What are your thoughts re: rebooking while onboard?

Do they offer good discounts to rebook while onboard? I will be cruising at the end of June, but have found a good deal that I'm afraid I may lose, if I wait to book while onboard. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!!

No real incentive to book onboard. Whatever they are offering (which isn't much these days), you can get up to 2 weeks after sailing by calling Carnival and booking from home.

It's also not worth the valuable vacation time waiting to talk to the crew member or using the dreadfully slow ship internet.

Yes, go ahead and book your cruise. No incentives on-board anymore that you cannot book on your own. When I spoke to the person manning the desk on my last two cruises, they both thought the desk would be eliminated soon.

While agreeing with others here on no real financial incentive t book while on board, it there is a ship or itinerary or cabin type that is popular and you aren't cruising soon, it may be advantageous to book while on a cruise to ensure you get what you want.

 

We did this on the Vista for the Horizon, once we realized the attractiveness and popularity of the Havana Cabins and saw an itinerary we'd enjoy.

 

Not saying we could not have done the same from home, but we walked off the Vista with a "peace of mind" that next cruise was what we wanted.

If you find a good deal that works for you—don’t wait. We never book onboard anymore, they give you up to two weeks for a discount, so we much prefer to do it at home. No pressure that way.

It use to be different. You could get some "deals' while booking on-board. Not anymore. I think you are better off going home, doing some research, and finding the best deal available. AS others have said, "...IF you can find a great deal, then book it"... I just don;t think you will find one

On the Vista last week, they said there is no more Future Vacation Planner on board. You can use the 20% discount for up to two weeks after each cruise, and I love this system. It allows us to come home, chat, and most of all get vacation time approved at work before booking Early Saver Future Cruiser (the name of the rate).

Was on an 8-day Ecstasy cruise earlier this month. The offer onboard was later applied to my VIFP account so I could get the same deal at home if I wanted to. No discount that I can recall, but I could get I think $50 in OBC and reduced deposit.

 

The future cruise desk was empty except for the last sea day when a member of the shore excursion team was there. Unless this was a last-minute change specific to this cruise (maybe the future cruise specialist for the Ecstasy was sick and they couldn't get a replacement), it seems that the future cruise specialist is gone or will be gone from other ships.

 

I guess since pricing has become so competitive, there isn't much more they can give people in incentives to book another cruise while on a cruise so why spend the money to have a dedicated person there to book them?

You make a good point.... after your cruise, you will receive an e-mail from Carnival enticing you to immediately book another cruise. It will have some type of incentive with the offer

Everyone gets the 20% Early Saver, you don't have to cruise to get that. It's really the normal rate.

We're cruising the Dream in August. Purchased a different cruise on board the Sunshine back in December 2016. Purchasing on board allowed us the flexibility to change to another sailing of our choosing (which we did, to a different ship and date) and we got a $100 on board credit.

After the last round of changes it's a waste of time - just do it on land when you get back IF what you want to book even qualifies under it's narrow rules for it's tiny benefit

Thanks everyone! Just what I needed to know! When I cruised Disney, it was always best to rebook onboard! Doesn't seem like Carnival has any incentive at all to do so.

It doesn’t anymore. Now you are locked into Early Saver Rates so either book the cruise you want from the start or pay the penalty. Also the OBC is now only $50 except for Suites I think which is $100. It’s been revamped and I’m not a fan at all.
