TY for your thoughtful review.

Between the time you boarded with an inside room-- Did GS give you any idea on if you'd be offered and upgrade? How long before you got moved?

BTW- since you upgraded to a Suite-- do you get the points for suite class?

TYIA

We stopped at guest services as soon as we boarded and inquired. Not too long after we got a call with the offer (want to say within an hour). It ended up being more than what we wanted to pay, so we declined, so I can’t talk about the points.

To be honest, being new to Celebrity I don’t know how the points even work.

I am Dairy Intolerant and Celebrity have been using symbols for at least 5 years( well at least in the MDR).

I'm new to this (long story) so I would not have noticed. We eat in Blu.  I'll be interested to see if their menus also use the symbols. Thank you !

Thank you for your posts. You mentioned bathroom hooks for toiletry bags; can you say exactly where they are located?

They are on the back of the door and I actually had a picture of it. There are also two similar hooks on the back wall of the shower, but I don’t have a picture of those.

Thanks..I’ll probably use them to hang the robes to make more room in the closet.

The Oceanview cafe is really nice the high ceilings really give it an open feeling. We loved the outdoor seating and was surprised when not too many took advantage of it. Of course the food was really good and as I mentioned earlier there was a nice gluten free selection. They have also put out hand sanitizer dispensers now, but we preferred the sinks. We were going to try other locations for lunch, but just did the oceanview everyday because it fit our needs well.

I also added a pic of the gluten free deserts too. One thing we noticed is Celebrity’s cakes actually had good flavor, which we didn’t see on other lines.

Checked out the rooftop garden and thought it was a pretty nice looking space. There were varied seating options including the big wooden bench. The wooden bench got more comfortable the more we used it and learned to sit in it, but it definitely wasn’t the easiest seat to get out of. I will say I did look for and find some stains on the cushions from the smokestack, but at least to me they weren’t too bad and I didn’t feel that they took anything away from the space. I will add that we tolerate wear and tear on things knowing that these are mass market products that are in use 24/7 for maybe on average 350 days a year in a very harsh environment. It was really cool to see the real plants, and the wall with plants growing out of it. We saw staff keeping the plants trimmed daily. The live plants is a really nice touch compared to the fake plants we have seen on other lines. It surprised me to find that the plants added good vibes when you were walking around and made the spaces seem more natural, can’t really articulate well the feeling I am trying to describe, it was just a nice touch.

We next visited the Sunset bar. This seemed like a nice place to sit and relax and watch the ocean, as long as you weren’t sitting at the bar where your back would be to the ocean. This was a popular spot during our cruise, we sat back there a few times, but not having a beverage package we didn’t order any drinks.

Next up was the Solarium. This was a nice covered area with the spa cafe, a smaller pool, and a nice sized whirlpool. There was a lot of seating in the area and we didn’t see a lot of chair hogs either.

Two things we would like to see in the solarium would be a small bar and possibly a roof that opened when the ship is in warmer climates.

During the day we caught a little of two of the live music acts, The Reckless Charms and Michael Redden.

Initial impresdions were that both were very good. Overall there was a lot of live music around the ship, it seems like a lot more than we have seen on other ships, which is really awesome.

The walking/jogging path was really a great feature, being spread across two levels. We went inside and found the shop area. We also found that Cafe Al Bacio had gluten free snacks. We walked through the casino to see what they had, I have only played slots 3 times in my life, so the casino isn’t a big draw for me.

We checked out Eden and found it looked like a really nice space with lots of areas to relax during the day. We found the outdoor seating area just outside of Eden and noticed that they have speakers out there so you can here the live music from Eden when chilling outside. Of course the mirrored hall with the statue things and spooky music is really cool.

We were a bit bummed by the lack of seating and views on deck 5 with how the lifeboats are stored. We are used to having a promenade deck where you can sit and relax and listen to the ocean while being protected from the rain and sun.

Sail Out!

We started leaving about 15 minutes early and I was on the phone down on deck 5. I very quickly found out how out of shape I was as I ran up the steps to deck 14 to meet my wife out on the Magic Carpet.

Sail out out on the Magic Carpet was really awesome:). It was a really unique experience and made me forget that we didn’t have access to a forward facing view.

Last post for tonight. Tomorrow and beyond will get more interesting because I will start sharing our hits and misses.

Our first meal meal was in Tuscan and the food and service was very good. The food was definitely better than what we have had in the MDRs on Disney and RCCL.

We did get a reminder that cruise ships should use sliding doors on both sets of doors that lead out to deck. It was windy, we didn’t know at the time, and my wife was first out and as I was just walking through the inner double door going out the outer door opened. The wind grabbed the inner door and slammed it shut super hard knocking the plastic off that covered the mechanism that latches the door. Thankfully nobody was walking behind me or it would not have been good and it is a miracle the glass didn’t break. Have seen this before on Disney with their big wooden doors.

After dinner we went and saw Billy Garan a comedian in the main theater. He was funny and it was a good show to get the trip started.

That night we learned the sounds the ship makes as it is sailing, as each ship is unique. The noise we heard was an intermittent light knocking sound. This may be the noise if have read that others have complained about. By the second night it no longer bothered me.

Thanks for this awesome post!  Do you mind telling me if the Oceanview Cafe still serves made to order pasta bar and fresh pizza until late night?  On previous ships, they the cooked pasta and pizza for us until midnight. Has that changed for the Edge?

We really didn’t go to the late night at all because we were still full from supper lol. We did walk in once late in the cruise and see if they had any desserts, but didn’t really look for anything else.

Getting pictures transferred to my iPad so they I can hopefully finish out day 1 today. I am gaining a new appreciation for others that have done reviews like this:)

One thing I do to cut down on the burden of picture loading is to write my review on the PC and upload.   I then go back in and  edit on my iPhone or iPad and enter the pictures without having to transfer.

You just access CruiseCritic using the browser.

Post #42 has some beautiful pictures, including one of some multi-color deck chairs and a mural with a macaw in the background.  Could you please tell me what deck that is?  I have a blue & gold at home; he will be thrilled to see mom standing in front of that!!!

Thanks,

Susan
