There may be many who have been successful with them - that is if you believe every CC post you read.   Then, there are a lot of posters who report winning most of the time (some claim EVERY) time in the casino; and those who buy jewelry in the Caribbean and have it appraised at much larger value when at home; or those whose shipboard “art” purchases have turned out to be worth multiples of what they paid.

In any case,  I tend not to place too much credence on the veracity of people who think it is cool to boast about cheating.

I have not heard of anyone getting caught with them

I have taken them on 3 cruises.  But only had one drink on one cruise from them. 😄

A friend has done so on more than 10 cruises.  He stopped, as it was doing it more for doing it, and did not drink what he carried on.

And if you are really worried about the X-ray, put them in your pocket, no metal in them. 😄

Color me guilty been there, done that. We use them mainly for drinks in the room. By the way, the larger bags fit nicely in shoes.  Based on our bar bills we certainly don't bring enough for the whole trip. Usually $800 - $1,000.

I’m guessing if they did not work 5% of the time there would be far more posts of their failure, rather than success.im guessing most who get away with it keep their mouths shut so as  to not draw too much attention.

And as far as smuggling marijuana, my wife was a medical marijuana user several years back. Unfortunately it’s not legal in Florida. However filling a diabetic test strip container and packing it with a blood sugar meter will get it through airline security, as I’m sure any other security checkpoint.

Alternatively, apparently, at least if you're traveling on the Celebrity Summit, you can just walk on with really obvious bottles of alcohol and they'll just let you(?!) I say this because I have now done this, twice. The first time was by accident - I checked a suitcase during initial boarding that had a bottle of craft spirits I'd picked up on the way from a local distillery, forgot it was there until I'd checked it, and figured they'd confiscate it, which they absolutely didn't do. Then yesterday, I picked up some more spirits in town, came back to the ship, very explicitly said "this bag contains alcohol, who do I give it to?", and was told to just take it with me. I'm not sure if they've stopped caring that much as a company, or if their employees just don't care enough to bother, or if they just figure (completely correctly in this case) that I have a drink package, so why would I drink my own, not-complimentary booze when the ship is full of their complimentary booze? But whatever the reason, I'm not complaining (less hassle for me!), but I am certainly solidly confused. 😄

Why bother sneaking them aboard to not use 🤨

Because I can. 😄

I have them in my suitcase  for other trips (I have not been at home the last 8 out of 9 weekends), so I just leave them in for the cruises.

The thrill of doing something illicit without getting caught? I've never seen that it's worth it to save $40-50.

I take some higher end Scotch that the cruise line does not have.

Why do you need to use rum runners for your other trips? I'm surprised the cheap rubber they are made of doesn't cause that high priced hootch to taste funny.

If you get the good ones, they are not cheap rubber.

I don't NEED to use them, but they are convenient for carrying a small amount of some potable.  Versus taking a 700 ml - 1L glass bottle. 😄

We don't take anything with us when we're flying because of the weight restrictions. Plenty of places locally to buy something potable. (And our tastes don't run to the expensive stuff so whatever the ship offers is usually fine for us.)

But if on a one week trip, do you want to buy a 1L whisky?  That you will have 1 or 2 drinks from?

Miniatures also work, but not everything is available in them.

I fly all over the world for work.  I am talking about a rum runner with 6 ounces or so of whisky.  I always have room for that. 😄

We've purchased a liter for most of our cruises and we have much more than 1 or 2 drinks from it since it's normally gone after a week. If we are buying ashore for one night (for instance the night before the cruise) I'll buy the smallest bottle they have and what we don't finish the cleaning person can have or dispose of.

Jokes, kids. I Jokes.

LOL -- back to the original topic -- I will admit to engaging in a little smuggling (they were called 'Rum-Runners') back in the day. Sadly, the advent and popularity of drink packages, across the main-stream cruise lines, has taken all the fun out of being a pirate! ☠️

We are talking different issues.  I was responding about my non-cruise trips.  I really don't want to be schlepping around a 1L glass bottle, that has been opened, on multiple airline flights.

On many cruise lines, you cannot buy/bring a bottle for the cabin.  So the only way is to use rum runners to sneak it aboard.

Rum Runners is a name brand of these products.

And they are still around.  Google. 😄

I know that CCL, NCL and Royal sell bottles before the cruise (and yes, they do sell them at a premium but it still saves money).
