All Things Jewel of the Seas

One thing I forgot to mention just getting off the Jewel, as I was leaving the dock, I looked back to see the desk with all the confiscated materials they return to you after the cruise and 90% of the items were extension cords and power strips, few irons for those new cruisers I am sure. I read somewhere on CC that said to take a power strip because of the lack of outlets but I would say that is a big no, no based on how many power strips were on that table. I brought a 6 port USB power cable that takes one outlet I would recommend bringing that and all your USB cords instead.

We use on of these multi port outlets, too. 3 USB and 3 power outlets. We've got a lot to keep charged, too, and this worked great: iphone, ipad, Galaxy notebook, insuling mini-fridge/cooler. That multi port charger came in very handy.

If you guys had to choose between Chops or Giovanni's, which would you choose and why? Trying to decide where to use our one specialty meal...

I think it varies per cruise sailing, or even by night. Sometimes Chops way outshines Giovannis, and sometimes it's the other way around. It's a crap shoot pretty much.

Going in blind...I usually end up with Chops if having only one choice. I love the Forest Mushroom soup and the steak.

On our last Jewel cruise, we had great service and food in Chops, but Givoannis was a disaster for service. Next time...could be the other way around.

We've always had great service in Chops on at least 6 different ships. My husband loves Italian food as much as he loves a good steak, and he always wants to go to Chops. He finds the pasta offerings in the Windjammer to be excellent, the arrabiatta sauce being his favorite.

Chops has a really excellent menu IMO, and on the Rhapsody last week I decided that the Key Lime Meringue Pie was the best dessert I have EVER had in my LIFE!!

we're on the 9/18/18 cruise too :)

have you joined our roll call on here?

I'm happy to help or answer anything crystalb.avon at gmail.com

Sing a lot makes a great point. Roll calls are real helpful in helping people, especially first timers on a particular ship.

Not even close. Chops by a landslide. Difference is like Olive Garden (being generous) vs Ruth's Chris.

Cheers

We too had a disaster in Givoannis. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope that other have a different experience.

While I have not been in Chops, I disagree with the assessment of Giovanni's. We ate at Giovanni's in December on the Navigator and it was a spectacular meal. This may vary from ship to ship, but our experience was wonderful.

Agreed. Every ship seems a tad different. We’ve had great and bad of all the different restaurants on different ships. We’ve had some of our best meals ever at each. (G’s and Chops). Both are superb when done right.

Fair enough. But since this was Jewell thread, I believe my comments based on my experience was worth noting.

I sincerely hope that our dinner was an exception to the rule and other ships have better quality food and service.

Of course!! I am hoping for as good an experience as I had on the Navigator when I sail the Jewel next month and will definitely report back! I may even try Chops depending on how our port days go - sometimes all I want after a long port day is a quick trip to the buffet!

I will be definitely trying Chops in about 19 days. I've had wonderful experiences with Chops on Freedom, Navigator, and Adventure, but underwhelming experiences on Allure and one less than stellar dinner on Oasis.

We've sailed on the Jewel three times. Ate in chops once. Nice quiet atmosphere. The appetizers, salad and the forest mushroom soup were all good. The steak was excellent. Cooked perfectly and tender and almost too much. But I did managed to eat it all. The sides were ok. The service was horrible ! Noted on our post cruise survey. Our SD wait staff were amazing.

I see in your signature X- Infinity. Isn't that a brand new ship not out yet?

Nope. The Infinity has been around since 2001. This September will be our second time on the Infinity. Celebrity's new ship the Edge is debuting in the fall of this year.

Just off the jewel. Couple of comments:

We had balcony room 8560 - there were only 2 electrical outlets in the entire cabin. Made charging phones and fixing hair for 4 girls challenging.

Skip the behind the scenes tour - boring and you don’t even get to go in the engine room just the bridge, laundry, kitchen and engine room office.

Andreas did ok. Not my favorite. Josh from activities was hysterical.

City of dreams show - kinda of like mediocre karaoke

West end to broadway show - much better although there is no coherent flow from scene to scene

Juggler is great

Mo5iac group is fabulous

We did chops and steaks were great so we tried to order the filet from the main menu the last night - not the same - not even cooked to correct temperature. Chops was worth it.

Solarium has food 24/7

Voom purchased in advance is cheapest

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your information! A few questions please:

- Do you know if the rooms have hair dryers?

- Also were Coke products still served? (vs. Pepsi)

- Is Starbucks coffee available for purchase?

This is relative but, were the cabins quiet enough to sleep - assuming you are not over a dining, casino or pool area etc - thinking of possibly bringing a small white noise machine

Thank you!

Hi everyone!

We will be sailing on the Jewel this June to the Greek Isles, and we are beyond excited.

I have a question regarding the food onboard: Someone recently posted photos of the wonderful seafood buffet offered at the Windjammer on the Navigator of the Seas. I’m curious if anyone has ever experienced this on the Jewel?

Thank you!

I've never seen it, but both of my Jewel cruise and the one in a week are in the Caribbean,

As I sit here thinking of getting back to Jewel in one week, my mind wanders to one of the great mysteries of sailing on Royal Caribbean that, as far as I know is unique to Jewel of the Seas. SHEET BACON! I like bacon! I can't count the number of times I've been to a Windjammer on a ship and grabbed the tongs and gotten a few strips of bacon. Back in April of 2012 I had by first breakfast in Jewel's WJ and I could tell something about the way they cooked the bacon on Jewel made it come out in sheet form with pieces not really well cut. With just the supplied tongs it could be difficult to grab anything less than 8-10 pieces at a time. If I only wanted 3-5 pieces, I would have to shake the tongs and try to get the excess bacon (never used those two words together before. ) to fall into the pan and not all over the counter. In 2014 day 1 no problem, but the remaining six days the sheet bacon was back and no free cruise was offered as compensation. In about 15 days, if Diamond does still get one free internet day, I might post a picture of this phenomena.

It sure beats the Carnival cruse I took last year, where they handed you bacon when you requested it (2 strips at a time).

Enjoy

Thanks for your response!

We saw the photos of what they were serving on the Navigator and were surprised because we had never seen that on Royal.

Last year we cruised on another line in the Mediterranean and they had a great seafood buffet one evening.
