Sea days

My hubby was convinced that he would be bored being stuck on a ship. My daughter had cruised with her high school choir & convinced him to go. He was pleasantly surprised. That was in 2003 on Jubilee, a much smaller ship. Magic has plenty to do, which others have already mentioned. I enjoy the ropes course, mini golf & some of the trivia. Last cruise, we spent a lot of time in a clamshell on serenity deck just talking, reading & napping. Red Frog Pub has some games - scrabble, tabletop shuffleboard. There is always live music somewhere on the ship. Shows & comedians are in the evening. Seaday brunch, tea time. There are also comfy chairs outside near Red Frog Pub - nice to sit out there & watch the ocean, have a drink, whatever. There is usually some sort of dance class in the lounge - Thriller and some country line dance were the ones I went to. No amount of classes has improved my dancing, that's for sure. It was fun having a good laugh at myself, though. Even though he may not want to get in the water, there are activities by the main pool - hairy chest (I find it a bit gross, but others seem to like it), mixology, ice carving.

In October my Husband and I will be on Magic for a 7 day Western Caribbean.

The husband is foreseeing being very bored on sea days.

He works in swimming pools and will not get in public pools. To many horror stories of what happens in pools. Yes the chemicals kill it....no he does not care how "clean" it is.

He is outside all day sun bathing will not be fun for him.

He is not a big gambler.

I am not sure what there is to do on a cruise ship. I heard there are shows. But I assume they are all at night. I don't want him to be bored. I can take a book and hang out in the sun and be fine as long as I get a drink once and a while.

My husband dreaded going on a cruise! He thought the same "he would be bored." He is now glad he went. He doesn't gamble or lay by pool or go in pool. He loves investigating the ship, listening to music playing, talking to people. Just loves the relaxing! If you have excursions planned during the port days, the sea days will be a welcome break! Husband also does not drink and he will be platinum in January when we sail on the magic for 2 weeks! Whatever he chooses to do have fun! Also just an FYI guys pig and anchor BBQ is open on sea days, it is also open the day you get on board ship, without lines! Enjoy your trip!

I am looking forward to Guys. I love his shows. On Friday we pay for our Cheers. only 74 days to go. I will give myself until Sept 1 to start stressing about what to pack.

Did you say Ice sculptures!!! I want to see that! Are sea days when they do Formal night?

You said you liked to play video games, so the sports bar may be an option. Some of the ships have xbox sports games available for use in the sports bar. There is no charge to use them. I was last on the Victory and my son and I killed some time on a sea playing Madden.

We found Guy's burgers good for a ship, but definitely on the greasy side (not necessarily a bad thing;p but I like to be informed:)) I really liked the fries - they have a seasoning that many like, but if it is too heavy you can request no seasoning (might have to wait a few minutes).

Formal nights can vary, but often the second night and next to last night. I've never heard of it being embarkation day since luggage might arrive late, and I've also never heard of it being the last night since many set their luggage out the night before and are dealing with packing.

I am cruising solo and worried a bit about the sea days for my 12/1 Hawaii cruise, but I booked with Carnival because it is supposed to be the fun cruise line. I am relying on them to have a variety of fun things to do. Not that they have to keep me entertained all of the time, the cruise is what I make it and I am also there to relax and do nothing when I want.

Sea days are some of my family's favorite cruise days. Don't miss the sea day brunches. I missed out on them on my first cruise because no one had told me. They have a lot of bingo games and giveaway presentations (I have won some cool stuff including excursions) on sea days. I have been on several cruises and have never spent any time in a cruise ship pool. Go to the art auction and drink the free champagne, play the penny slots at the casino. You can charge your slots play to your sail and sign card and who knows, you may win- I won $1200 a couple of times in the casino and once saw some one hit a $5000 progressive jackpot on a 50 cent bet. Play cards, trivia, board games (available in the library), people watch, if the ship has a cloud 9 spa, get a spa pass. There is always something to do. Go to the movies or shows at night. Comedy shows are usually pretty good but get there early because they always run out of seats. On my last cruise, I wound up going to tea time in the main dining room on a sea day. This was was fun to take my girls to and enjoy the tea and fancy tarts.

My husband is not a social guy and I thought that he wouldn't like cruises much but he loves trying all of the different foods and enjoys some of the shows. His favorite thing is getting the cloud 9 spa pass and spending a lot of time relaxing in the thalassotherapy and sauna rooms. If you ship has a Cloud 9 spa, the spa passes are offered at a discounted rate if you go on the spa tour on the first day.

If you haven't done so already you may want to look at the Solo Cruising board here on Cruise Critic as well as the Hawaii forum. Sometimes there will be a thread on those boards that is Carnival specific that may be helpful to you.

Just as on land if you are an extrovert and a joiner you'll find activities and people to amuse you. Have fun! Aloha

We bring our various sets of dominoes (never had a problem adding players), and the Serenity deck is a great place to start. Read the daily Funtimes, there’s great music venues, chocolate extravaganza day, etc. if he can’t find himself contentment on a Sea dat then he’s not trying. Go have a good time!!!

My hubby doesn’t get bored, as he will go to casino, but he has to stay completely out of the sun. Even though he is now bald, he was a fair redhead, and burns easily. I use a number 100 sunscreen on him. We usually find chairs in the shade. If I don’t, he’s out of there and heading inside. He does not read, but he loves to people watch.

I remember being concerned about keeping myself busy on sea days but it wasn't really an issue. I did spend my share of time on the serenity deck reading and relaxing, but I also enjoyed trivia, bingo, corn hole, watching football in the sports bar, finding quiet places to read, and playing board games. You can play the games they provide on the ship (I think they were kept near the library on my ship) or you can bring some from home. I could see where someone who needs to be physically engaged or who gets bored easily might struggle with a sea day but I was personally surprised by how much I enjoyed the on board activities.
