Just off the 14 day breakaway cruise

Hey everyone! I just decided to make a post to put my 2 cents in and to answer any questions or concerns anyone has.

I noticed before this cruise embarked there was alot of anger, confusion and just mixed emotions from everything. We heard numerous cruisers on the ship complaining they will never sail Norwegian again. I just have to say, not one incident that happened had anything to do with norwegian. It was out of their control. First, the horrible storm that caused many problems. The ship docked overnight to try and gt everyone on the ship which is not very common for ships to do. Some people still missed and I understand the frustration but NCL did everything they could to wait. Then on the way there somebody needs blood transfusions and immediate evacuation when we were within a day to port. That says enough what shape that person was in. But yet people were pissed over how we missed aruba because of it. Somebodys life was on the line! So they refunded the port fees, missed day from the beginning, AND offered everyone on board a 25% discount on a cruise booked within a year.

And I read many people complaining about service. After the horror show from the storm with crew working virtually 24 hours a day, When we boarded the ship it was like nothing ever happened. They were all so understanding and so friendly. I said form the start I would be extra nice to them because they probably went through hell, but they didnt show it.

Me and my girlfriend LOVE sea days so we didnt mind the change. We completely understand the anger about the ports but it was a hurricane, and then a storm/evacuation. All things that are out of everyones control. I definitely understand the anger of the people that had to get flown into aruba and then to caracao.

The Ropes course opened far into the cruise for about 3 days if I remember. We were a little bummed out that the slides were down but they were damaged in the storm so again theres nothing we can do about that. Dinners in the restaurants did take a while. Dinners were probably around an hour and a half. We didnt mind that at all. If you want a fast dinner theres the buffet or Osheehans. We liked the fact it felt like a real restaurant. Sometimes it did take a while for food to come out though. Specialty restaurants were great. Got the lobster at Ocean Blue and it was incredible. Also went to le bistro which we loved and cagneys which was pretty good. Wouldnt get the porterhouse again though. Still very very satisfied. I didnt feel the casino was that smoky. In certain areas and at times of day it smelt more than others. I feel like it just depends on the cruise and how many people smoke. Ours was luckily very manageable.

We only got to see rock of ages because we made friends and had late dinners together every night but that show was very very good. I am sure the others were as well. We loved the parties up at Spice H2O. Partying under the warm clear night skies was amazing. We found for sun tanning to go to the top deck all the way to the front of the ship. There was always chairs available there.

I cant really think of anything else to write about. Just ask if you have any questions. But, overall it was an amazing vacation and met amazing friends. A lot of wrong things may have happened but it was all out of anyones control and NCL did the best they can in my opinion to make it right. The crew always deserves 10/10. They work so hard and deserve to be recognize.

If anybody that was on the cruise wants to put a face to the name I was the guy who got suckered in by romeo to get dressed up as the girl in battle of the sexes before that girl ripped my balloons and wig off! Ask any questions you have if you have them!

Sugar, right? Lol. I was the girl that popped your boobs and pulled your wig off. Sorry. All in fun. Lol.

I agree on the porterhouse at Cagneys. Mine was served well done.

Well said, thank you for sharing ... understood - giving credits to all those vacation heros when it's overdue. This is the same Captain being shafted for his seamanship the week before ... his decision to divert and skip a port matter, it likely/probably/made a difference ... in making a choice to save a life, priceless !

The waterslides and rope courses, even in perfect calm seas and zero wind conditons, aren't always open - and closed when conditions aren't safe - I simply don't understand what some are thinking of ... 15+ stories above. DW sleeps better rocking & rolling, even when we had 15' waves & gale force wind.

Memo to those afraid of sailing in the ocean with any kind of "rough" weather - please, book ... deck 5 midship, an inside - very little chance of flooding ... unless someone jammed the plumbing lines & created a blockage.

Thank you for the nice and true review, my DH and I feel the same about the cruise and the cruise team who 's doing great job non stop.

Really appreciate Master decisions about sick person on board and change of course on our way back home due to the new storm.

NCL shows the real care of the passengers and their safety.

Have asked but nobody has been able to confirm the Captain but somebody gave the name D. Svensson who was definitely not Captain Matko on your cruise. There were letters to the cabins signed by the Captain but no-one has come back verifying who is Master. Maybe one of the returning cruisers can confirm? On this cruise guests complimenting Captain for frequent and informative announcements, the exact opposite of what we heard from your cruise. Good to hear there

was an improvement.

To OP, thank you for your comments. Did you attend the Meet and Greet?

Any standout waiters you would recommend?

Does anyone by chance have copies of the MDR menus? For 14 nights there are ones we don't see too often. Thanks! We board on Feb. 2.

Master was Captain Matko Candrlic on our 01.05.2018 - 01.19.2018 cruise, he gave enough information to us during each day.

Great review. Very honest. Read a review from a woman who was on the same sailing (I read her review on cruise life on Facebook.). All she did was complain. She said how people save every nickel and dime to go on vacation and they feel they didn't get their monies worth. I replied "if you were on a land vacation and it rained every day would you be looking for a refund from the resort. Anyway, I'm glad you made the best of your vacation.

We did see a lot of happy and smiled faces around, did not hear any complaint on board. A lot of people enjoyed their vacation and "they did get their monies worth" :) I guess it depends on what kind of thoughts people have: one is trying to get the best of the situation, another is trying to ruine everything.

I’m aboard now, and he is still the Master...

He is making announcements every day and sometimes an update...

Thank you for the great report! We are looking forward to trying Ocean Blue as we missed it on our last Breakaway cruise. Sounds like you had a good time!

Absolutely make sure you try Ocean Blue! the crab claws were overrated especially after having the crab legs and lobster! We bought the UDP so we stocked up on appetizers!

Thanks for your great review! Looking forward to my first time on the Breakaway in March!

You will have a blast! Loved the mega ship after sailing on the gem. Would sail either again. Was nervous about the cruise based on others reviews but it was an absolute blast. Have fun!

I did not attend the Meet and greet but we wish we did! Honestly I cannot point any individual out. They were all incredible but throughout the MDR, we felt the manhatten room had the best service. Don't let that throw you off though. The other MDR were not far behind at all. You will have a blast. Unfortunately dont have a copy. If you go on beyondships2.com they have copies of dinner menus but only for one night.
