Recommended Posts

Are you on the Pride out of Baltimore? I'm Going with my mother also. Glad I'm not the only one!

Have fun.

Same here. Driving over from WV Saturday and spending the night at a nearby hotel. I'm nervous about what we might be driving into though.

We live in Houston and just finished the Harvey drama, and we're sailing out of Galveston on the 9th on the Freedom to the Bahamas. I hope the trip isn't cancelled we really need a break

Our best wishes to your family and friends in Houston. I hope life is starting to get some normalcy to it.

Looking at the latest cone, which extends to the hurricane being just north of Cuba, traveling toward Florida on the 9th... I'd be expecting a refund and planning another cruise right about now. I think I rather be canceled if the hurricane is going to cause rough seas anyway, because I'd worry. Good luck.

What source are you using?

Actually, let me read what you wrote more closely: Why would you be expecting a refund if at the time of sail-away the disruptive edge of the storm was still almost 300 miles from Port Canaveral and slowing down?

I have a question to anyone that has experience in hurricanes.... How far out is the wind shear felt? I'm worried that our flight that morning is going to be canceled due to high winds even though the cruise will still embark normally.

The solution seems to be to try to fly in Friday night, but then what if the hurricane comes earlier and the cruise is delayed or canceled and now I'm stuck in Florida during a hurricane?

Experience has shown that Carnival seems to make very last minute decisions on these things, so I'm trying to look out for myself.

Airlines do tend to cancel flights into the area early in order to keep planes from being stuck in the path but I would be hesitant to make a change at this time. At least wait another day. Still too soon to make a good call. I would be concerned about making that move and getting stuck in Florida at this time. Just too hard to tell right now. I would also wait for airlines to waive change fees, That should be happening by tomorrow or Wednesday if impact looks more probable.

Obviously, I'm hoping like everyone else that it just makes a sharp right turn to the north and dies in the Atlantic, but every source I'm reading looks like Florida is most likely to get hit. Here's another one, this one showing it's most likely to hit Florida, and another reliable source. Best advice, which has been discussed already, is to create your plan B now, and for me that would include looking at alternative cruises.

Yup, that's the same as what I'm using. I don't see any reason to believe that Saturday cruises out of Port Canaveral are going to be canceled with refunds granted, especially given what we saw last week with Harvey.

It's not that clear cut. It's still too soon to say. There is still a chance this thing is sitting further north on Friday night. The ship is probably going to leave port on Saturday, though. However, I'm not sure I would want to be on it. It will be on the NE side and will be in heavy surf most of the time. Unless storm turns well earlier than the models are currently indicating, it will possibly be hanging on the coast and the ship will have to burn like a bat out of hell well east of the Bahamas. At this point, best case might be if you have insurance, to have you flights canceled by the storm and have the insurance kick in.

I have the same worry about getting stuck in FL during a hurricane. Mine is Carnival Victory which is supposed to leave on Monday 9/11 and I'm flying in on 9/10-supposed to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale around 1:20pm and stay with a relative in West Palm area and she was going to bring me to the Miami port Monday morning. I just hope Carnival will make a decision early enough so that those flying in don't get stuck in it. I'm from Maine, I don't really have much experience with hurricanes as not many make it up here and if they do, they have died down quite a bit and aren't nearly as destructive.

I am booked on the Glory out of Miami on the 9th. Really not looking so hot for Miami at this point. Please keep in mind evacuations. 75/95 could likely be flipped to all one way traffic out. Port Canaveral, Orlando and all areas north will be booking up rooms for evacuees. Be cautious of availability, Port Canaveral will likely be OK on Saturday to both unload and reload. They will move out of any projected path but won't port anywhere that may have suffered any damages from Irma. If you are traveling South to Aruba Curacao there is another system out there. Not sure if it has formed more or not they are really covering Irma. I would park at the highest possible level if leaving a vehicle. Have fun for me too cuz it sure ain't looking good for me to take my cruise and I was so needing that cruise!

Recent advisories don't look good for Florida.. and I should be leaving vista on the 9th. I will call Wednesday and stress to them the importance of making a decision before thousands fly in and potentially get stuck there. Another concern of mine is winds and storm surge (is that the correct wording?) speaking of the waves here... I don't really want to be on a rocky ship, especially after what Anthem of the Seas went through. I guess I'll just wait it out.. what a sticky situation!

We are on that same trip. I don't know what to do. Supposed to be driving to Florida on Friday, also kind of nervous about leaving my vehicle parked there if the hurricane does hit Port Canaveral. At this point I'm honestly just hoping they will cancel, I'd rather reschedule than be worried or disappointed about the weather the whole time.

Well crap. I didn't even think about the car. We are on the 9/9 Magic and are also driving down on Friday. I have been so focused on whether or not we will sail, the thought about the car never crossed my mind. I may just park at the airport and shuttle to the port. I would think it would be a safer option but I could be wrong. Seems like being 45 mins inland would pose less of a likelihood of coming back to a damaged vehicle.

We have kicked around the idea of doing a rental car and leaving our own car safe at home. But we will wait and decide that if there is any threat to Galveston when we leave at the end of the month. It might be worth the cost, especially if you could do a one way rental each way and not have to pay for the 7 days the car would be parked at the port.

Just FYI......the parking garage at Port Canaveral is several levels high with most all under cover.

My husband and I, along with our children are to be on the liberty that sails out the 10th. We are to fly in the 9th into Orlando.I've been calling Carnival but unable to reschedule date or even to a port in Cali. I have insurance but they are saying I will need to have it cancelled to get a refund. I was told to fly out and they will decide as it comes to sailing date!! We were so excited, now we are concerned. We have done many cruises, but this is our first with the kids. Does anyone know how close to sail date they'd cancel? I thought insurance covered you??

Any one else departing from Tampa to Havana Thursday the 7th? Not looking good. Anxiously watching and waiting.

We are also on Thursday's cruise to Cuba. Anxiously awaiting any news .

We are too! I will be disappointed if the cruise is cancelled or taken to another port. I won't be disappointed in Carnival they have to do what is safe for the crew and the passengers, but the only reason we booked this cruise is to go to Cuba. Keeping my fingers crossed. (yn)

I actually hope they cancel the cruise rather than divert it . I have no interest in going to Cozumel .I guess we will see on Wednesday .

you're all going to drive yourselves crazy talking about cruises being cancelled, highways being blocked in Florida, not able to cruise if it hits here or there .... we are all hoping for the best but all this stressing out... unless i missed something.. have they actually said its hitting Florida, and it will be this weekend?

here is the latest i have read... this is as of 22 minutes ago or 2pm EST Monday.. note it says IF it hits florida, it will likely be one week from today.. Monday. Carnival will not cancel cruises on saturday or sunday, if there is nothing happening till Monday or later. Just as this week, they will change itineraries in almost all cases. Here are two of MANY articles i have read and every one of them say.. at the moment.. we do not know

(cnn.com) Florida governor says be prepared

It's too soon to know the impact Irma could have on the continental United States, where no warnings or watches are currently in effect.

"Regardless, everyone in hurricane-prone areas should ensure that they have their hurricane plan in place, as we are now near the peak of the season," the National Hurricane Center said.

Chinchar said Irma could impact not just the eastern coast of Florida, but also farther up the east coast.

"IFthere was a US landfall, we're talking a week from today," Chinchar said Monday.

(express.co.uk)

Meteorologist Jeff Lindner, who has been dealing with flooding in Harris County, Houston, said Florida should watch the path of Hurricane Irma.

Asked if he was concerned about Irma, he tweeted: “Not for us at the moment...but FL and the SE US should be paying attention.”

I'm not stressed - we leave for FL tomorrow night. :) I've also scheduled a doctor's appointment with a specialist on Wednesday, then board the ship on Thursday. I understand all too well it's still a little early, but that doesn't mean I'll be a disappointed if the ship is diverted or cancelled.

That's why I said, "There is no reason to believe..."

It's still too soon to say.
It is surely to soon to say anything that is contrary to the current projected path.

There is still a chance this thing is sitting further north on Friday night.
But a smaller chance than is prudent to put front and center at the time I posted the message to which you replied.
