Disappointed with RCL/Allure.

Recommended Posts

That's what I was thinking..

If this is your first RC cruise, how do they know they love you so much, based on your casino play, that they comped you a suite. I have been on these boards a very long time and have NEVER heard of such.

I agree. We sailed Rccl since the late 80s and my husband practically lives in the casino on sea days and evenings and never have we been comped a suite or any other room. They have a great casino Royal program that offers certificates at the end of the cruise based on the play, drinks, and casino rates. They do offer free cruises for certain dates thruout the year but it's always an outside cabin. So I am not sure how a first time cruiser gets comped a free suite based on his gambling. We never ever got upgraded for free either on Rcl.

If you are frequent repeat customer and / or they are not seeing your information in competitor databases sold by 3rd party vendors they may not see a reason to try to entice you over. OP in this thread sounds fairly young and like a very active gamer; it could be in RCI's best interest to comp a suite vs just an outside.

I gather that the O.P. is a multi millionaire, single father, who is inclined to drinking & gambling. Casinos love him so much that Caesars palace has gifted him 3 NCL cruises and 1 Royal Caribbean cruise, that too in a suite! Wow!

Dear weespeed, correct me if I am wrong.

OP would have to be... to be comped a suite on NCL you need to gamble about 250,000 to earn that... the casinos on land require about the same or more to reach a level where a cruise with that cabin level is comped...

Incorrect. It is not always an outside cabin. 2400 points gets free inside, 3600 free outside, 4800 points free balcony. I have not seen advertised the rate for free suite.

I am not sure if you have sailed since your last listed 2015 cruise but Club Royale has changed a lot since then.

My first RCL cruise and disappointed with it.

I am on the July 30th sailing and after just the first day I'm not feeling it. Been on 4 NCL cruises and loved them. Was expecting more from RCL but it's falling short on my first day.

I have a suite and also purchased 2 more rooms for family. 2 rooms with 2 people in each.

I wanted my mom to be able to stay in my room to help me watch my 5 year old, but booked her late and got her another room.

I asked my stateroom attendant to set an extra bed on the couch for my mom to stay on the nights I'm in the casino or just out drunk, and he's giving me a hard time. Giving me looks when I asked for an additional pillow and blanket for my mom.

He gives funny looks and remarks 'she's staying here too?! I need to check with my supervisors etc,and see if this is ok.' Man really irked me. Said he'll let me know if that's ok tomorrow.

Ive never ran into that issue on NCL. They just smile and set up a spare bed for me. No questions, looks or remarks.

Also the crew seems so unfriendly and distant. I was walking and had finished a drink, saw an employee with a tray and asked if he could take my glass because I didn't want to just leave it on the ground. He just gave me a dirty look and took my glass with disdain.

Minutes later saw the same guy laughing and doing nothing with 4 other employees by the elevator. Really pissed me off.

Not to mention the included food choices are not good compared to NCL. My kids are already complaining saying the same thing.

Also after 11pm the only thing you can eat is room service, the pizza place or the cafe with pre-made sandwiches. On NCL there's so many options at the same time.

Just venting and just not happy after just one day.

You are noticing something that many long time Royal Caribbean cruisers have also noticed. Royal Caribbean's service is not what it used to be. I have been in suites twice on Royal Caribbean and NCL, and NCL treats it suite guests much better than Royal Caribbean does.

Just where do you come up these numbers?

I've been comped rooms and balconies on Royal and NEVER would think of dropping $250k in the Casino.

Just got back from zip lining and swimming and some of these responses are just wow.

It doesn't matter if I'm a male or female. Why should it? Having my mother watch my son while I'm out gambling, drinking or going to church doesn't matter. Why should it?

My request was a pillow and blanket so my mom can sleep on the couch while I'm out. That was it. The steward asked me if she was moving in. I didnt mention that.

I don't know any of you and none of you know me. I've owned several restaurants and owned a night club in San Francisco. I know what customer service is. If I didn't I wouldn't have been successful with my businesses.

If I saw my bar back grab a customer's glass with a dirty look, he/she would have had a talking to. Because that unsatisfied customer may not come back and that hurts my bottom line.

I'm very partial to people in the service industry. Having had restaurants and having to work in them I know how hard it is to serve people. I know there are great people and there are difficult people you must deal with all day. Having experience that I am very aware of not being in the same class as 'difficult people'.

Doesn't matter if this is RCL, Ncl, Xxx whatever cruise lines. If I'm given attitude when none was given I'll be irked.

I came on cruise critic to share how I felt and more than anything to vent because I am passive aggressive and won't say anything unless it's really egregious.

Having vented, I seem to have triggered so many as if Im bashing their child. Like some poster who bashes my children and never even met anyone of them. This was my first critique thread and will probably be my last. To those with kind words and tips thanks.

So far my cruise has been better. The casino was very good to me even though baccarat isn't my game of choice, it was very kind to me.

My steward has had a change of attitude and comes by asking if I need anything constantly. When he asked if I needed my room turned down for the night and if I needed the couch made, I said no its fine. He kept asking in an apologetic tone. Maybe he was having a bad day. I get that and that's why I wasn't going to complain to anyone higher up.

Still annoyed me and I vented.

Here's to a great rest of my cruise, cheers.

I'm glad that your cruise has been getting better. Posting any kind of complaint about a particular cruise line will be looked at negatively when you post it on that cruise lines forum where most are loyal to that cruise line. I hope that your first day doesn't leave a sour taste for Royal Caribbean, we sailed on NCL once, and were not pleased with the food, entertainment, or condition of the ship, but I'm sure that sailing was the exception to the rule and we will give NCL another try in the future, I hope you'll do the same for RCL.

We just got off the Oasis which is an amazing ship but like you we have cruise more NCL cruises then RCCL and we were expecting lots of different food options that we didn't have to pay extra for we felt dinners were great one of the best waiters we have had.

but breakfast and lunch there isn't a lot to choice from the buffet was nothing comparable to NCL and all my cruises are comp from a land base casino too I play a lot for MGM and now that they are with Royal I am sure I will cruise them more often really after 9 the only thing to grab was pizza or a sandwich from the café and my kids hate that the only ice cream around after 8 was ben and Jerrys which you have to pay so my kids could not get that either. we had a great cruise but was just a little disappointed about the food too we ate at Jonny Rockets 3 times for breakfast. definitely missed O'Sheeans lol My DD said if you could combine NCL and RCCL you would have the perfect cruise.:D

Will agree that late night choices on Royal are limited especially compared to O'Sheeans on NCL. We, however, did not think NCL food compared favorably to Royal. Oasis and Allure had plenty of choices for food that was included. The buffets on Royal seem much better. We found every breakfast choice there could be, NCL food was very blah to us. But that is just us!

I keep hearing that if you want decent food on NCL, you have to pay for it.

I just sailed NCL Dawn, having only sailed Royal Caribbean in the past. We did get decent meals in both Aqua and Venetian, their two free dining rooms. We also ate in Cagney's, Le Bistro, La Cucina and O'Sheehan's. O'Sheehan's is no extra charge and open 24/7, we weren't impressed by either the food or the service. Twice we were seated and left after never being approached by a server. Cagney's, the steakhouse, was good but service was slowwwwwww. La Cucina was on par with Giovanni's, though lots more choices. Le Bistro was the best meal of the week, as well as best service.

We enjoyed the buffet out at the pool, hard scoop ice cream and large, well staffed bar. Was nice not to have to go into Garden Cafe to get something to eat. Garden Cafe was busy but food on par with Windjammer.

I am glad we did the three pay restaurants, but would have been fine with the MDR.

I have to say my first cruise with NCL that was true the MDR food was inconsistent.. we did end up in the specialty dining options a lot that cruise.. however, after that cruise NCL changed the food and on my last three cruises with them the food in MDR and buffet were delicious.. it has improved significantly imho

I have fallen into the trap of comparing cruise lines and it has invariable led to disappointments early on in the cruise because every line has it's USPs and weaknesses. I try not to do that anymore. I have never sailed on NCL but have sailed on five different cruise lines and countless ships. RCL and Allure remain one of my favourites.
