Shanghai on the Getaway

Lots of people complain about the smoke there. Personally it wasn't a problem for me (didn't really notice it), but if you are susceptible to cigarette smoke then it is likely to be a problem.

As for the food, as always these things are subjective. Some (like me) really like it, others apparently find it inedible, others are somewhere in between.

I found no smoke and I am quite sensitive to smoke. It may depend on the casino clientele at the moment we ate fairly early. The food was as good as any fairly good Asian restaurant in the US. I have traveled extensively in Asia, and while it was not the same as what you get there,  it was still good.

  • 4 weeks later...

I found there to be no issue of smoke from the casino on any of the ships any time I've eaten here.  I will say that the first  time we came here for a snack we had no idea that you ordered per order, not per piece. So when we thought we were ordering 2 pot stickers, 2 spring rolls, 2.... so on and so forth to taste stuff we were shocked when everything arrived as 2 orders with sometimes 3-4 pieces per order. So embarrassing. We felt awful at the amount of food that was left behind. We purposely tried to over eat just so food didn't go to waste.

I noticed that the Shanghai restaurant is near the casino.  Does anyone know if it smells smoky in the restaurant? Also, how is the food? Thanks for any help.

yes, it was very stinky. Hence, we didn't even try to eat there, so I can't tell you how the food was. Every time we walked through the area, I held my breath.

Just a heads up. We were on the Getaway a couple weeks ago. Reservations are now required at Shanghai’s.

Is it book on the ship only? It is not appearing as reservations available on the website.

It appears that there is a change towards needing reservations for the Asian restaurants, but they are only available onboard.

I had a similar issue on the POA last summer. I went to the Asian restaurant one evening and found it was booked until late. I made a reservation for another night using the App.

Im not sure what ships it applies to but I will be checking whether reservations are available soon after boarding on future cruises.
