A Sixth? Posted May 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2018 Looking at the Sillie and her Nov 3 trans Atlantic. Does she stay take the great circle, ei the shortest path or stay on the rhumb line or even a bit south of that?
Rare cruisestitch Posted May 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2018 It all depends on the location of any low pressure systems active at that time, and how strong or weak they are.
sddsddean Posted May 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2018 We did a TA in 2009. Left Southampton Nov 23rd. It was a bit blowy in France (Le Havre & Cherbourg), but Vigo and Funchal was shirt sleeves weather. Arrived FLL Dec 6th and it was 28C/82F. As said, they will see what weather systems are about and try to sail round them. Simon

Last year on the Silhouette TA and with stops from Rome in the Canary’s it was warm to hot the whole wonderful time

Rare Turtles06 Posted May 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2018 Your thread title asks: "warm, cool, cold?" I'm on this TA. Please keep in mind that this is a late fall north Atlantic crossing, going from Southampton to Boston. Unless the Captain is avoiding some storms, we'll be taking a northern route. We did a similar crossing (Southampton to NJ) at the same time of year a couple of years ago on Anthem of the Seas. The most likely answer to your question for the crossing itself is "cool." Probably windy, with high seas on some days. Maybe some nice days. Weather varies of course. Layers!! :D
cluso Posted May 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2018 Looking at the Sillie and her Nov 3 trans Atlantic. Does she stay take the great circle, ei the shortest path or stay on the rhumb line or even a bit south of that? We did this on the Eclipse Oct/Nov 2017--same route. We lucked out--water was smooth the whole way. Used our balcony (port side) a lot. Do take layers if you are out and about on the ship (wind factor). Southampton, Boston, and New York--just needed a light jacket or sweater.
ECCruise Posted May 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 16, 2018 Having done 4 northern westbound crossings, I would say prepare for cool but don't eliminate the chance of cold. Or warm. 3 out of the 4 had weather diversions. On our Eclipse crossing in 2014 we were diverted to Madeira because of a nasty storm, then sailed straight to Manhattan, where the temperature for our 2 day stay averaged in the mid-20s, with wind chills in the single digits. Because of our diversion, Bermuda was cancelled and we went straight to Nassau. Obviously the last 3 days were warm and great and the Madeira stop was cool, but the rest was very chilly and then cold.
wrk2cruise Posted May 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 16, 2018 We did this on the Eclipse in 2014. They day we were in New York the temp was in the upper 20's. Ice on the deck as we sailed into the harbor. It didn't get much above freezing all day.

Does she stay take the great circle, ei the shortest path or stay on the rhumb line or even a bit south of that? You are from Quebec and are asking this question????:D I live there too and have no qualms about taking this cruise. Weather is a crap shoot. Met some people that were on this same one in 2016 and had warm weather the whole way. They had 60 degrees in New York.
