Is Yacht Club worth an extra $1,500?

If the Yacht Club area increases too much, it'll lose its exclusivity factor. Yes, the prices will increase according to demand which may even impact on my ability to consider a YC booking in the future. I'd rather that than weaken/water down the product offered!

We have been able to book two cruises in the Yacht Club for a very good price. I don't say that it's cheap but it is great value for money.

When we shall book our third MSC cruise it will be in the Yacht Club even if the prices have gone up a lot. We will not cruise on MSC without a Yacht Club suite and if we decide to cruise with NCL again it will be in the Haven.

The price really matters for us, we don't have high salaries, but it's not Yacht Club or not Yacht Club it's cruising or not cruising. As long as we can afford the Yacht Club we will cruise, if it gets too expensive we will do another kind of vacation.

For me it's a VERY BIG ADVANTAGE that there are so few two room suites in the Yacht Club. NCL have lots of two room suites in the Haven and even if I haven't seen it there are many reports of the Haven taken over by lots of children. I don't mind children if they are well behaved but not everyone is.

I love that the Yacht Club has so few two room suites.

I understand that the prices will go up but I really prefer that over more Yacht Club suites and a lower price.

Hi Sveri,

Your point is well taken but on Divina, where they have enough two room suites, there never seems to be a problem with unruly kids. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

Now back to the topic: Go for the YC for $100 per day additional!!!:D

How much of the 1500 is due to the yacht club class, and how much of it is due the difference between a balcony room and a suite?

I'm not sure, I don't think there were any Aurea suites to book so I can't compare the price. But as far as space, for the largest balcony/rooms I could find Aurea's room is 235.73 square feet the balcony is 147.90 square feet and the YC room is 306.77 square feet and the balcony is 158.23 Square feet. So the room is quite a bit bigger but the balcony isn't.

Not to me...but it subjective. Just like for me it isn't worth it to pay twice the price for a Lexus than my Honda. For some an inside cabin is enough so they don't think it makes since to spring for a balcony....I do every trip now after the Carnival Ecstasy debacle. I wasn't on it but I had friends that were. Only you can determine it's worth to you.

I'm planning my first cruise on MSC for next year and I can do a Yacht Club Deluxe Suite for $1,500 more than a Balcony Aurea. It's a 14 night on the Meraviglia to Germany, Norway, Svalbard and Jan Mayen Islands. Those who have sailed both YC and Balcony Aurea do you think it's worth it? I don't. Convince me.

No . MSC staff told me they don't want solos in the YC.

Annie

Simply not true.

I travel solo, having done so for many years.

I have cruised YC and had the most wonderful experience. The crew were outstanding, most particularly the wonderful butlers. I was treated with the utmost respect, courtesy and genuine kindness.

On disembarkation day, my airport transfer was at 03:30 :o My delightful butler went to the amazing effort of getting up at an unearthly hour to bring a tray of coffee and pastries to my room to make sure I had breakfast before leaving for the airport. This was despite me telling him that on no account was he to do this. He personally escorted me off the ship, collected my suitcase and saw me safely settled into the airport bus. I am not given to displays of affection ( I'm British after all ;) ) but I just had to hug him for all that he had done for me.........and I must admit to a few tears as well.

I was so impressed with my experience I have booked another 4 YC trips, including a 28 day Grand Voyage :D

Just the gospel according to me, and my own expectations.....MSC can not hold onto this business model very long, nd prices will surely go up. I looked at the posted Brochure price for a cruise on the Seaside in 2019, and the YC1 cabin is listed at over 4100 per person, or about 8200 per couple. The current 2 for 1 pricing brings it down to a realistic bargain at $4100 per couple.......While no one actually pays the brochure prices, or at least should not, the typical discount is around 25% off, or 2nd person goes for 50% off, which is in fact a true 25% off for the cabin. That being said, after the loss leaders are done, I fully expect a rise of 25% for Yacht Club Cabins...Just not sure when they will hit critical mass to start being able to raise their prices. I am betting it will be prior to 2019

Wait, this is a thing?

To OP, if you are saving up for something, then I would take that into consideration. You haven't told us if this is your situation. I am saving up for a nice fancy car...one that has 2 first names :hearteyes::hearteyes:

Lol...drive a fancy car but sleep in inside cabins :'):'):')

Op I understand it's not a matter of affordability but one of value. I haven't stayed in YC. To me a balcony w Aurea is high living. So the question of value is relative. Relative to other cruise pricing the $100 per day upgrade is a steal. But I have to ask if you stayed with your original plan and were content, what different experiences / excursions could have you do with a discretionary 1500?

We have been on eight cruises and I have always paid brochure prices. If I shall book a cruise in Sweden, from a TA or from the cruiseline, brochure price is what I have to pay.

2 for 1, lots of OBC and things like that will not happen in Sweden.

Hi Sveri,

I wrote a letter to MSC management back in June. I had surveyed the plans for Seaside and noticed that they would not have enough two room suites for the YC. Evidently they had a mania to keep all the YC cabins on the same decks as the YC. The scream to be near the restaurant was the driving force behind this decision...but that does not solve the lack of two room suites. OK...so what if you have to take the elevator up 3 decks to the YC...so what!! I predicted that the demand for the YC would go through the roof. BTW I got a great message back that the matter would be sent to the designers. Hopefully they will realize that the demand for the YC is going to increase dramatically.

You are right Sveri, the demand for the YC will continue to increase.

The size of the rooms is my main issue as well plus the lack of rooms for a larger group.

I just got off Splendida in the YC. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I don't like crowds and the ability to sit with a book in the lounge, and eat in a smaller less noisy dining room was worth it. I don't drink enough to make drink package vs free drinks a factor. I didn't get the love from our butler that a PP did. (He was nice and our cabin was clean. That was about it.) But I loved the ability to get away from the crowds. For me, that makes my vacation.

Hi Dex,

I noticed the large two room suites on decks 13,14&15 on Seaside. These are forward overlooking the bow. You could easily make 4 YC suites on each deck...using the suites on the left and right and combining two Bella balconies on each side to make one suite on the left and right. Bottom line...plenty of room in each suite.

Now back to the topic...as ljandgb says it so well (see above).
