Rare Scrapnana Posted June 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2017 We have a Friday dam double header. Amsterdam will be at the AS dock (prime viewing spot) from 0800-2200. Volendam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Disney Wonder (0600-1700) at the AJ dock and Regatta (1300-2400) at the FKL dock. Amazing as it may seem, the forecast is for a sunny day with a 0% chance of rain! The high will be a toasty (at least for Juneau) 67F/19C and the low will be 51F/10C. Sunrise is at 3:50 am and sunset at 10:08 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at http://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/ .

Rare Copper10-8 Posted June 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Amsterdam should be overnighting in Stephens Passage after her day in the fjord (Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm) and glacier yesterday, but her position is not indicated on AIS

Rare Copper10-8 Posted June 23, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Amsterdam is sitting there - just below Douglas Island. Yup, indicated by a 'blue ball' as opposed to a 'ship symbol' That's not her usual overnight spot
Happily@Sea Posted June 23, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Yup, indicated by a 'blue ball' as opposed to a 'ship symbol' That's not her usual overnight spot That is where AIS has indicated her sitting before every Juneau sail-in this season - there haven't been many so far. A very small sampling proves nothing :D.

Rare Vict0riann Posted June 23, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Good morning all, and thank you, Kathi, for the heads up!:) I hope to be here to see Amsterdam sail in, but we are going out to lunch (and will miss Volendam) - with a lady we met in the Falklands when we were on Zaandam in March. She was a "friend of a friend", and actually met up with us after our tour and drove us around Stanley. Now she is here for a visit, and we took her to Butchart's last week. She is leaving tomorrow, so this is her farewell lunch.

The most positive thing about the two upgraded docks, for us working on the ships, is the fact that they are now 'floating docks' which means no more multiple gangway changes between decks, due to tidal changes

Rare rafinmd Posted June 23, 2017 #22 Share Posted June 23, 2017 I want to post something while I am thinking of it. I will be at Scout Camp next week and will miss all the sailins. Next Friday, the Crystal Serenity will be taking Amsterdam's place at the AS dock. If she docks with her stern to the camera, the Volendam should be in the field of Serenity's bridge cam. Crystal has been having some IT problems and the camera has been stalled but is now fixed (wouldn't have mattered yesterday anyway since she was pointed away from the Zaandam). Rare rafinmd Posted June 23, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Copper, do you know of any reason why ships are usually scheduled ro arrive at the AS dock before the CT dock)? Roy
Rare Copper10-8 Posted June 23, 2017 #24 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Copper, do you know of any reason why ships are usually scheduled ro arrive at the AS dock before the CT dock)? Roy No real reason, Roy. It's easier to slide into AS when there's no one "in the way" at CT. Having said that, I've seen captains get into some incredible tight berthing spots; Captain James Russell-Dunford (RIP) on Maasdam in Reykjavik in 2012 comes to mind
Happily@Sea Posted June 23, 2017 #25 Share Posted June 23, 2017 From AIS, Amsterdam should be near Thane - not long now.
