On the escape I have the free at sea Internet promo for 7 days to Bermuda. Can i take that promo to the java cafe and and get it upgraded to Unlimited for less?

You can definitely upgrade to unlimited. Not sure what they'll do about the cost difference, though.

I know that on the Getaway you can do that, so I am making a guess that it is fleet wide.

You may upgrade your internet promo to unlimited internet for a pro rated fee by visiting the internet cafe and speaking to the internet manager but you cannot upgrade your internet promo for unlimited coffee at the java cafe.. ☺ [emoji477]

you don't even have to go to the internet café now. All you have to do is once on board connect to icafe and it will ask you to choose your package. Your 250 package will give you a credit towards unlimited and the rest gets charged to your onboard account. You can do it right after boarding. Its easy peasy......

Suffice to say, same on the Breakaway, Star and Gem last month & this month ...

Pro Tips - whether your devices are iOS and/or Android-based, do your best to update firmware, security patches and Apps already installed to the latest/current ones first, before boarding the ship - systems update on my Nexus is monthly & over 1GB in size, which will and do take a while to download over satellite on the ship while at sea. Furthermore, disable those background update & limit any cloud backup/storage (i.e. Photos) uploaded, as those will take virtually forever to finish. Keep all the open & running Apps to a minimum, and it will be almost as nice as being at home/work, and feel faster than most US hotel chain's basic/free broadband - which is often throttled to 1GB or less.

P.S. (almost forgot) - a reminder to download the free iConcierge App before cruising, we always started using it once checked in & even before we get around for our turn to do early/priority boarding. It's nowhere near a perfect App, but - most features are free, most importantly, to monitor those OnBoard expenses, i.e. like overpriced Bingo's and credits & refunds from missing ports, etc. The newer (Cruise) Norwegian App is only on the Bliss now, from what I understand - but, it won't "hurt" to install that - tried it last week, but "no can't do" on the Gem is my geek certification.

Cisco/Lucent hardware & hotspots as used on the ships support the less congested 5 Ghz band, switch to that and you will do better on data traffic both directions (vs. the 2.4 Ghz band) ... no, that's not a reference to the music band.

So for me for instance. 7 days to Bermuda is 29.99x7 is $220.... I get 125$ towards thst from my free at sea? Meaning I only owe the difference?

That's amazing!!

220-125 = $95 for 7 days :o

you can get a prepaid cell phone plan with tethering for cheaper!!

Hi folks!

We have the wifi promo (perk) and it was showing on NCL.com and our e-docs. This past week it has not been showing on the online vacation summary.

Anyone else has this happen?

Is this per room for unlimited for per device?

You get an unlimited account. One device at a time can log onto the account. One room/multiple rooms. Just one device at a time. We usually have four phones and two iPads.

Me too! Fingers crossed that it's recorded somewhere on NCL's computers so that I can get my $125 credit towards an unlimited plan once I'm on the ship. :)

Those Latitude Reward program 30 min internet (X 2) are still listed on both of our bookings at almost 6 months out, plus the Onboard Spending Money - probably just their competent I.T.'s not that unusual weekend "bugs" in making revisions & doing systems update.

Besides, those perks should be grandfathered in even if ...

Not to worry since the "Free" WiFi option is still being offered among the promotions. How about those UBP & SDP ?? Take those away & there will be riots, LOL.

I paid 384$ for unlimited on the 14 days.

95$ won't hurt

Correction, sorry to hurt a little more ... don't shoot me, I'm just pretending to be the messenger ;p

You upgrade by paying/agreeing to be charged for the difference, whether DIY on the app's screen or in person at the iCafe w. the manager. Here's the math - for 14 days, I believed the price per day is slightly less, i.e. $30 for unlimited premium x 14 = $420 (assumed that they won't credit any Platinum/Plus discount on the upgrade) less the $125 full credit, your net cost - $295, ouch !

For a 7 days Ultimate/Premium unlimited plan to stream & VPN, it's $35 x 7 = $245, less a $125 credit = $115 the difference to be charged/billed to Onboard Account. For 7 days Unlimited (basic), it's $30 x 7 = $210, leass a $125 credit = $85 is the amount.

For those w. Platinum/Plus minutes, they get no "credit" whatsoever with trading up and on the Gem last week, iCafe manager claimed the new system won't permit merging them together with the FAS 250 minutes - and, must be used on its own.

If one has non-refundable OBC, it's one way of using them ...

Curious if you are required to upgrade for the entire cruise duration or for X amount of days? I have the 250 minute free at sea package and only need access for work 4-5 days (Mon-Thurs) and not the entire 9-days. The extra $150 isn't a huge deal but I'd rather give it back via the casino. :)

You can easily go around this limitation. And VPN limitation too (I will confirm that later, I guess).

With newer Samsung phones, there's an option to "share hotspot"

So, connect to WiFi, turn your phone into a WiFi Share Hotspot, and it will use your phone's internet connection to connect up to 10 devices.

As for VPN, things like OpenVPN on standard port (443, for example) should work just fine. They will most likely block typical VPN ports, like 1723, 500, or 4500. But port 443, which is standard web port, should be open. Once you are on VPN, you should be able to stream YouTube/Netflix/Hulu.

I'm pretty sure it's "sorry, no can't do that" from the iCafe manager & certainly not an DIY option via the browser interface. For a 7 days cruise, you can purchase/upgrade by 10 PM of Day 2, and are "charged" for 6 days, less the credited amount. The option to upgrade is not available from Day 3 onward.

The URL as shown on the browser looked like this ...

As for the giving (getting) it back, you got it reversed - "expense" it first and get the "rebate" back from gaming.

You may want to test your hotspot idea before your cruise. I have a newer Samsung and as with any phone I had before the hot spot option turns your phone into a hotspot for your cell data. I have not seen any phone that could use its wifi signal as a client but then broadcast another signal to act as a shot spot server

Your phone can definitely do that. I've served wifi to people on a commercial flights.

Go to settings, search for Mobile Hotspot and Tethering, tap on actual WiFi hotspot (not the switch next to it) and it will take you to settings page. Enable "WiFi Sharing"

It worked fine on my S8+ and my Note 8

Which carrier are you using. I have the S8+ as well but anytime my phone is in airplane mode the wifi hotspot is greyed out. Can connect to wifi and even posting this in airplane mode but can not turn the hotspot back on
