Just off the Summit - ask away

I sail on Summit in Aqua Class in 3 weeks. How is the service at Blu? Good maitre d' and wait staff? Did you ever make any special requests, and if so, how did they go?

Service was great. Ask for Emanuel. The two hostesses were excellent and remembered our names by the 3rd night. The entire dining room staff chipped in to help each other filling glasses or clearing tables.

It was our first time in Aqua class and we went into it thinking we'd do some nights in Blu and some in the main dining room. After the first night, we ditched the plan to visit the main dining room.

Thanks so much for posting! We are sailing out on Summit next week (June 17); it will be our first time, although we have been on Celebrity before.

I don't have any particular questions just now, but I'll follow-up to a couple of things already mentioned:

1) Would getting in really early at Bayonne help to avoid the customs backup?

2) You mentioned the "Rooftop Terrace Movies"--are these the movies shown during the paid food pairings, or are these free movies available to all?

Thanks again; we are getting very excited about our trip!

I'm new to X but is it true the casinos are smokefree? Are all indoor venues smokefree?

Yes, on Celebrity ships smoking is prohibited anywhere indoors, inside your cabin or on your balcony. There are a couple of designated smoking areas outdoors which vary from ship to ship.

One of the main reasons we sail Celebrity!

Wonderful news!!!

Ok so we are seasoned cruisers mostly on ncl but a few on CCL and 1 on princess

We do not dress like slobs but the days of bringing suits and dress clothes are over especially on a Carib cruise. We also try not to check luggage

So typically...

I will normally dine in the mdr in black capris and resort casual nice flowy tops and nice sandals. I certainly am not opposed to rolling up my black silk slacks and thin fabric sequined top if X actually does enforce a dress up night

DH will wear khaki slacks and polo shirt or long sleeve checked llbean type shirt (which could be worn with a ties if needed) on normal nights but would he need to bring dress slacks and a jacket? Or can he just substitute the dress slacks for the khakis and put a tie on a checked shirt for a dressier night?

Or is a dressy night optional in the mdr and can we just go resort casual in the mdr on that night?

My 20 something dds will wear sundresses..long or short..and will look great so no issues there for all 7 nights anyway. They aren't bringing prom gowns that's a given. Lol

We aren't keen on eating dinner in the buffet ever. Lol

Thanks all for your help.

The casino was smoke free. Pretty sure the only smoking allowed was in 2 areas up on the main pool decks and on one side of the Deck 4 promenade.

The check in slowness was due to security, not customs.

Rooftop Terrace movies are free and weather dependent.

What you describe above will be the norm. You'll be fine. On "elegant" night, you'll see some nice dresses, suits and tuxes, but not many. On one of the elegant nights I wore slacks with a button up shirt and jacket - no tie. I added a tie on the second elegant night.

The roof top movies are free except the food and wine pairing. We also will be on the June 15th cruise. we get to Bayonne about 10Am and never had a problem at that time. The busiest I think is about 11-noon. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi, can you tell me a little about the food and wine paring? Can this be reserved before getting on board, and if so, is it located in the website cruise planner? Thanks to much

No, this is reserved on-board.

I have never seen it available for pre-purchase or reservation.

Questions - feel free to ask.

Loved Bermuda, in spite of not great weather.

Loved the Summit. Needs a face lift, but still a nice ship with a great crew.

Bayonne Customs Service - horrible. No other way to put it. They had 3 agents checking in over 2000 people. Typical US government operation.

Hi Adonisr

Were you on a drinks package ? Or did you notice the price on the ship for upgrading from classic to Premium - it used to be $10+18%tip per day($11.80) but recently Celebrity have increased to $14+18%($16.52) per day when upgrading online before sailing.

I know sometimes the fleet are behind the website and haven’t heard from anyone currently on a ship or recently disembarking what prices are being charged on the ship

Plenty of threads on cc but not seen confirmation of upgrade prices on the ships from anyone on an actual cruise since the announcement

Thanks

We did not do a drink package, so I didn't even look at pricing. Sorry.

I see in your signature that you've sailed on the Equinox which is a larger ship than the Summit. We have sailed on both the Eclipse and the Equinox. We had considered a Summit cruise based on an itinerary we liked but were concerned that the boat would feel much smaller. Can you comment on if you noticed that? Being smaller did you feel like there was more "rocking"? Overall between the 2 ships could you give your opinion on pros and cons? TIA :)

Tia, I hope I can put your mind at ease. We had an aft-facing cabin twice on the Summit (our favorite - #7206) and were under some heavy wind and waves leaving Bayonne. I couldn't believe how smoothly the ship sailed! It really was one of the smoothest-riding ships we've ever sailed. I would not hesitate to book this class of ship in the worst weather. I really notice how a ship "rides" and it was light years better than anything we've ever had on Princess, for example.
