Crusing in cold areas like baltic

Hi,

I‘m a newby in the crusing business ;), I cruised once on the Epic last summer and I enjoyed it. The whole week we had about 30 C. The most people spent the whole sea day and time around the excursions on the pool deck.

Now, I‘m interested in a baltic cruise on the Breakaway and just wondering what the people do on cold sea days. Does NCL offer more inside entertainment? Is it much crowded inside the ship?

regards

We just got back from the Baltic in September. That particular cruise is very port intensive so we only had 2 sea days out of 9. On the first sea day, we went to our Meet and Greet, and the casino. We also had a nice lunch. We were in the Haven, so did not notice crowds. I would recommend a pass to the thermal spa which is wonderful on cold sea days. I also booked one evening dinner show so we would not be so tired after touring all day. We were on the Getaway so not sure what shows are offered which days on the Breakaway. From my perspective, there was a lot to do. The Baltic is awesome!

what month do you want to go? sometimes it is warmer then you think. thought the same this year wih the jade in norway in july. but the days were sunny and it was possible to use the pool and the outside area every day, sometimes with a blanket in a chair.

i booked the breakaway for next year.

I did a Baltic cruise last July— the weather was beautiful— not necessarily hot, but very nice. I cruise from NYC every year in February and twice it’s been single digits (in F)— that’s cold! Baltics could potentially be cool, but it’s not a given. The only time I needed a jacket on deck was at 3am on deck entering the Stockholm archipelago.

If you are a pool person then don't do it., you will be bored.

We did the Baltic on the Getaway in July of this year and loved it. The weather, while not hot, was completely comfortable and allowed nice long walks on the deck in the evening with the extremely long days (near Finland, the sun never went down).

The cruise is very port intensive though so you'll definitely enjoy the 2 sea days to relax, soak in the hot tub which we did on many evenings, etc. If you're on one of the newer ships, a couple of the ships have the nice outdoor area with seating to sit and enjoy the sunshine.

I think there were maybe 2 days that I needed my coat but it wasn't a super heavy one and I didn't need it except for some longer walks when it was a little windy.

I am cruising on the Breakaway to the Baltic area late Sept of 2018. This will be my first non Caribbean area cruise. My question is about menus. Since we are cruising in a different region, are the menus different than what I would find in the Caribbean? Haven't been able to find anything on the boards yet, but I am continuing to look. Thanks for any info.

  • 3 weeks later...

we did the baltics on the Star in the spring. We actually had unseasonably warm temps. all of us had packed layers and warm clothes and sweated! we only had i think 1, maybe 2 sea days and trust me, you were exhausted after the intensity of the ports that the rest was welcomed.

There won't be much of a difference, the menus are fleetwide.
