Emerald Alaska 7/23 - non-review and food photos

We've been back from our Alaskan cruise on the Emerald Princess for over a week, and I'm finally getting around to posting. I don't feel like doing a full review, but I am happy to answer questions regarding the ship and itinerary.

We were celebrating my daughter's high school graduation. Our group consisted of my husband and myself, my three kids (18, 21, and 24) and a friend (also 24). We have all been to Alaska several times, except the friend who had never been to Alaska and had never cruised before.

We only did one big excursion - Orcas Cove Kayaking with Southeast Sea Kayaks. You can see my review with photos on the Alaska port of call board here. We rented a car in Skagway and drove into the Yukon. In Juneau we just shopped a little since our time in port was unfortunately shortened.

As usual, we took photos of most of our food. Since we had a group of 6 with diverse tastes, we ate a good variety of dishes. We pass the camera around as each course is served. Some may think we are weird, but I know the food porn is always appreciated here. We also steal bites from each other's plates and pass things around so everyone can try things. :D You can see all our food photos here. The food was all great!

Here's my beautiful family. I'm going to miss my baby girl when she heads off to college in 2 weeks, but I will always remember the good times we had together on this cruise!

I like that your family look like "regular" people. I like that about Princess in general. Glad you had a great time and try not to worry too much about your daughter. I know that's hard but...

You do seem to have a nice family. Congratulations. :D

Wow this is just like my family, we will be doing Alaska for the third time next summer for my son's high school graduation. I love that you guys take food pictures! So does my 20 year old daughter. Thanks for posting them!

You have a beautiful family. I'm sure you will always cherish these cruise memories with them. I know I do.

We were on the cruise ahead of you - I would have loved to have seen these pics before we sailed but we did manage to find many delicious items. We were at a table for 6 and often ordered an additional entree (or two) "for the table". We especially enjoyed the fettucini alfredo as a side for the wonderful seafood entrees. The fish disappointed but the shrimp, crab legs, scallops and such were very good. And that goat cheese soufle - to die for!

Sailing on the Star Princess at the end of the month. LOVED your food porn. The whole family knows how to handle a camera well, (y)...so many great shots.

The meals looked wonderful, and we can't wait to sample a lot of what we saw on your tables. The 12oz steak and the Filet Minion, I assume were at one of the specialty restaurants?

It is hard sending the 'little ones' off into the world, but that's why we bring them up to be self-sufficient and confident.

Sherryf, My favourite dish on princess is actually the French Onion soup, the photo made me quite hungry. It is fun to look at and remember all of the dishes. The crispy vege spring rolls are always good, the sauce is fantastic and more like a Vietnamese spring roll sauce. The prosciutto and melon is always good, I look forward to my next trip.

Love the food pics.

We are doing the Emerald September 2018 and was worried about some of the food reviews.

We're these pictures from specialty dining or main dining room?

The last set of dinner photos are from the Crown Grill. I think I indicated that in the descriptions. There are a few from Annabelle's in Ketchikan and one burger photo from Carcross. Those should be noted as such also.

We were very happy with the food. There are a few dishes that I avoid because I've had poor experiences with them in the past, but my older son ate them and said they were good.

We weren't going to go to any specialty restaurants, but we were given a voucher for dinner for 2 for our anniversary from Princess. We ditched the kids the last night and enjoyed the Crown Grill without them. I should see if I can get their dinner photos from that night and add them to my collection.

Loved your food pictures! For some reason I only took a couple on our recent cruise, so it was wonderful to remember some of our favorites dishes through your pictures.

I hope you don't mind my asking a technical question. How did you put in a link (in blue) to the Alaska thread? I'm planning on posting my first review, and don't know how to link to another thread.

What a wonderful way to spend time with your family before your daughter goes to college! It will be a trip she'll always remember.

Copy the URL of the page you want to link. Select the word that you want to use as the "blue word" - I used the word "here". Click on the little icon that looks like an earth with a chain under it. A little window will pop up asking you to insert the URL. Paste in the URL that you copied earlier, and click OK. Voila!

Thanks so much! ( I'm bookmarking this, and will give it a go when I'm ready to post my review.)
