Has anyone mentioned HOW you get credit/ points in the Casino, if you Don't have your Cruise card? :classic_unsure:

How could they phase it out?

medallian certainly doesn't have anything to do with casino points..... You NEED a Players card (cruise card) for casino.

:classic_huh:

The Medallion functions as a cruise card in the Casino.

How do you track your shipmate? My mother in law won't have a smartphone and we worry she might get lost. No dementia but she has only been on one cruise and doesn't speak English well. We are on Royal Princess Mexican Riviera on 4/13. Supposed to be first sailing on that ship with Medallion.

Basically the person to be tracked has to agree to be tracked by giving you his/her tracking ID which you then set up under your account to do the tracking. On board you will be given details about how to do this. (It is also possible that someone who has already done this may post the exact procedure here on Cruise Critic.)

When you then want to locate that person (or more accurately that person's Medallion), you can do that on your smart phone or at one of the many public monitors around the ship using your Medallion.

The person being tracked does not have to have a smart phone or any device other than the Medallion itself.

IF this feature is working on your sailing, you can use your smartphone to find her with the Ocean Compass app. If you don't have a smartphone, either, there are interactive screens by the elevators that you could use to find someone. The medallion does not need any phone connection to work.

CalLuvsCruisingToo,

You do not need a Players Card (cruise card) for the casino.  What they did was take your cruise card and entered your passenger number into the computer to show you were at the table or on a slot machine.  Now they will use your medallion to do the same thing.  Nothing has change and you will still get credit.

I have heard that if you ride past your cabin on an elevator, the Medallion will open your door, if you are close enough.

Hope they have fixed that.

And where did you hear that?

Negative Ghost Rider.

They have not fixed it because it is not true.

Don't sweat the Medallian.  Its very easy to get it at Checkin to get on the ship.

Then visit one of the attendants (I think theyre called Navigators) onboard, who can easily

set up things for you.  This is what we did, and kinda happy we didn't try to do it ourselves. lol

As long as she has her medallion with her, just go to the ships diagram by the elevators and you hold up your medallion to the ship diagram and

click on locate your shipmates.  I used this to locate my husband in the ship.  No smartphone necessary.

So is there any reason to set up the Medallion ahead of time?  We have done the guest checkin and really do not want to enter the same information in another app.  Can we just print a boarding pass and check in at the counter the old way and get a medallion and then later let a "navigator" set up a phone if we decide to?

Thanks.

Maybe Princess at Sea would be the only thing we would want to use from a phone....

Certainly there is no NEED to set it up ahead of time. The same end result can be achieved by letting Princess staff take care of the entire process for you when you arrive at the port.

In our case, we find it a fun part of the overall experience to do it ourselves.

I'm kind of bummed that they're doing away with the cards. We like them and have kept them from all of our trips.

Well now you can keep your Medallion - it's much prettier than a cruise card!

Really, the Medallions are quite cool. I never carry a purse around the ship and I wasn't going to wear a card around my neck. The Medallion on a lanyard is much less obnoxious looking, or even better on a wrist band, bracelet, clip or necklace. No more worrying about it falling out of my pocket, or losing my purse in port, or making DH carry my card in his pocket. No more digging it out of my wallet to get on or off the ship. I love that my door clicks open for me as I walk up - like a princess -haha! Yes, some of the ships are still working out minor bugs with it, but when it is fully functional, it actually makes things much easier and you never need to connect it to your phone in order to use it just like you used a cruise card in the past.
