OceanBlueWaters Posted June 1, 2018 #551 Share Posted June 1, 2018 After lunch, we continued on our journey towards the wild side... If you've never been to the East side of Cozumel, you have to give a try some day. After about 25 minutes or so, we arrived at a place that is a bit rustic, but also holds a special place in my heart. Mazcalitos. The first place you come to at the end of the transversal road. Alrighty then, the pictures aren't uploading again, and ruining my chi, or zen, or whatever makes you feel happy and good... Sent from my Space Phone 9169... You're fired! Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #552 Share Posted June 1, 2018 I just spent the better part of an hour and most of my battery life trying to upload one picture... I'm just not feeling it anymore tonight. I'm going to have a few more drinks and call it a night. I hate, hate, hate, technology, and how it angers me when it doesn't work correctly (or at all in this case) I will try again in the morning... Sent from my Space Phone 9169... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #553 Share Posted June 1, 2018 It looks like the technical problems have magically worked themselves out... I wish I wasn't so drunk and tired right now, but I'm going to try to knock out a segment to try and get back what is left of my sanity... We arrived at Mezcalitos, which is a special place to me. Not because of their small, but deadly margaritas, but one year ago exactly (well I was there on June 1st last year, so one day difference) I was there in memory of, and on what would have been the 50th birthday of, the one true love that can never ever be replaced, ever... ***Note: I failed English class, possibly more than once, but I know that was what you would call a "run on sentence" ... See, I did it again, now where was I? The one true love. She was, I guess you would say the Ying to my Yang... Whereas I cringe at the thought of germs, she embraced them, without fear. She was happy go lucky, and I nearly threw my phone in the ocean a few hours ago because I couldn't upload a picture. She was fun, and the life of the party, while I'm a wallflower.... Anyhoo, you're starting to get my drift. Last June 1st, I was on a cruise to Cozumel on the Norwegian Escape, where I drank some margaritas and pondered on my life, and how life is just not fair sometimes. How I wish it would have been me instead of her to go too soon. On the day of her funeral, I ran into a few friends that I hadn't seen in a while. They said I should join them for the Spartan race next week. ***Note: If you ever decide to run the Spartan race you should do a lot more training than just saying "sure, I'll run the Spartan race with you..." Anyway, I made a t-shirt for the race in her honor, and on what would have been her 50th birthday, I went to, and had them hang that t-shirt on the ceiling closest to the beach, because that's where she would like to be... So, in conclusion, I went there today just to make sure it was still there, as well as have a margarita (or two) in her memory... A picture from 1 year ago... And today... A bit worse for the wear, but still hanging... Sent from my Space Phone 9169...
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #554 Share Posted June 1, 2018 So, I had a couple of their margaritas, which are small by comparison to the Cozumel standard, but nearly lethal in strength. I thought about life and whatnot, and nothing at all for a bit. I still wish it would have been me. I remembered some of the good times back in the day... I watched the waves roll in, crashing on the beach. Sent from my Space Phone 9169...

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #556 Share Posted June 1, 2018 The capsule on my necklace is a little bit of her, that goes wherever I go. Shidah Posted June 1, 2018 #557 Share Posted June 1, 2018 So sorry for your loss, and what a great way to memorialize someone. Loving the review, and really love the T-shirt. Thanks for taking us all on this journey with you.
CRUISERMOMX3 Posted June 1, 2018 #558 Share Posted June 1, 2018 So very sorry for your loss but love your celebration of her life. My mom passed away on Mother’s Day just 2 short weeks ago and her service is this Saturday. I will honor her and her adventurous cruising spirit by taking her with me in October to the Bahamas. Just the two of us as I let a small part of her become one with the waters she loved. Thank you for sharing this intimate part of yourself with us. Raise a tequila in honor and keep on travelin. vince5251 Posted June 1, 2018 #559 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Hey bud, quit being so hard on yourself. It's not what she would have wanted from what you've described. I lost my brother to brain cancer a little over 8 years ago. All-around best guy in the world. I took a long time to get things settled in my head as to why him and not me. Sometimes it still doesn't make sense, but I KNOW that he would not want me beating myself up for it. I'm pretty sure that my brother "brought" me the woman that I'm now married to (long suffering story on many fronts here), and if she was everything that you say she would want you to get on with your life, enjoy life, and re-find a "ying". Now carry-on soldier.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #566 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Back to yesterday in Cozumel while I have a good connection. I paid my bill in pesos, as well as buying the cup from which my margarita was dranken. We headed South on the only road on the wild side towards our next watering hole. Speaking of water, we stopped by the blow holes on the way. Next stop, Miami bar AKA 25 hour bar AKA the coconut cabana. Basically a shack on the side of the road, but THE best drinks in Cozumel, made with the freshest ingredients. Sent from my Space Phone 9169... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #567 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Now, when I say fresh, I mean they cut the fruit and squeeze it straight into your glass right there in front of you. Sent from my Space Phone 9169...
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #568 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Their margarita is made with fresh squeezed lime, tequila (Don Julio anejo in this case) some Controy (not available in the USA) and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. One word. Refreshing. While I was standing at the bar, a gentleman walked up (I say gentleman, but I mean huge, bad a$$ biker looking dude) He asked if they had fireball. They did. The dude sticks a straw in the shot glass and proceeds to snort a shot of fireball up his nose. Fireball. In his nose. I was sufficiently impressed, and congratulated him on his remarkable feat of bravery (I meant stupidity, but I can only say that now that I'm 500 miles away in the middle of the ocean) Sent from my Space Phone 9169... 1
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #569 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Next, we continued around the island back up towards San Miguel. Crescencio dropped me off near the ferry pier, and I headed out on foot. Sufficiently buzzed from my adventure on the East side, I decided that those huge margaritas in town were probably not the greatest idea. I walked up and down the back streets of Cozumel, just wandering mostly. Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore . Sent from my Space Phone 9169... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #572 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Not that I really needed to eat again, but I've always wanted to try the Lobster Shack for one of their famous lobster sandwich. Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #574 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Now, we're right back at the point where the pictures wouldn't load, and I considered chucking my phone in the ocean... Kind of like a Quentin Tarantino movie, where it goes forward, then back, then way back, then forward again... I decided to just start drinking again... ***Note: I was too upset to recall or record the ingredients to any of these drinks. I only know that they all contained tequila... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #575 Share Posted June 1, 2018 Afterwards, I wandered from Alchemy over to bonsai sushi for a bite...
