Carnival needs to make this right

Just stop thinking of it as gambling and think of it as entertainment. If I go to a football game, I'll come home four hours later with $300 less money. If I play $10 blackjack for four hours I might come home with $300 less money, but maybe not. It's just another form of entertainment.

My wife says the same thing but it's something I just can't wrap my head around. Therefore she does all the gambling in our family.

As long as she's smart about it. Basic strategy alone lowers the house edge to under 2% in blackjack. Last week on Glory I sat down to their horrid 6:5 blackjack with $200. I played 10 a hand for an hour and a half, was up as much as $100, down as much as $100, and walked away with... the $200 I started with. In the same 90 minutes, the guy to the left of me easily burned through $2000-$3000 making horrible bets (lucky ladies) and even worse play (like hitting hard 15 with a dealer 6).

We look at it as entertainment too. No different than say going to the movies. You don’t really “get” anything by doing so as in a tangible item but it occupies your time for awhile and you have the potential to hit it big, lose it, or break even. I put that money aside instead of buying souvenirs and crap I play the slots. But I don’t play with money I can’t afford to lose, either. The 10% off gift cards helps as well. I get a “free” $10 for every $90 I spend of my own that way.

I’m glad we did on the last night of our Glory cruise in April. 6 of is got together and put $21 each in and played max bets on a slot. We came out ahead, cashed out, and tried another one. We went through 4 I think and then ended up hitting a jackpot on a bonus. Let’s just say that practically paid for my cruise and it was a fantastic way to end an otherwise depressing time. It was wonderful to be able to share it with my family and my new friends. You can’t win if you don’t play :).

All she plays is slots. To moderate the risk (for me) we go together to gamble. She has a preset amount of money to spend and in the old days I took all the winnings that came out of the machine (now I keep count as to how many spins she has left since the winnings don't come out of the machine anymore). Actually, since the "Click, clink clink" of coins (winnings) dropping out is gone, she has less of a desire to gamble which is fine by me.

The worst move you can make playing slots is putting money in one ;)

convenient malfunction!

How often does your dollar spit back out, AFTER losing, for the very same reason? The odds of happening only with the win.

Maybe the roulette table could try this. After placing $100 on green, and hitting: "Dealer malfunction", in a robot voice. "Nope, and that $100 bet is ours too."

The tin foil hat crowd is out in force on this thread.

How so, by believing these machines are rigged to "malfunction?" If I were in the biz, you'd better believe I be looking to have the advantage any way I can.

International waters....gambling.....electronic "skill" machine....yeah, it's going to "malfunction."

I care because it was AWFUL to witness...this poor guy went from high on life to feeling cheated and super low. How can anyone not understand why I care? Ruined his day and the rest of his cruise. And oh, I already sent an email as did at least 20 other people that were standing there when it happened. I will be doing a full trip report on the Valor starting tonite. And I will just say, this isn’t the only thing that turned me off about the line.

I wonder if that machine has ever paid out, or is it intentionally set to read ' Malfunction' if anyone ever wins...?:rolleyes:

I had a machine on land error out on me , I’ll admit it was disappointing once I realized I didn’t win it big and it drew a crowd because the machine was ringing and flashing lights and showing a win while flashing error , it took me only a few seconds to figure out I won nothing, i didn’t blame the casino because it clearly states no payout on errors , You win some and you lose some , it’s called gambling.

The burning question I have is when did the alleged malfunction occur? From what I have read here he put the puck in the net on a $2,500. bundle. The winner show started with the bell and music, flashing lights, and what ever else tells that there is a winner.

Then the machine indicated a malfunction. I would think the machine would know if there was a problem with the game before the winner show started. In that case the machine would not display the winner show, and display the malfunction message.

What happens if the malfunction occurs after the win has legitimately been registered, but the payoff has not been made? In that case I think the house owes the money.

I know many amusement machines have tilt sensors to prevent cheating, and protect the machine from being moved. If the machine was inadvertently bumped in the excitement such a huge win would produce, I think the casino owes the money.

Hope an independent expert is allowed to examine the machine and security videos and make a decision fair to both parties.

I am assuming that this machine was not one of the ones that physically push the cash off the shelf when it goes through. I was on a cruise last year playing a slot right next to one of these machines and watched a man get the $2500 cash! Two days later the same man did it again!! They are able to and DO leave these machines on even when the casino is closed like the cranes.
