Now You see them...Now you don't ???

I have booked a guaranteed Ocean View cabin on Nieuw Amsterdam- sailing the end of March. we have not sailed on HAL in ages but have done guaranteed cabins in the past with other lines and every line is different. So I have read a lot on the boards to find out more about cabin assignments. with HAL.. and I read many who have sailed with HAL that within 2-3 weeks you may see your cabin #.

Since we are now about 3 weeks away and to add to my excitement I have begun checking for our room assignment. As of last night, since I had no cabin assignment yet, I looked to see what was still available, it appeared there were still 13 cabins for sale in Ocean view category so I assumed it must be one of those. I went onto the website tonight and all of the Ocean View cabins now show as sold out??? Is that an indication that we would see our cabin assignment and that they pulled them off for that reason? Is it possible for 13 cabins to sell overnight and I know the inside cabins are gone as well but those have been sold out for a while. So is this how HAL does it... pull a group to assign??? Any info would be appreciated

They could be re-assiging - enough guarantees that it is sold out.

As KK said, this is typical when a category needs to be assessed.

In a day or two you may see those cabins available again.

But, do check your luggage tags as she said. Experience is that your room number will be there before it shows on your express docs. No idea why. that just seems to be the way it is.

One possible scenario: there were 13 unassigned, so someone could choose any one of them, but there were 12 guarantees outstanding. One more sells and the category is sold out. At three weeks out HAL is trying to do upsells, so if someone takes an upgrade, tomorrow there will then be 12 available for choosing. In about another week whatever is left will be assigned to the guarantees.

One other quick question we had to book through TA to use our points...I was told on other cruises with other cruise lines...upsells/changes could only be made with the TA...Is that the case with HAL---they would never contact us directly even though in our reservation it said we would consider upgrades would it would have to come through TA if upsells were offered? I don't think we would change but one never knows what would be offered.

If you booked through a TA then all contacts must be through them.

Upsells come through your TA - our upgrade to a Neptune a couple of years ago just appeared on our booking 4 days before sailing.... I called our TA, she checked with HAL, and we all squealed with delight!

Well, not quite squealed but there was a bit of a happy dance going on....

Absolutely correct but all TA do not necessarily realize this. Yesterday, my TA forwarded an upsell offer from HAL. I called the TA. She said I had to call HAL. I told her that was incorrect then I called HAL. HAL called the TA. The TA called me. I took the upsell.

Well that was efficient! [emoji6]Time to get a new TA? I think I’d be too happy about my upsell. Congrats!

I normally use a different TA but decided to give this one some business just to see. Not again. I emailed her about the stockholders credit and she gave me the fax number. I email the documentation to my other TA and she happily handles it.

We're very pleased with the upsell. We received an offer a couple of weeks ago but passed on it as asking too much. I was surprised to see this offer yesterday at less than half the price of the first offer. We'll be sailing in a Pinnacle for less than $2400 PP for seven days.

Was on NA in December and got assigned 10 days prior however in the day before boarding we got an upgrade without notice. It pays to keep checking.

I was told that 10 days prior to sailing is the "standard" for assigning guarantee rooms. Of course upgrades can still occur.

Thank you all for the info...I doubt I will get the call I don't think this TA will get the info and know what to do with it:(. I wish I could have used a TA of our choosing but we could not---or if we could have used HAL but since we had to use our airline points we had to use their services but that is OK we booked on a whim and we know we will have Ocean view and we will more importantly be on a cruise ---it will be our Anniversary trip and we sailed on HAL for our honeymoon 39 years ago in an inside cabin with single beds lol---so no matter what cabin we have we will have a great time. I believe it's the vacation and who you share it with....the cabin is just the room.

Just keep checking your luggage tags -- the cabin assignments usually show up there first.

Thanks for that tip! Our friends all had their cabin assignments before January, for March sailing, while we did not. I called HAL in January,

and they said we might get an email, or cabin (Neptune Suite) might even be assigned when we boarded with possible upgrade.

Just off the phone with HAL. Only upsell available right now is a Neptune- difference from VH Gty to it? $2319.00 pp! Baahaha! No thanks! If I do the USD to CND conversion, it’s about a gagillion dollars! ;)

IRT TA’s? I booked directly with HAL this time, as last time I spent much too much time giving my TA a tutorial on how and when to interact with HAL! And my only “perk” was an onboard gift of $20.00 casino voucher. We don’t gamble!:')
