What did you LOVE / HATE about the Getaway ???

Reading all the responses has me wishing we didn't have to wait until November! We are doing the Nov. 25th sailing ( week after Thanksgiving ) so I am not sure how crowded the ship will be. I am hoping not too bad since we are doing a few days at Universal before the cruise. Now THAT will be crowded!

I've been on the Getaway twice (once in '15 in an Aft facing balcony, and again in '16 in a Haven Spa Suite), and we absolutely LOVE the Getaway! I do miss the Grammy Experience, and I agree with everyone that mentions the smoke-filled atrium (and the lack of seating), but other than that I feel as though the ship is perfect. The waterfront is incredible, and if you also want a more "private" stroll around the perimeter of the ship, believe it or not the deck that the lifeboats are on (I believe deck 6?) is awesome.

The mojito bar is one of my favorites. The ambiance of the entire waterfront is just spectacular. And the waterslides! I'm 34 Y/O, and I literally outride the kids that are on the ship LOL. They're so much fun.

I feel your pain - my next cruise is also the week after Thanksgiving on the Bliss, and I cannot wait! Have an amazing time - the Getaway is a fantastic ship.

Hated: Using the atrium as a space for entertainment. So tacky bringing out folding chairs. I missed a true promenade deck as well to walk.

Loved: Piano/Comedy club

Oh you are so right. I wish I could amend my post. There is some great entertainment in the atrium but if you don't get there an hour early, you cant see it. The ship has no Bliss lounge so the smaller entertainment shows are in the atrium which has limited seating and you cant see through all the heads looking down either.

Horrible idea and small venues.

I also did not like how crammed all the specialty restaurant tables are. You are just one foot away from your neighbor. Specialty dining used to be quiet and intimate but they cram you in there like cattle

We also waited for drinks at the Mojito bar. It seemed they need way more hands.

I'd have to say that the main pool area/deck is a real issue for us, but otherwise we have enjoyed alot on this ship and the sister ship Breakaway.

We really enjoy the Freestyle, the more casual dress approach, the dining venues, The Haven and Vibe.

We think that they make pretty good drinks, and that the staff is attentive.

And, often overlooked, the ship itself has a nice comfortable ride in the waters.

We enjoyed the Getaway a lot. In fact, we sailed the exact same itinerary the last two years; not necessarily because we wanted to go to the same islands, but it was what worked out for a family celebration cruise.

The Great: Million Dollar Quartet! I could watch it again and again. The dance show was great too.

The food was very good. The first cruise we didn't eat at any specialty restaurant and never had a bad meal. I loved watching the rope course and wanted to do it, but didn't make it the first because scheduling and the second cruise because am still recovering from a broken ankle.

This Dec. we did have a dining package and enjoyed all but one of the restaurants. (See The Not so good.)

Service was great . Liked the casual atmosphere. We could always find a lounge chair; probably because we don't even want to be by the pool

The Not as Good: (can't complain too much when on a cruise). No real promenade deck. Small balcony; room was fine. Cagney's meal for two of us was awful. Although the two main shoes were wonderful, they were performed twice; the other nights were bad. I have never seen such awful comedians. The noise level in the Atrium when something was going on was horrible; since the internet cafe was there, couldn't hear a thing.

I wish they had shown movies in a theater or out doors.

I did not hate anything. However the things that were not as great as Epic.

No tiered seating in Spice H20

Smaller spa

Smaller Haven plus no ocean views from Haven lounge

Gym and nightclub seem an afterthought compared to Epic

Open air restaurants to public walkways not as good as closed ones on Epic

What I loved

The waterpark

The waterfront boardwalk

The cake place

What did you eat at the cake place? :)

We were on a TA Copenhagen to Miami last November and we had an enjoyable cruise. The ship felt very crowded, in spite of its size. Our aft balcony was large enough, with two lounge chairs. Spent a lot of time there. We are over 80 and have outgrown the night life. Don’t drink, don’t gamble. A glass of Sherry on the balcony - no wind way aft, what more do we need?

Two things we did like:

The Asian Section in the buffet and - wait for it - the little coffee machine that uses individual coffee pods and brews one mug of coffee in 4 minutes. Bought one within a week of coming home. Now I can brew my own coffee, even though I am visually handicapped.

Loved: My studio cabin. Million Dollar Quartet, Burn the Floor, the Buffet. Tropicana Dining Room. (Didn't eat at any specialty restaurants, except Margaritaville before the pricing changes, which we loved. The Mojitos at Sugarcane bar. Fun activities and game shows in the way-too-crowded Atrium ( so I guess it's also a "Did not Love."). Appearance and cleanliness of ship.

Did not Love: Smoke emanating from the casino. Strange pool deck and pool area. Gift shops - no one mentions this but it was my first NCL cruise and I would have liked to see more logo merchandise and less "luxury" items. Lack of lounge/space without something loud and crowded occurring. All the typos and inaccuracies in the Daily paper. Unresponsiveness of guest services/housekeeping on the phone.

Food was all good to excellent depending on tastes and location with the exception of O'Dogfoodhans.

Drinks were all solid, although the beer selection is still locked hopelessly in the early 90's (I'm pretty sure a Red Dog or Zima bar is next when Margaritaville moves on).

Service all pretty stellar, though the deck bars and the bar near the cigar lounge (extra traffic from smokers outside) are WOEFULLY understaffed during busy hours. You can find windows to squeeze in but 10-15 minute waits were not abnormal the entire cruise. Tip a server well and they'll find you so you can avoid the bar line, especially at Spice H2O.

Packs of feral children. I'm glad they had a blast, but their parents need a spanking for being inconsiderate a-holes.

The gym sucks. It seemed MUCH smaller than Epic.

It is a very large ship. I prefer the Jewel class ships as being more manageable.

The pool deck seemed claustrophobic to me. There were just too many structures. It was very closed in.

Overall it was fine.

LOL, this made me chuckle. We cruised Thanksgiving week and must say it wasn't too bad with the kids (we had one said "feral child" with us).

Likes:

We liked Tropicana dining room, service was very good and quick there, we usually dine on the later side.

We liked the water slides and ropes course

Shanghai was pretty good BUT located in the casino and smoke filled, ugh.

We liked the buffet, good variety and tasty Indian/Asian food.

Mojitos bar was nice and on the Waterfront.

Coffee drinks (extra $) at the Atrium bar

Washy-washy lady at the buffet, always a good time

Staff was always smiling and greeting us nicely

Loved Burn the Floor and the Farewell show, book them!

Cleanliness of common areas and bathrooms was always good, 5 stars here.

Dislikes:

Pool deck, much too small pool and a few raunchy games, but we could always find a place in the shade

Long line for ropes course

Smoke from the casino permeated surrounding areas and at time atrium area. As I mentioned Shanghai's could get smoky too.

Crowds at buffet but I have seen that at other cruise lines and ships too

Disembark was awful, took forever! Once the initial jugs of water were gone, that was it!!

Atrium always had activities, shows going on so you could barely hear guest services staff at the desk

It's not the kids themselves. Kids will be kids. I have an 18 yr old step daughter and nieces and nephews ranging from 20 to 3.

Running down halls screaming. Farting in elevators. Running into you without apologizing. Stepping on your feet at the buffet. Screaming at their parents at dinner tables.

Kids will be kids. This was like Lord of the Flies though.

Lots to really like! Entertainment great including Howl at the Moon/Dueling Pianos, the Waterfront really nice, Taste and Savor were pretty good for main dining in the evening and occasional lunch, The Mojito Bar in the evening. It is also a very beautiful ship on the interior especially.

The biggest negative for me was that the pool areas were crowded overall (chairs, pool itself). Also lots of drinking. This wasn`t necessarily bad (we drink) but did mean that by afternoon it was super loud in the pool area with lots of super happy people ;););-)
