Need to make a decision soon . Thanks again.

Interesting comment re A Deck as I got cabin A64 for our 35 days, B2B on Adonia next year. I saw that the buffet and Lido deck were above, scraping chairs, tables etc. So have now changed to C deck...C60 for both cruises. Thank you.:halo:

Cruise Puss thank you for your very kind words, it really boosts one up when other people take the time to send their best wishes. We are both on the mend after a very trying 12 months and looking forward to resuming cruising again starting on Azura in December. Hopefully one day we might meet up on a cruise.. Pat
