First time in a suite

Since you are in a suite you just show up at port; once you get thru security and head up to check in there is a special line for suite guests. Once you get sea card you will be escorted to the elite area; where someone from the ship will allow you to board early. My wife and I did this last year.quote]

The "once you get through secrurity" is the issue!! You will still have to wait in the line to go through security. Sometimes the line is short but other times it can be an our or more. Suite or elite does not get you to the front of that line.

Momaboss, I noticed on an older thread that you had sailed in R405 on the Crown. Can you tell me whether noise from the Lido above was an issue? We just took an upsell offer, and I'm reading mixed reports.

Sorry for butting in on the thread, but this seemed like the best way to ask.

Jim

Yes, I have sailed in those Riviera suites a few times, I can't remember the numbers but they were closer to 400. I am a light sleeper and the scraping of chairs and clickity, clack of heels at 2, 3, 4, 5:00am has me using earplugs. I have no problems when I use them. If I dont, I'm awake off and on all night. I really don't recall any noise in the daytime from Lido. This cruise coming up next week I am in a handicap suite R417 and that is further down then 405, 407 etc. Maybe not as much noise at night, we will see. Then I move to suite R404 for the second segment so I know there will be noise there. As you see, I don't let it stop me from booking them if the upsell price is right, lol. Makes you wonder though, why put penthouse suites right under the pool and chairs?

Basic question. Is a mini suite on Princess actually considered to be a "suite" with amenities as outlined in this thread -- a complimentary dinner, etc.? Thank you. I've booked a mini suite on a short coastal cruise -- just to try it and surprise my DH. Your input is appreciated.

We booked a mini suite for our Hawaiian cruise and feel SO GRATEFUL we were able to get it. No, they aren't a real suite but still wonderful. You have plenty of room to move around. The bathroom is bigger then the regular balcony and so is the closet. You even get a welcome glass of champagne. You'll love it.

You are totally correct; they don't split the masses until you pass thru security screening

Hi everyone; let me give you a run down of what we received in our suite last July. We were in a two bedroom family suite. On embarkation day; we were the first to board; We were on emerald princess; I walked down to crown grill and made a dinner reservation; they were very accommodating and said whatever you want you get; they also told us to come back for breakfast; the breakfast menu in crown grill is small; but you can order whatever you want and they will make it; so don't worry about what is listed on menu. You can swap out your mini bar; we just told our room steward and he called room service; they arrived within twenty minutes; they swapped out our mini bar for sodas. Since we had two teens we got rid of the booze. They restocked our sodas all week and we were not charged for anything. four bottles of water per day was delivered; along with a fruit basket and hor dourver's every day. My wife and granddaughter each had a corsage for the first formal night; along with free dry cleaning. Club Class dining was great; we were seated witihin a minute; so never waited for a table. We also received a invitation to go to the elite lounge every night. All the perks were very nice. Since this was a two bedroom suite; both our grandkids and us received matching perks. There were usually two fruit baskets and two plates of snacks every day. We ordered breakfast through room service once; it arrived ontime and was hot.

We have been on many different Princess ships , all in full suites & have never had our sodas restocked & we also change out our mini bar for all sodas.

We were told last Oct. on the Star that you have to ask your cabin guy for the waters to be replaced everyday and sign a request for them daily. We were never charged for the water.

We will be on the Emerald the end of this April. Hopefully we will receive all the good service you received.

Only once did we have a cabin guy that was a little off. I had to keep asking for stuff over & over. For instance, it took him 3 days for him to get me more qutips. I would never have complain, because he had a great attitude.

They used to long ago, maybe it was15 years ago? All you had to do was print your boarding pass with the green "preferred" top and carry it so the port staff could see it. When spotted, they escorted us to the front of the line where the preferred line split off without question or delay.

It was really nice to get out of the cab, drop off our bags, walk into the building and onto the ship usually in 15 minutes or less. No longer the case. It's still pretty quick depending on the length of the line but the preferred waiting lounge is a joke. Sure coffee / water and some pastries on a table but the room was hot and stuffy last time. It was also filled with cranky elites who didn't want to be inconvenienced in any way.

There was a funny moment though - when they started to board the person started with the side that had come in last. You should have seen the canes in the air and grumblings of "...we were here first!..." As though a couple more minutes was really going to matter while the other pax walked out and onto the ship.

If there are 3 adults in suite do you get 3 bottles of water per day?

Sent from my SM-T813 using Forums mobile app

We had 3 people in the suite and there were 3 bottles on the counter each night. If we had used them all, 3 new ones appeared. If one or more had not been used, only the number needed to total 3 were replaced.

I'm guessing from this post that you've done your "suite" cruise - so, how was it? We have a window suite (our first) this August & are looking forward to the perks!

It is different in Australia , first stop after dropping off luggage is to go to priority deck get cruise card, general very quick, then to security, where you are in a different area where you wait for a few minutes before being lead in the front of the line to go through security, then on board, best time is 15 minutes from getting out of the car to standing in our suite.

It is the only way to travel, only 191 days till our time in a suite

Cheers Don

The perks were great. The room is not like the suites we've seen on other cruise lines--it was really just a big room. There is no separation between the bed and living areas...not a deal for us since with 3, we were using the fold out couch. Actually that couch was the only bad thing in the room. Disney has flip couches that make into a much better bed. On Princess, this was like the old fashioned fold out couches but it makes into a twin bed, leaving the mechanism exposed on the sides. I put the girls in the twins so they could talk, etc. at night. In fairness, I had some difficulty getting out of the bed without hitting body parts on the mechanism. Also, since we were in the HA window suite, we did not have a tub. We had the large, walk in shower which we needed. No bath salts (I was hoping to take them home....oh well).

Other than that, all was great. We ate in the Crown Grill the first night--yummy. After that, Club Class dining was wonderful. It was definitely a return to the old fashioned service of 20 years ago on cruise ships. We ate many of the "special" items--all were good. Breakfast at Sabatini's was wonderful. We traded the mini-bar for 2 coffee cards---no expiration date, no voyage or ship name on them. Laundry service was super; we sent stuff out twice during the 10 days. Priority embarkation and tendering was not a huge thing; there were no lines for either when we used them. The Suite/Elite reception each evening was a nice break in the day. We had a live orchid in the cabin and fresh cut carnations in the bathroom. Again, nice touch. The upgraded toiletries were very nice, replaced as we used them. The one funky thing--I assumed that "thermal suite access" was a length of cruise pass. I was told at the spa and at Passenger Services that it was a one day use and must be on a port day.

The location is great--very quiet. Only people with the window suites and the room host are ever in that hall. We never saw the doors propped open, had no problem with smoke, noise, or anything else. It is a convenient location to everything. Just be careful on formal nights--when you open the door to the hallway, there is a large photo light right outside the door. It's not a problem as long as you are careful.

Yeah, the suite life is.....well, sweet.

Internet service was slow and unreliable. Fortunately, I won't be paying for it in the future as we're platinum now. MUTS--sometimes great, sometimes the sound was so low that we couldn't hear the movie. But the movies were on the free "PPV" system, so if MUTS didn't work, we could watch them in the room. They were also repeated in the theatre the next day on several occasions.

Steward was OK, but not totally together on the first day. Passenger services kept telling me to refer to a letter...that wasn't placed in our room till day 2. We had to ask for laundry bags. We never got the menu to order the canapes or the in room breakfast (not a big deal..way too much food and we liked Sabatini's). But he kept the room neatened, towels replaced, etc. which was the important part.

We will be arriving 5 days before our cruise. Would we be crazy to send laundry out embarkment day?

We did exactly that. We filled that laundry bag and left it for our steward that first evening.

Just a FYI, don't be alarmed by a huge laundry charge added to your onboard account. Seems they add the charge to your account, then credit it back to you the next day. Even though, I hand washed our intimates, we had a $80+ charge for that first batch of laundry (from the 5 days we spent in Sydney before the cruise). I added the total charges for our 13 day cruise and they would have amounted to over $400 for the 2 of us.

In Sydney last month, we not only had the priority check in & security check but also had an escort waiting to show us to our suite. First Class!!

To the several people who answered my query regarding whether or not a mini suite is a suite for amenity purposes, thank you. I appreciate it. It is a coastal cruise on Thanksgiving weekend -- SU to TH -- and I am sure we will enjoy it, a covered one on the Emerald Deck, I believe. So much to be thankful for.
